Work Text:

Dean is lounging on the bed after their most recent hunt. He is growing more and more tired of motel beds with every passing day. He can hear the springs in the mattress with every slight movement. And hardly any of the motels they stay in have magic fingers anymore. Devastating.

He turns his head over to Sam who is messing with his computer in his own bed. Dean sighs, “Wanna go get something to eat?” He asks, sitting up and stretching his arms a bit.

Sam doesn’t look up from his computer and it takes him a few seconds to answer. “No,” He says bluntly.

“What?” Dean makes a face, “Dude, seriously?”

“Yeah, seriously.”

“What are you gonna eat?”

Sam shrugs, “We still have sandwiches… and I don’t wanna go out right now. I’m tired.”

“And cranky,” Dean adds. Sam finally glances at Dean just to give him a dirty look. Dean smirks to himself but it quickly fades. “So I’m just supposed to go eat by myself then,” He gets up and starts looking for his shoes.

“Bring Cas,” Sam suggests.

“Cas doesn’t eat,” Dean scoffs.

“Yeah, but he’ll go with you! He likes hanging out with you.”

Dean’s eyes light up, “He does?” He asks, “Did he tell you that?”

“No.”

“Then how do you know?” Dean starts putting on his jacket now.

“Because I have eyes,” Sam laughs.

“Well… he’s in the shower.”

“Obviously wait until he’s out of the shower, and then go.”

“What if he takes forever in the shower?” Dean bites his lip and glances at the bathroom door. “I’m starving.”

“He doesn’t take long showers like you do,” Sam teases. “But if you’re so hungry then go by yourself.”

“I don’t take that long a showers,” Dean rolls his eyes. He walks over to the bathroom door and knocks, “Hey, Cas?”

“Yes, Dean?” Cas replies. It may be muffled by the flowing water, but his deep voice still cuts through.

“Wanna grab some food with me when you’re done?”

“Yes, Dean.”

Dean squints at the door but really he’s squinting for Cas. What a weirdo. “Okay, cool.” Dean smiles to himself then sits on his bed to wait.

“Happy now?” Sam asks.

“Yeah, kinda,” Dean shrugs, “Beats going alone.” Sam closes his laptop and turns to face Dean fully. It weirds him out. “What?”

“I don’t know,” Sam shrugs with a cheeky smile. Then he pauses and it’s quiet. “If Cas was a woman, would you bang him?”

Dean scoffs to himself and looks away. He shrugs, “Well yeah, of course.” Sam’s eyes go wide. “What?” Dean asks again, this time more offended.

“Really, you would?”

“What kinda question is that anyway?” Dean asks while making a face. Sam just chuckles. “Wouldn’t you?” He asks like the obvious answer is the one he gave.

“No, dude,” Sam laughs.

“Why not? Cas is hot,” Dean says, trying to defend himself.

“He’s hot?!” Sam’s mouth falls open.

“Y – yeah…” Dean says softly like he’s not sure he wants to say it.

They stare at each other silently. Sam’s mouth is still hanging open but he’s sort of smiling. Dean is sitting there blushing and tense. “Dude, that’s gay.”

“How’s that gay?” Dean says quickly right after Sam finishes his sentence. “Lots of guys are hot, not just Cas!”

Sam, mouth still open, does not know what to say. His eyebrows come together in a way that makes Dean feel even more uncomfortable than before. “I don’t think lots of guys are hot, Dean.”

“Yes you do, c’mon,” Dean rolls his eyes, “You’re telling me that if a really attractive looking guy came up to talk to you, you wouldn’t feel anything?”

“What?!” Sam laughs.

“Stop laughing,” Dean crosses his arms over his chest. “You’re lying.”

“Dean,” Sam says as seriously as possible. “I don’t think men are hot, and I definitely don’t ‘feel anything’ around them,” He uses finger quotes. Then he smiles, “That’s just you.” Dean stares at him silently. “‘Cause you’re gay.”

Dean rolls his eyes and looks away, “I’m not gay, Sammy,” He huffs. “You asked me if I would have sex with Cas if he was a chick. If! If he was a chick. How is that gay?” He asks metaphorically like he’s making a point.

“The gay part came after,” Sam tells him, laughing and getting back to his position of leaning on the headboard. He opens his computer again.

“Whatever,” Dean grunts. “I don’t know why you won’t admit that guys can be hot. Why’d you even ask me that in the first place?”

“I don’t think guys are hot,” Sam chuckles. “I asked because I saw the way you were looking at the bathroom door. Thinking about Cas apparently,” He clasps his hands together and looks dreamily off into the distance, “So hot and naked in the shower, oh Cas!” He raises his tone of voice to sound like a princess. All to make fun of Dean.

“Shut up,” Dean swallows.

“Did you call me?” Cas asks Sam as he steps out of the bathroom. Dean stands straight up very quickly for no reason. Cas tilts his head at him.

“No,” Sam waves him off, “That was Dean.”

“Oh,” Cas smiles, “I assume you’re ready to go then?”

“Did you shave your face?” Dean asks.

“Um…” Cas glances at Sam then back to Dean, “I trimmed it. I don’t like shaving cleanly, I am not skilled at it.”

“Looks good,” Dean bites his bottom lip for a moment, staring at Cas. Then he shakes his head and turns around, “Let’s leave.”

Dean drives them to the nearest diner that has more than one car parked outside. It’s never smart to eat at a place that none of the locals like. Dean learned that the hard way.

When they walk in, they are seated at a booth by the host. And then their waiter comes by for their drink orders. Dean would get an iced tea but he doesn’t wanna stay up tonight. So he gets water instead. Cas does the same.

Dean doesn’t really know what to say to Cas, and Cas hasn’t tried starting any conversations either. This is not a problem he usually has with Cas. Sam is just in his head.

“Do you like hanging out with me?” Dean asks.

“Yes, of course,” Cas answers without having to think at all, “I thoroughly appreciate your company.”

Dean nods.

He looks around the room. They’re aren’t many people in the restaurant. Mostly guys. But Dean doesn’t feel particularly attracted to any of them. Which is good. Come to think of it, Dean hasn’t met many hot guys lately. Not that he’s looking for them, but he used to meet them all the time anyway! Now the only hot guy he knows is Cas.

“So, um,” Dean shrugs, “What are you gonna get?”

“Um,” Cas tilts his head, “Nothing,” He answers, “I don’t eat.”

“Yeah, sorry,” Dean shakes his head.

“What are you going to get?”

“Probably a burger. Usually a safe bet.”

“And pie?” Cas asks with a smile.

Dean chuckles, “Yeah probably. After.”

“Of course,” Cas nods.

The waiter comes by and gets their food order. Cas doesn’t order anything, he never does. For some reason Dean always expects him to. Like he’s going to change his mind about eating. He’s not a person, he’s an angel. They’re different.

“Are you alright?” Cas asks him, “You seem ill.”

Dean is staring at the host right now. Just a dude. No attraction at all. But of course, he’s not hot. “All good,” Dean nods.

“Okay,” Cas nods back.

“Um,” Dean swallows, “Would you… would you bang Sam if he were a chick?”

“Of course not.”

“Oh,” Dean looks away. That was a quick answer.

Their food comes out pretty quickly. Well Dean’s food. And it’s pretty good. Dean can’t really remember by the time he’s done eating exactly how good because he’s distracted. His mind is definitely somewhere else. And he thinks Cas is catching on.

Suddenly their waiter brings Dean a slice of blueberry pie. He doesn’t remember ordering it, but it was the one he was planning on getting so he must have.

“Is blueberry your favorite pie?” Cas asks him, “You seem to order that one the most.”

“You’re gonna make me choose a favorite?” Dean asks with a mouthful of pie.

“I suppose not,” Cas smiles.

Dean smiles back at him, “Do you wanna try a bite?”

“I don’t eat,” Cas says again as he chuckles.

“Well you don’t, but that doesn’t mean you can’t, right?” He gets a bite onto his fork and turns it around to Cas, “You might like it. Just try it.”

“Alright,” Cas takes his fork and tries it. He makes a face, “It tastes like m –”

“Molecules,” Dean answers for him. Everything Cas tries he says tastes like molecules.

“Yes.”

“Bummer,” Dean gets his fork back and takes another bite. He sighs.

“Are you upset that I don’t like the pie?” Cas asks softly. Dean finished his pie and hasn’t said anything to him in a while.

“What? No, I don’t care. You don’t eat.”

“Well,” Cas tilts his head, “What’s wrong?”

“I already told you,” Dean pushes his hair back flat on his head. It messes it up a little bit. “Nothing. I’m alright.”

Cas nods and takes a second. He wants to believe Dean. “Well is there anything you want to talk about?”

Dean can’t look away from Cas. He knows he’s been staring at him this whole time. Watching him eat that one bite of pie was almost too much for him. Which is so stupid. It’s just food. Though, he kinda wanted Cas to just take the bite from Dean like he was feeding it to him. Why did Dean want that? It probably would have been good though. And they coulda made eye contact the whole time. That woulda been kinda sexy actually. Then he coulda watched his mouth open slowly around the food. And his lips purse out at the fork. And slide slowly off. Mm.

Dean bites his bottom lip again, contemplating words. “Um,” He leans back in the booth a bit. “I think I might be gay.”

Cas nods slowly, “That means… you…” He tilts his head, “What does that mean?”

“It means you like men.”

“But you like women.”

Dean glances away. His eyebrows come together. How could he have forgotten about that? He should have brought it up in his argument with Sam. “Yeah, you’re right.”

“So you’re not gay.”

“That makes sense,” Dean nods.

“Unless…” Cas looks away, “Unless you do like men. Then maybe.”

“Yeah maybe,” Dean shrugs, trying to stay relaxed and normal.

“Is there a way you could know for sure?”

“I don’t know… I’ve only ever dated women.” It’s quiet for a moment then Dean chuckles.

“What?” Cas asks, half smiling.

“Nothing, I just had a stupid idea and it made me laugh.”

“What is your stupid idea?”

“It’s like… junior high level stupid.”

“I don’t know what that means.”

“Well… y’know…” Dean rolls his eyes, “We could kiss,” He shrugs.

“Do you think that would help?”

“It might,” Dean says, “I don’t know, I’ve never had to figure this out before.”

“Okay, if you think it will help, we can try it.”

“Yeah…” Dean can feel his face get hot. “A kiss isn’t a big deal, right?”

“I’m not sure,” Cas says, “I don’t think so.”

“Okay so… one kiss,” Dean holds up one finger, “And if it feels good… then maybe I’m gay.”

“Alright,” Cas nods.

“Okay,” Dean takes a drink of water then stand up. He slide into Cas’s side of the booth and faces him. “Are you sure?”

“Absolutely, yes,” Cas nods.

“Okay,” Dean wets his lips and just stares at Cas’s. Cas sort of smiles. It makes Dean smile too. Then he chuckles so Cas chuckles too. “Okay,” Dean nods and hypes himself up. This is crazy.

Dean gently touches Cas’s cheek with his thumb, rubbing slightly back and forth. He loves when Cas shaves his face. It makes him look all spiffy again.

He starts to lean in ever so slightly. Then Cas leans in too. It makes Dean excited all over. He can mainly feel it in his chest. Which is burning right now. He can feel himself tense up.

Then his lips meet Cas’s. They are surprisingly soft. They definitely never looked this soft. But he’s feeling them! And they’re soft. It feels really nice. He wants to sleep in a bed of just Cas’s lips. That would be the best upgrade, especially coming from those shotty motel beds. Dean can feel his body relax and the kiss gets instantly better.

Even Cas’s little stubble feels nice against his face. Dean can’t get enough of Cas’s stubble, he wants to feel it all the time. Even when it gets a little long, right before Cas trims it. Dean still likes how it looks.

He’s shockingly comfortable right now. He thought he wouldn’t be. He’s kissing someone in public. Not just kissing someone, but kissing a man. And not just any man. He’s kissing Cas. Castiel, angel of the lord and his absolute best friend in the world. And it feels really, really good.

Dean is now processing how long their lips have been touching. Quite a while for something that was supposed to be a ‘no-big-deal’ kiss. Not that Dean is upset.

Cas slowly parts his lips. Dean doesn’t know why he’s doing that. Maybe he thinks it’s just how you kiss. Or maybe he’s doing it for Dean. Maybe he wants Dean to do something about it. He’s not sure. Just to test it out, Dean slowly slips his tongue to Cas’s lips. Then his toes curl when Cas does it right back.

So Cas does want Dean to do something. Dean pushes his tongue into Cas’s mouth and Cas does it right back. Cas’s mouth taste like sugar and blueberries. And this is officially the hottest kiss Dean has ever had. He never wants it to end.

He’s praying this kiss with Cas isn’t his last. He wants to do this all the time. And maybe even more than this. He wants to touch Cas too. And maybe Cas can touch him. And they can hang out like this more! Maybe do other stuff too. Stuff Cas likes to do instead. Dean can already think of a few places Cas may like to go together. Maybe they can even sleep in the same bed. That would probably make motel beds a little better to deal with if he had someone to cuddle up next to every night.

Dean puts his hand on Cas’s thigh but that’s when Cas pulls away. “Well?” He asks, looking deeply into Dean’s eyes the way he’s always doing.

“Well what?” Dean asks, looking back and forth between Cas’s eyes.

“Are you gay?”

Dean bites his lip, “Definately a little gay,” He nods, “Yep.”

“Oh,” Cas nods.

“I um…” Dean swallows, “I think I might also be in love with you.”

“Is there a way you could know for sure?” Cas asks, starring at Dean’s lips again.

“I don’t know… ” It’s quiet for a moment then Dean chuckles.

“What?” Cas asks, half smiling.

“Nothing, I just had an idea and it made me laugh.”

“What is your idea?”

“Well… y’know…” Dean rolls his eyes, “We could date.”

“I –” Cas clears his throat, “I would like that.”

“Okay,” Dean smiles at him.

“And I would like to kiss more as well.”

“Okay,” Dean smiles before he leans in to kiss Cas again.
