Crosshair’s Hands
They were shaking, badly so. No matter how hard he tried to keep them calm. Fidgeting with them, trying to let them hang loose, bunching them into fists, his fingers sore from the process. But that did not help. None of his actions helped the tremors running rampart in his body, ending up in his hands.
The stuttering fingers clearly visible for the Kid. He needed to hide them, hide the emotional turmoil he was oh so very deep in currently.
Deep breaths… deep… breaths…
And what the kark was she on about? Trust?
Too much trust was never a good thing. Not in Crosshair’s opinion anyway. And she, the kid, the child she totally still was, trusted way too many people. Taking them at face value, never questioning their actions in any way? Clearly, all that ‘trusting’ having ended her up here! In this hellhole of a pit they were both in now.
Well, at least she was free to roam about. On some level it seemed.
“Go. Away.” He hissed the words, wanting to be left alone with his misery.
“No Crosshair. I am leaving this place and I want you to come with me.”
She was adamant, that much the surly sniper gave her. But there was no hope of an escape. The one time he had tried, having failed horribly. And clearly, Crosshair’s message had not reached the Batch either as why else was the Kid here? And what had happened to them then? They never listened did they! Not to Crosshair anyway. Hunter never did… or perhaps he did. At some point Hunter and Crosshair had been inseparable, having the other’s back… then, things had changed…
Still no matter the lies, deceptions and being on the opposite side, this time, they really should have heeded Crosshair’s warning. Should have stayed away!
The shaking was getting so much worse, he could feel it all through his body.
The emotional turmoil Crosshair was in right now raging like the winter storms on Kamino. Crosshair having been in this state for a while now and the Kid showing up, demanding his attention… his body’s cooperation was becoming too much to control. The emotional turmoil showing on the outside.
Didn’t she understand? There was no escape!!!
“You need to go. Now. Before the guards come back.”
Omega simply sat there, on the cold floor. Unmoving. Behind the bars which held Crosshair in, staring right at him. Right into his… soul? Oh for fucks sake!
His hands! They were shaking something awful.
“Please, Omega, just, leave. For your own sake, leave me alone before things get worse for the both of us.” The voice was gravely, coarser than usual, having lost all power in persuasion.
“But… but we can make it Crosshair. Together. I think Emerie could help us…”
“Trust no one Omega. That is my final advice to you.”
She was just one little girl after all, a mere child of a thing. What could she do to help him? Help them? Nothing. Absolutely nothing!
The fears of the future flooding Crosshair’s mind once again. And this time, the shakes becoming too visible to hide from the Girl. Her eyes impossibly wide as she stared at him. The shadow of his former self, a proud soldier he had once been. Now, having reduced to a cowardly nexu shrivelled into a heap of fear. The one sensation he was familiar with these days. The fear. Keeping him company when no one else would.
“Now! Please, go. For both our sakes, Omega.” He tried again. To warn her, to stay away. To leave.
The repeated plead falling onto death ears though, Omega having made her mind up.
“I won’t leave you Crosshair, not this time.”
There was nothing further Crosshair could do to deter Omega. To change her mind. And so, they sat there, for a long spell. Together. Just the two of them.
