Nanjo could hear the noise of the sewing machine as soon as she entered the hallway. Exactly as she expected.
And the noise only stopped when she knocked on the door.
She also expected the shocked expression on the lovely face of the current tenant of the place when she saw that it was her old boss who was on the other side opening the door.
She had always enjoyed the feeling of being proven right, but this time it tasted even more special.
“Nanjo-san! You are here.” Mayu said.
"Yes I am, may I enter?"
"Sure."
She enters and looks at her old room, Mayu’s new room.
“I was surprised that you chose this place, the girl who appeared in my studio a year ago had no taste for the poetic.”
“I think that's one of the many ways I've changed since that time. I give you partial credit for this change.”
“Only partial?”
“Yes, don’t be greedy.”
"Alright."
“Nanjo-san I just want to say thank you again for the machines and for everything really, meeting you was something that changed my life in ways I never would have predicted and-”
“Stop right there, we already had this conversation. Maybe I should have taught you not to be boring.”
Mayu laughed.
"Right"
“I should have also taught you how to create an environment. You should have done a little more decoration, even for a simpler product this place is terribly empty.”
“All the money I make goes back into the product”.
“Yes, but you shouldn’t forget how your customers feel when they enter the room. I would really appreciate it if there was a sofa or at least some roses.”
“Well, you’re not really a customer.”
“I could be if one day you do something beautiful.”
"Challenge accepted."
“Aren’t you going to ask me why I’m here?”
“I was hoping it was because you miss me, kind of silly now that I said it out loud.”
“Yes, very silly. But it's also true in this case.”
Mayu smiled, her eyes shining.
“I miss you too, I miss everyone. But it’s different from you, it’s special.”
“Even with nothing to gain you are still such a flatterer.”
“You love it when I flatter you, I can see it on your face.”
“Maybe a little. Would you allow me to take you away from your work for a coffee?”
"Yes. I would really, really like that."
“Good, then let’s go. And the next time I come here you better have decorated the place a little.”
“So there will be a next time?” Mayu said completely incapable of hiding the hope in her voice.
Nanjo smiled.
“Yes, I think there will.”
