Trip to the ER

Summary:

The doors swung open and the once quiet hospital was overflowing with doctors and nurses yelling at each other. Katsuki grew close to the commotion ready to take the next patient. Except the person sitting on the hospital bed was someone Katsuki knew. Shoto fucking Todoroki. One of Izukus co-workers, his best fucken friend. If he was here then…

“They weren't supposed to bring him here.” Shoto cried before Katsuki got a chance to hound him for questions. “But this was the closest hospital.”

Work Text:

Katsuki looked down at the papers in hand. They told him absolute crap. A ten-year-old came into the ER complaining of a tummy ache. At first, Katsuki assumed it was due to a bad diet. The child must have eaten too much or spoiled something.

But when Katsuki tried to question his patient, the parent would interject and answer for the boy instead. It was so fuckin’ annoying when parents did that. Parents were the biggest pain in the industry, always injecting and assuming the doctors had no idea how to do their job. Katsuki did not work himself to pieces just for a parent to lecture him on how to do his job.

When Katsuki brought up the idea of the child eating something he wasn't supposed to, the mother argued she wasn't a moron who couldn't care for her child. She ultimately refused to have her child sent for x-rays. Demanding only for bloodwork to be done.

So Katsuki did exactly that. According to the chart, the kid should be in perfect health, everything came back clean.

“Hey, bud,” Katsuki called out to the child once the Mother stepped out of the door. “By any chance did you happen to eat something you weren't supposed to?”

Katsuki squatted down to be in the boy's eyesight. “You won't get in trouble, but if you don't tell me the truth I won't be able to help you. Can't help if I don't know what the problem is.”

The kid looked down at his fingers, intertwining them with “Someone made me eat something.”

Katsuki frowned. Someone made him? “Do you want to explain how?”

“I won't get into trouble with you?”

“I won't get mad. In fact. I'll be really proud!” Katsuki smiled. He saw as the boy excitedly told him the story.

“I presented as a sub and Ken told me we couldn't be friends anymore since I'm a sub. Then he told me to eat the block thing and I couldn't stop it. I tried. I promise. I tried but I didn't know how.”

“Did you tell your mom about this?” Katsuki questioned. Did the damn mother already know about this little incident? She seemed too preoccupied with her little phone call to even care about the child's well-being.

“No. But I deserve it. I should have been better.”

Katsuki shook his head. “Want to know a secret?”

The little boy nodded his head enthusiastically. An important person was going to tell him a secret!

“I'm a sub too,” Katsuki whispered into the little boy's ear. “And I'm pretty amazing! I help people all the time, both Sub and Dom. We can do anything a Dom can do.”

“You are? We can?”

“Absolutely we can even do more. We're so much better than Doms, want to know why?” Katsuki asked

The little boy looked at Katsuki with stars in his eyes. He could believe what Katsuki was telling him.

“Because Doms may have their silly little commands, but were the ones who give ourselves to them. Without us, they would be nothing. We’re the ones who are choosing them, not the other way around. Want to know another secret?”

The child smiled over at Katsuki. “Yeah!”

Katsuki looked around the room to make sure no one was there. Katsuki knew it was only him and the child but it was for the effect. “My Dom is a super cool Detective. He's the best!”

“NO WAY!” The kid shrieked, going to cover his mouth when he noticed how loud he was.

“Yes, way. He has been chasing after me since we were brats. Don't let Doms think they're better than you. They should be chasing you, not the other way around. Understand kid.”

“Yes! I'm the best and they suck!”

“Atta boy!”

Katsuki had time to order a scan and call in the gendered specialist by the time the mother ended her phone call. The specialist was the one he was supposed to hand the case over to since this required expertise in dynamics. The boy was to explain to the specialist what happened as well as medication they could take in order to prevent orders from working (with the parent's consent of course)

His shift continued without any more hiccups.

“You know it's pretty quiet today,” Kirishima commented looking over his own patient charts.

Katsuki as well as a few other co-worked looked over to Kirishima. The red-headed didn't seem to notice all the doctors and nurses looking at him with deathly stares. Not until he finished reading his patient's chart, he looked up. “What?” he questioned

“Are you fuckin kidding me,” Katsuki cursed steam practically coming out of his ears. It had been really quiet that day and Katsuki wanted it to stay like that. The only code they had called that night was pink. But it was a false alarm. The newborn turned out to be with the dad. For a Saturday night that's heavenly. You rarely get those days during the week but during the weekend??? That's a shitty miracle.

“What?” Kirishima asked again acting as if he just didn't doom the entire hospital

“Dude. Did you not hear what you just said?” Sero asked, laughing almost in despair

Kirishima thought back to his sentence and when he finally realized his eyes widened “Shit.”

Then, almost as one comedic joke, the phone rang, Chiyo answered it with a quick “Alright.” then promptly hung up. “We have incoming! Everyone get ready, this place is about to be hell in 5 minutes!”

“This is all your fucken fault!” Katsuki cried over at Kirishima, he was just about to go on his lunch break too. Now his fucken food was going to get cold. He was told to make sure he ate everything on his plate now he couldn't.

The staff quickly work to prepare beds as well as gurneys. A few of the nurses moved outside ready and waiting for the ambulance to arrive to haul in the patients.

Katsuki took to helping nurses set up an emergency area, as well as clear out the patients who were not needing a room.

They needed to work fast because when that clock hit that one-minute mark boom.

Katsukis heart dropped as he looked over to Todoroki

“I'm sorry.”

Katsuki didn't stay to listen to his apology; he rushed through the pack of people. He could already feel himself panicking. The walls around him grew tighter as he struggled to find the person he was looking for.

“Kacchan.” A voice called from behind. Katsuki turned around to see Izuku on a stretcher.

One rule when it comes to the hospital is that an attending should not treat themselves or a family member. Izuku was everything to Katsuki. Anytime Izuku got hurt and it was something small he could go to Katsuki. But if it was something big Izuku could make sure to go to a different hospital.

“Dr. Bakugou, we need you to…..”

Katsuki couldn't hear what the paramedics were saying. He was too busy looking at the gash on Izuku's stomach. It was so fucken red, the shirt was soaking up the blood. The lightblue unifrom Izuku-

“Kacchan.”

-walked out of the house in that morning and was now painted a deep crimson red. And that was just one of the other injuries. Katsukie's eyes traveled down to Izuku's thighs. The pants were burned though, the smell of burning flesh lingered in the hall. God-

“Kacchan.”

- the pants were practically burned into Izuku skin

Look at me.”

Katsuksi's eyes looked up to see Izukus. Unwillingly pulling his gaze from Izuku's injuries.

“There's my good boy. Listen” Izuku commanded clearing all the thoughts in Katsukis's head making him Zero in on Izuku and only Izuku

“We need a doctor who's capable of helping. We don't have time to-”

Izuku glared over at the paramedics “ Finish that sentence and so help me. He's my sub. He can do this. I know he can”

Breath”

Katsuki followed the command, ignoring the insults of the paramedics, listening to no one but Izuku's voice. He inhaled deeply then exhaled slowly until he got the remainder of the fog to clear from his head.

Settle.”

Katsuki nodded his head, closing his eyes. He took a moment to compose himself before opening his eyes and getting back into business.

“What's his status?” Katsuki demanded leading the over to the beds. Katsuki could vaguely hear Izuku say “That's my boy” as he yelled out to the nurses.

—-------

When Izuku came to, he was in a hospital bed, the steady beeping letting him know he was hooked up to some wires.

He sat up slowly, taking in his surroundings; he looked over to his left to see Kacchan leaning his head on his thigh with his hand placed on his head. Izuku couldn't help but feel his heart tighten at the sight. Katsuki wasn't supposed to see him that way.

Izuku didn't want Katsuki to see him that way. He knew how much it takes out of the blonde. But Izuku was so proud of him. He loved seeing Katsuki in action. He ran his hands through the blonde's fingers admiring the softness in his expression.

Izuku could never get enough of everything. The soft caressing of Katsukis hair woke the boy up. “Morning”

Katsuki was quick to climb on top of Izuku, being careful to avoid his injured leg. “You scared the crap out of me”

“I know I'm sorry baby. You weren't supposed to see that.” Izuku tried to apologize.

“No. I don't want anyone else to see you like that. Only me. I'm the only one who can ensure they treat you right.”

IZuku shook his head “We can talk about this later. When can I leave.” Izuku asked. He hated hospitals, well he hated being a patient at them. Such a pain.

“You uh- you were hurt pretty bad, you needed stitches, in your abdomen, and they wrapped your leg. You were unconscious for 4 hours.” Katsuki told leaving out the usual doctor voice he used to inform patients. He chose to lay his head on Izuku's chest as he relayed the information.

“Thank you Dr. Midoriya.” Izuku smiled, interlocking their hands.

“Not a Midoriya yet,”

“Soon you will.”
