Work Text:
“Pick up, Kristal! PICK UP!” Trevor paced around his room, attempting to shake off his anxieties. “This is why I never call her.” he huffed under his breath before she picked up the phone.
“Trevor? Why are you calling me?” Kristal asked, confusion palpable from her voice. “Well, you know how it's valentine's day tomorrow –”
“No. I won’t be your valentine.” She responded immediately. “You didn’t let me finish! I wanted to ask Derek but I don’t have a gift or ideas or anything –”
“You’re 30. I’m pretty sure you can ask your crush out without my help.” Kristal cut him off again, leaving him frustrated. “Well, I bet you won’t have a valentine before me.”
“I already do. I’m hanging up. Maybe call Emily instead?” As his phone turned to the end of the call sign – he shook his head and sat on his couch. What, just because he’s a 30 year old man doesn’t mean he can’t be nervous about asking his crush out, it’s perfectly normal! And besides, he would never listen to the advice of that woman.
As he contemplated on a way to ask out Derek, fidgeting around, he decided that it would be the perfect time to confess. Yeah, he could show Kristal that he had confidence, he was smooth, he could get a date! And especially he could do it without the help of that devil of a woman. So, he walked out the door.
And then he stood out the door for a little too long. Contemplating whether or not to go back in – he couldn’t do it! Nope, terrible idea. But Valentine's day was tomorrow! But he couldn’t- but he could! The thoughts rattling in his head, he puffed out his chest and decided to walk… next door.
Knocking on the door, he continued to be confident. Totally confident. 100%. So confident he forgot to put on a change of clothes out of his pajamas.
“Trevor, what are you doing?” Derek opened the door with a surprised look and asked him, looking at Trevor standing, posing himself with his arm on a tall potted plant, other hand on his hip, with a slightly painful smirk that he had kept in place for at least 5 minutes. “I was… waiting for you.”
“Trevor, you quite literally could’ve knocked and I could’ve let you in.” Why didn’t he think of that earlier? It was too late now, but he took Derek’s orders and went inside his house.
“So, why did you want to come in?” Derek questioned, sitting down casually on the couch as Trevor did the same, still having a grin on his face. “Well, I- uh, I’m asking you if you wanted to be my valentine.”
“Well, no shit.” Derek laughed, hanging his arm off the couch. “Wait, what?” Trevor raised an eyebrow and immediately changed his expression from a fake grin to confusion.
“Trevor, we’ve been dating for 4 years. Obviously.” Trevor’s eyes widened as he looked back on all their interactions. “Okay, well that makes more sense.” Trevor said, facepalming himself with embarrassment.
“Wait, you didn’t know we were dating? Huh, I guess that’s why you always introduced me as your best friend.” Derek said.
“So, you still up for Valentine’s day?” Trevor scratched his head. “Yeah.” Derek responded, smiling at him.
