Work Text:

Link had been hit by the shadow. This wasn’t supposed to happen. It was small, just a little nick in the arm, but he could feel a good portion of his magic rush out of his body.

That wasn’t very good. Link glanced around to make sure nobody saw. He was in luck, everyone else was preoccupied. Link blocked the next hit with his shield and rolled away. He wasn’t good enough to attempt to counter its attacks.

When the battle was over, Link glanced around to check for wounds. Besides a painful looking slash on Wind’s leg and Four, who was sporting a sprained ankle, everything looked all right. He walked over to the two and sat them down, healing them and wincing at how quickly his magic was draining.

Immediately when they got to camp, Link climbed a tree so he could see what he could do with his arm.

It was already swelling and inflamed. Link placed a hand over it and sighed at the inevitable. Even if he did have magic left to use, it wouldn’t have healed anyway.

Link debated climbing down and telling someone, but decided against it. He would just worry them for no reason, it was just a small cut, so the curse would fade faster, and by the time it was gone, his magic would be back.

So instead, he sat and waited.

And waited.

Link wrapped his arms around his body. It was getting cold. Why was it so cold? He rested his head back against the trunk. He wished it would warm up. The only warm thing on him was the red hot pulsing in his arm.

Ignoring the cold and the hot and just listening to the happy chatter from below him, Link managed to fall asleep.

Notes:

The title phrasing came from a nickname for my friend, who is short. Not as short as me, but she got the nickname before the group met me. We call her Chilly, so when she goes outside, we can say “Ooh, it’s a little Chilly outside!” That’s literally the only thing I got from that, but it’s silly goofy, so I wanted to share.
I’m much too lazy to write a fight scene, sorry ‘bout that.
Thanks for reading! Comments and kudos are appreciated, and in fact help my considerable lack of motivation to do anything tremendously.
