Chapter Text
Minho can still remember the awkward questions and burning stares when he had returned back to school from the time every teenage anticipated.
Some were excited.
Some dreaded it.
And the rest didn’t care as was just an occasion - that was a turning point nonetheless - but still just a birthday like any other.
As the lack of ambiguity with what you were going to present as generally meant people saw it as an occasion to celebrate but not really that interesting as secondary sex was present from birth. And like your primary sex, it did affect societal hierarchies and relationships due to telling characteristics and the manifestation of it but the assimilation of the dynamics into society were seem-less and predictable.
Alpha parents?
Alpha child.
Beta/Omega parents?
Beta or Omega child.
However, like primary sex, there are mutations.
Mutations that manifested unannounced and caused mayhem for one unsuspecting teenager on October 25th 2014.

Pain and the frustrating desire to knot everything in site (and the subsequent embarrassment that followed) was all Minho remembered.
A red, animalistic haze of a representation rut.
Not a pleasant experience for someone prepared with suitable medication and accompaniments. Let alone without.
As Minho’s surprise representation meant his poor mother had to rush out to try and scrounge for supplies whilst his dad - hating every second just as much he was - stood on guard by the door.
Scared. Confused. Frustrated.
Sentiments shared between Minho and his parents as their beta dynamic resulted in the based conclusion and eventuality of Minho’s beta presentation. Which like his parents, should have involved the heightening of senses and sexual maturing with no cycle period.
And yet, Minho’s rut threw that all out the window. And what was the longest three days of Minho’s life ended up with a lot of questions and one particularly stressful night with his parents led to accusations of adultery being wielded like poison-dipped swords.
Accusations that subsided once a trip to the doctors was made. But accusations that still left slight scars and to a lack of bringing up Minho’s ‘issue’ at home by himself to avoid conflict.
However, this was made easier by his quickly-learnt control of his scent and his body language to almost fit into his idyllic beta family. And after his first rut, at home his secondary sex went unsaid as - between his attempts and his lack of stereotypical alpha attributes - no one brought it up and when his sister presented as a beta a year after him the family moved on from presentations and the waiting.
It was only the occasional comment and the accommodation for his fortunately formulaic rut timings - thrice a year - that would suggest Minho’s parents basic acknowledgment.
But, in a weird way he found it better as it was less awkward and to him his dynamic didn’t matter as it didn’t change a lot about how he portrayed himself.
Sure he might have become more protective, possessive and have the normal heightened senses of an alpha but it didn’t really matter as with these acquired traits came a level of maturity and subsequent control gained as he fought the uphill battle that was the testosterone levels on recently presented alpha.
Until it did matter.
