Work Text:
Kenta has done it. He had killed Tony with his very own hands, with the very same knife Tony had given him as a present - as a reward for his loyalty and hard work. Kenta couldn't deny and say he had never imagined it - killing Tony.
Although, he had always felt guilty of even thinking about it afterwards. Because when he was only five and his own parents had abandoned him, Tony was the one who gave him a new life by adopting him. He gave Kenta good food to eat, and a roof to sleep under. In Tony's mansion, or under Tony's command, Kenta was respected, seen as someone superior rather than an orphan who wasn't even wanted by his own parents.
Tony made Kenta believe he was wanted, needed and Kenta never understood that it was for all the wrong reasons. Or maybe he did, but he was too scared to be left alone so he held on even when it hurt him so much.
But now as he sits on the floor across Tony's dead and bleeding body, Kenta can hardly feel anything. He is numb. He has killed the man whom he had kept above himself his entire life. Kenta has finally done what he had been dreaming of all these years.
Pete has called the police already, and when Kenta doesn't even realise when they break in, it is Kim who walks up to him.
"Get up." Kenta doesn't even acknowledge him. He doesn't even hear it honestly. He is crying, looking down at the blood stream flowing from his father's body. A little more, and it would reach Kenta, stain him.
Kenta does, however, feels two strong hands hoisting him up and then Kim makes him sit somewhere, on a chair and there are people talking to him.
Kenta cannot hear them. He can't even breathe and then someone's throwing a cloth, a jacket over his head and there are arms around him, holding him tight and telling him to breathe.
It is too grounding, and it is almost scary the way the voice guides him back but then, Kenta is grateful to breathe again. He also recognises the voice now, it is that same red haired stupid racer who doesn't know when to stop talking.
When Kenta can breath again, Kim backs away and the comfort which the racer's jacket provide is also taken away from him.
"Mr.Kenta?" Kenta looks up, confused and sees the police officer looking at him with concern. "Are you alright? Do you need medical assistant?"
"No, I am fine." Kenta replies. He hears Kim scoff, muttering a bullshit. Kenta would have glared at the man if not for the situation they are in.
The police then tells Kenta the crimes he has committed, the murder and all those he had done under Tony's command. When the officer is done, the whole bunch of guys behind him start speaking, all at once, and nobody makes sense.
Kenta hears someone say that he is innocent, and then someone else says they know he has committed horrible crimes but not at his own will and the third voice is asking if he can be forgiven.
Kenta doesn't even know why they are trying to defend him honestly. Wouldn't it be easy and better to just hand him over to the police and get done with Tony for all and once?
So, Kenta says nothing, he is ready to accept whatever is coming from him.
And then there's this stupid racer again. "It was self defence, sir." Kenta looks up this time, at the way Kim's face is hard and his eyes are spitting fire. "Had he not done that, not only Tony would have killed everyone except Babe and Pete, but he would have done unimaginable things to the two after fleeing with them."
Someone, probably Jeff, North and Sonic are the ones to explain the 'unimaginable things' to the police officer. Like, how Tony would have bred Babe and Pete and sold their children, doing all of what he did once again.
"Alright. The case can be dismissed as self defence but Mr.Kenta will still need to appear in the court for the final judgement. You all need to come to the police station to give your statements too."
They all are taken to the police station. Kenta doesn't know why the moment Kim is done giving his statement, he is back by Kenta's side. The others don't come to him at all. It is only Kim.
The questioning is done sooner than expected. Kenta answers them all, he tells them the additional stuff he had been hearing, he tells them about all those crimes which no longer have any evidence left.
And when the officer asks him if he was also abused anytime, Kenta shakes his head without a blink.
"He is lying." Kim says from behind, "I clearly saw Tony beating him that day." It is embarrassing and more when Kim removes his blazer and shirt despite Kenta protesting. He really needs to talk to this boy and ask what is his problem with Kenta?
Kenta hears multiple gasps from behind the moment his shirt is stripped down. He knows it is nothing pleasant to look at. There are belt marks all over his back, dark blue and purple bruises from the kicks he had been given when failed and there's also a stab mark from years ago.
"Okay, this definitely strengthens your case, Mr.Kenta." The officer turns to look at everyone else, "With all the evidence, it can be proven easily the murder was in self defence. You will all need to give your statement in the court too."
Everyone agrees. Kenta finally gets to glare at him when he snatches his black shirt from the racer's hand. Kim doesn't look fazed at all. Instead he picks up Kenta's blazer and hands it to him to wear.
"Why are you doing this?" Kenta needs to know.
"Because nobody else will." Is all Kim says.
They are then allowed to leave the police station. Although Pete did have to use some of his influence to handle the whole matter. Kenta is not oblivious enough to not know. But nobody mentions it, so he doesn't say anything either.
As they all stand outside the station, everyone looks tired and exhausted, wanting nothing else but to go home and rest. Everyone, except Kenta.
"Where are you going, P'Kenta?" Charlie is the one to ask. Ofcourse, there's this sunshine pouring out of the young boy and Kenta really has to avert his eyes to not get attacked by it.
He instead looks startled at the question, "Ugh - away?"
They are all aware he has nowhere to go. His bank accounts have been freezed until the matter is settled completely and Kenta has nothing right now. He is broke, and he has no roof under his head anymore.
It should have scared him, but instead all Kenta feels is the absence of burden from his chest. He is free, he can breathe and he doesn't have a father he can't afford to disappoint anymore.
"You will need to be here for the court hearing, Kenta." Alan clarifies. They can't afford him to run away.
"Yeah, I know. I will be there on time," Kenta says. He licks his dry and chapped lips and stares at them all, "You all don't have to get into this mess. I can take all the blame. I did kill Pa - Tony, after all."
It all makes perfect sense in Kenta's head. They all had no reason to defend him in the court. Kenta feels uncomfortable with the way they gaze at him with those eyes filled with concern.
"Why would you do that?" Kim asks, "You saved Charlie and everyone else. If anything, they should be thankful to you."
"It wouldn't have came to this had I killed Tony before. I had chances, several." There's something in Kim's eyes that shifts the moment Kenta's words register in his mind. Kim looks like he has found an answer to a certain question in that one moment.
Like he knows now why Kenta did what he did. Like he had been trying to figure out Kenta and has finally done it.
"But Kim is still right." Charlie interferes, making Kenta look at him. "You did help us, phi. We wouldn't have done it if not for you, and that fact remains."
"And even though you were late, you did chose the right thing at the end." Pete says, and then he turns to look at Way who nods, "If Way can get another chance, then why not you, Kenta?"
"Guys, we should talk about this somewhere else. Can we leave for now?" North interruptes them. Beside him, Sonic is leaning on his shoulder and he looks almost close to passing out. "Sonic needs to rest. We all do actually."
Everyone agrees and then suddenly the focus shifts to Kenta once again. They all want to know where he is going to stay and he doesn't know if it is because they don't trust him enough to let him go, or they are just curious or even worried.
"You are frustrating by the way," Kim says when Kenta doesn't speak even after a minute, "Do you even have a place to sleep for today?"
The roadside? Kenta just nods.
"Where? The roadside?" Oh fuck. Kenta looks at Kim with wide eyes. "I am not a special Alpha or something. So, no I didn't read your mind. I just figured it out." The racer clears.
"You can stay at my place." Alan offers. He doesn't know Kenta much but the man has been kind enough to help them so that's the least Alan can do. "Jeff, North and Sonic are staying with me and I have a spare room you can use."
Kenta wonders how many rooms does Alan have in his home.
"Or You can stay with me and Charlie?" Babe offers too, "Although my place is nothing like Alan's and you will need to adjust on the couch."
"I am staying with you?" Charlie questions, eyes widening in surprise and lips breaking into his signature smile. The younger Alpha looks happy at the prospect of living with Babe.
"Charlie. Do you think I would let you go after the stunt you pulled?" Babe wraps his arm around Charlie's shoulder and drags the Alpha down a little to prove his point. "You are really stuck with me from now on."
Charlie looks happy if anything as he nods.
"Guys, focus." Jeff scolds them and then turns to Kenta, "You can stay at mine and Charlie's apartment. It is rented though, but me and Charlie has it covered for this month. We can figure out what to do from the next."
Before Kenta can deny or accept, Alan shooks his head. "No, I don't think any of us should stay alone." He looks worried, "I know Tony is dead but there are still people out there who did business with him, bought the children Tony sold for selfish reasons and they could be as twisted as Tony. What if someone comes after us? Kenta will be the first target if they do. He was always with Tony."
Everyone nods. It does make sense. Babe might be Tony's target but it was Kenta who was always almost everywhere with Tony. There were deals Kenta had handled alone when Tony asked him to, coming in people's eyes. If anyone suddenly decided to take revenge from Tony, they wouldn't go after Babe, Charlie ir the others, they would go behind Kenta.
In that case, why doesn't Kenta stays with Kim? Kim is also living alone!" North suggests and they all seem to have agree as they look at Kim.
"No, it is fine. I can just go anywhere, really." Kenta tries but nobody looks convinced.
And then Kim shakes his head and comes forward, staring at Kenta all the while, "Alan is right. I don't like living with many people, but I don't mind one. You are also a good fighter, I can use the extra safety."
"But -"
"No buts, it is decided then. Kenta is staying with me."
Kim declares and he doesn't even look at Kenta as he says, "Com'on, let's leave. I am tired."
Kenta, in all can only fumble and follow him, ignoring the looks the other guys give him from behind.
