Work Text:
Delilah walks in through large castle-esq doors on an early Sunday morning. The one day of the week the daycare closed also happened to be Valentine’s Day.
So, naturally, the human had plans for her favorite bots.
Fitting to the holiday, the entire ‘plex had been decorated in pinks and reds, hearts plastered on the walls. “It’s like love threw up everywhere,” she giggled to herself, overjoyed to have someone to spend it with. Despite dating already (nearly an entire year now!), Sun had asked Delilah to be his and Moon’s Valentine two weeks ago. He’d been so fidgety, bouncing on his toes as he handed her a heart-shaped card made from red construction paper. Valentine-themed stickers dotted the surface, surrounding a sweet poem written in Moon’s loopy cursive and Sun’s excited scrawls.
Accepting immediately, she had peppered kisses all over the animatronic’s faceplate and rays, Sun squealing in delight.
“Sunny!” she called, “Moonie! I’m here!”
“Sunshine, look at you!” Sun called from above, “You look radiant!” Delilah cast her gaze upward just as Sun dove into the ball pit, Moon brushing the curtain aside. He fondly rolls his eyes as he hooks the cable to his back, a lazy smile on his face as he softly lands next to the (small) human.
“You’re beautiful, shooting star,” Moon mumbles as he scoops Delilah up to nuzzle against her cheek. Delilah giggles as he pulls away, cupping his cheeks. Sun pops up behind her, slotting his head against her neck.
“Oh, look at you, boys,” she coos, “so handsome! Did you get all dolled up just for me?”
“Of course we did, sunshine! Only the best for the brightest star in our galaxy, right, Moonie?”
Moon nods with a hum, closing his eyes as he melts into Delilah’s touch. A baby blue dusts his cheeks, the white freckles standing out beautifully. “We wanted to look nice for you, my star. You deserve the best.”
Delilah beams, giggling again. The boys wore freshly ironed outfits, Sun with a cream button-up, sleeves rolled up to his forearms, paired with brown slacks, cream shoes, and a red bowtie hung loosely around his neck. She noted Sun’s rays decorated in little heart stickers with a giggle.
Moon’s outfit was similar to Sun’s, though in all black and lacking a bowtie. The first few buttons on his shirt opened to reveal his chest. Delilah’s heart fluttered at the sight of them.
“Oh? That so?” she hums, kissing Moon’s nose and Sun’s cheek. “Well, you both did an excellent job at lookin’ the part.”
“Oh, good! I got so worried the new outfits would be a little much, and I tried to get the stickers off my rays, ‘fraid it’d look bad with the formal wear, and–”
“You look perfect, Sunnybunny,” Delilah interrupts. “Absolutely perfect.”
Moon chuckles. “Yeah, Sunnybunny,” he teases. Sun huffs and pouts.
“Excuse me for wanting to look perfect for our favorite human.”
“And you do,” she nods. “Anyway, I’ve got something to show you boys!”
Sun trills excitedly, Moon hums in amusement.
“Lead the way, shooting star.”

Delilah leads the animatronics outside to a semi-secluded garden. A colorful sight; tulips, daisies, peonies, and orchids painting the bushes. She had put forth the effort to lay out a soft blanket decorated in pink flamingos (she couldn’t find the one she’d wanted originally, so she made do). Delilah packed a nice breakfast for them in a cute wicker basket, putting the bot's favorites at the top. Sitting next to the basket sat a thermos filled with tea (a special blend of chamomile, lemon, and lavender), and three little plastic cups. They weren’t fancy, just the kind you’d find in a kids’ play tea set, but they’d do.
“Your dress matches with the flowers nicely,” Moon comments, interrupting her thoughts.
“You think so?” The human giggles, spinning as the hem flutters around her legs. “This was the first dress I grabbed.” Delilah bashfully waved her hand.
That was a lie– she had very carefully picked out this deep crimson strapless dress paired with a light pink jean jacket. She originally wanted to wear heels, but they hurt her feet, so she opted for red Converse. She thought the ensemble paired cutely with her glasses.
“I doubt that,” Moon hums. “You look nice for us all the time.”
Delilah flushes, “and how do you know it’s for you?”
“Who else would it be for, silly?” Sun teases, “You got someone else now?”
Moon gasps offendedly, placing a hand on his chest. “You have someone else? Oh, my star, you wound me.”
Sun mimics Moon, wailing dramatically and unceremoniously flopping next to the basket. “I can’t believe you, flower! We trusted you!”
Delilah giggles, sitting cross-legged next to Sun, Moon plopping down on her other side. “You boys are so silly.”
Sun’s theatrics stop abruptly, beaming up at the human. “Only for you, my dear!” Then, he sits up to rummage through the basket. “Now, let’s see what we’ve got here!”
Moon leans forward, humming disinterestedly as he pulls Delilah closer to his chest, idly running his fingers through her hair.
“Ooh!” Sun trills picking up a small box of goldfish crackers. “Yum!”
Delilah giggles. “And they’re all for you, Sunny.”
“What do I got in there?” Moon asks, gesturing for Sun to hand over the basket. He sifts through the contents one-handed.
“Your things should have been at the top,” Delilah comments, “Unless Sunny’s nosing moved it.”
“I can’t believe you, Sunny,” Moon huffs before plucking a baggie of sliced plums. “Oh, star bite, you didn’t have to go through the trouble–”
“Hush up,” she snips, “I wanted to. Now! Eat!”
Sun wasted little time before tearing into his goldfish, whereas Moon went slow, gently opening the bag and gingerly taking a piece.
Delilah chuckles at the lunar bot’s behavior, grabbing her sandwich and taking a large bite. He nibbled on the plum slice, still keeping one hand against Delilah’s scalp, mussing her carefully made hair. Delilah couldn’t find it in herself to tell Moon to stop, nor did she want him to. She melts further into the touch.
Sun crawls over to lay his head in the human’s lap, rays retracted. He hums happily and nuzzles against her belly, popping another cracker in his mouth.
Delilah sighs happily, taking another bite. Moon hums a lullaby quietly (an absolutely adorable habit), rocking gently. Her smile widens, turning her head to kiss Moon’s cheek.
“I love you both,” she murmurs, leaning over to kiss Sun’s head.
“We love you, too,” the animatronics say in unison. They blink at each other slowly like cats and Delilah giggles. She glances to the side, spotting two perfectly yellow dandelions near the corner of the blanket. Smiling, Delilah gently picks them, placing one in one of Sun’s rays, the other finding home in the hem of Moon’s fluffy nightcap.
Sun, blinking twice before he realizes what happened, squeals in delight, “Thank you, sunshine!” and nearly vibrating in place (damn near fighting for his life to keep his rays still, lest the precious flower his sunshine had generously given him fell).
Moon’s cheeks were dusted a beautiful baby blue, hand raising to gently touch the bright yellow flower. He tugs the hem of his hat down slightly to cover his eyes. Delilah giggles and kisses his cheeks. She could hear the faint whirr of Moon’s cooling fans.
Sun sits bolt upright, still vibrating in pure delight and whispers something to Moon. The blush painting the lunar bot’s cheeks deepens, and he nods.
“One moment, my star. We’ve gotta make something for you,” Moon coos before kissing Delilah’s cheek and crawling over to the bushes. The human watches, amused, leaning back on her hands.
“Alright, boys,” she chuckles, “do whatever. Just don’t let that take all your attention!”
Sun overdramatically salutes and huddles next to Moon. They mutter to each other, shoulders touching to obscure the view of their little project.
Delilah begins to grow antsy, excitedly awaiting the gift the daycare attendants were making.
Finally, finally, they turn around, hands held behind their backs. Moon still flustered, his hat no longer hiding his pretty crimson eyes, Sun giggling and squirming in place as his rays twitch. Delilah cocks an eyebrow, leaning forward.
“What’cha got there, boys?” she hums.
Sun squeals, quickly presenting his gift. A flower crown made of buttercups and white daisies at the center. Delilah gasps.
“For you, my flower!”
“Oh, it’s beautiful–”
Moon holds out his hands, too. “I made one as well.” His was made of buttercups in a similar fashion to Sun’s, though much smaller. “Well, it’s more of a bracelet instead of a crown, but, you know–”
Delilah launches herself forward, kissing Moon’s precious little face, then moving to Sun’s beautiful rays, obnoxiously smooching their noses and cheeks.
“This is the best gift ever!" she squeals, hands flapping. “You guys are the best partners a girl could ask for!”
Moon looks away, smiling bashfully. Sun beams brighter, rivaling his namesake.
“It’s nothing,” Moon mumbles, scooching forward to tie the bracelet around Delilah’s left wrist. “The least we could do.”
Sun nods rapidly as he gingerly places the crown atop her head. “You do so much for us already.”
Delilah laughs wetly, fanning her eyes before she started crying (she did not want to ruin her makeup).
“Come on, boys, don’t get all sappy! You’re gonna make me cry.”
“Aw, but they’re good tears! Right?” Sun tilts his head to the side.
“Well, yes, but my makeup–”
“Is fine,” Moon interrupts. He smiles softly. “It’s fine, my star.”
Delilah returned the gentle smile, reaching up to cup one of each of their cheeks. “You both are the best valentines anyone could ask for, you know that?”
The bots melt into her touch, each placing a large hand over her own. Moon softly kisses her palm.
“No, love, that title belongs to you.”
