IT WAS THE NIFFLER ( a Time-Turner story )

❝don’t you dare turn those golden brown eyes
on me, Flynnders Scamander❞
—— ❛ ARLETTE DIANA FIDELLA SCAMANDER LOVED ANIMALS, just like her older twin brother, Newton Artemis Fido Scamander. They researched everything together, and they were both members of Hufflepuff House in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They aspired to follow careers involved with the protection and discovery of magical creatures, so great was their fondness.
—— ❛ THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR OLDER BROTHER wasn’t the best. Theseus Scamander was popular and responsible, while Newt and Arlie were reserved and outcasted. If not for their blue eyes and semi-similar facial features, nobody would’ve guessed they were related. Theseus aimed to get into the Ministry, when, in fact, that was Newt and Arlie’s worst fear. They were entirely different, and it wasn’t going to change anytime soon.
—— ❛ THEN IN THEIR THIRD YEAR, the siblings were joined by Leta Lestrange of Slytherin, a troublemaker and one of the least liked students of the school. Neither of them had desired to take notice of the opposing House member, not until that day in the tower. From then on, they were an unofficial trio, sticking up for each other, searching for creatures on the Hogwarts grounds and finding facts about themselves: their interests, their abilities, their dreams and their Boggarts, which Leta had not yet cared to share.
—— ❛ LIFE WAS ENJOYABLE, perfect even, but that’s when everything goes wrong, right? Well, this story is no different. Hogwarts only allowed a cat, owl or toad onto their grounds; Arlie had a golden-brown-eyed niffler, Flynnders — Flynn for short; Newt had a green bowtruckle, Pickett; and Leta had the black baby raven that brought them together, the baby raven that was also the symbol of the Lestrange family emblem . . . called Raven. Original. The animals were almost a trio of their own, which fascinated the Scamander twins (they jotted down notes, of course).
—— ❛ ANYWAY, as you can probably imagine, Flynn the Niffler was the most mischievous one of them all. He would never miss a chance at nipping a few galleons in his pouch or let slip an opportunity at raiding the local jewellery store whenever Newt and Arlie went travelling. One too many times, Arlie has had to supervise him, to no avail in keeping him and his nifty paws close to his chest. One too many times (a day), Arlie has had to tickle the collectibles out of him, and attempt to discreetly return them to their rightful owners, which didn’t really work out for her. Flynn could just never get enough, it seemed.
—— ❛ BUT THE NIFFLER MAY HAVE GONE ONE STEP TOO FAR THIS TIME. Rumours were circulating that the Ministry of Magic were furious; a very rare Time-Turner had gone missing. Snatched. Stolen. And I think we all know where that may have ended up . . .

This story is dedicated to some people I know on Quotev. The first is my bro Sparky (a very talented writer so go and check out her works), who is also in love with the niffler and really wants the creature to exist. We also seem to have similar methods and frustrations when writing... and I have a suspicion she’s a version of me, but older. The second is my good friend Julia, who has stuck by me in my other Time-Turner work — Is Anything Better Done Than Said? — and is a really sweet person. Go read her works as well! The third is to all the friends I’ve made on Quotev, who have, each in their own way, inspired me to write and produce ideas. The fourth is to my absolute best friend, Canis, for sticking with me through thick and thin. Finally, it’s to all my readers! The readers who have taken the time to check out my stories, their plots and even go as far as leaving kudos and commenting, so thank you all!

So, it’s finally here! I’ve transferred my story, IT WAS THE NIFFLER, over to AO3 from Quotev, and I’m super excited to share it with you! Thank you to everyone who has decided to check this out; it means the absolute world to me. I hope to not be held up as much on writer’s block as my other stories (but let’s be honest, we probably won’t get anywhere) since I’ve already got J.K Rowling’s base for the Harry Potter series (p.s. we do not stan her), and I have the most supportive friends ever. So, whoever you are, wherever you may be, I hope you enjoy!
