Work Text:
“You spared me, so you can spare one more person.”
Kim Dokja looked behind him and saw that Yoo Joonghyuk’s body was trembling. Somehow, his consciousness was struggling to wake.
Jophiel spoke, casting a wary glance at Joonghyuk. [If he wakes up, there is no guarantee that I can stop him.] Red swirled around her; she prepared to summon her fog again. [We have to kill him now.]
Dokja wanted to sigh. He couldn’t let Joonghyuk die, whether or not the latter was his companion in this regression. Without another thought, his eyes swept across Joonghyuk’s face.
Despite being knocked out, bloodied and suffering from regression depression, Joonghyuk was still face-slappingly beautiful. His eyelashes were long and delicate, tickling the top of his cheeks. Unlike Dokja’s Joonghyuk in the 3rd regression, the 1863rd Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t have faint freckles, probably because he spent considerably less time outside with other people. Soft, smooth lips were tinted pink-
It reminded Dokja of his plan, and he spoke to the archangels.
“What if I can stop him from waking up without killing him?”
Jophiel’s red fog froze and started to fade. Gabriel looked puzzled.
“How are you going to do that?”
Dokja smiled plainly. He wondered if they would tell Uriel about this. She would certainly mourn not being present when she heard.
“Just watch.”
Have faith.
He kneeled next to Joonghyuk. Would he still be the same in this way, he wondered?
{‘In every regression?’}
{‘…In every regression.’}
That bastard better have been telling the truth.
It was easy to pull Joonghyuk into his lap, easier than Dokja had thought. The 1863rd regression of his companion was pliable and obedient in his arms. Dokja let his mouth tug upwards.
He stared at Joonghyuk for a moment.
So different in this regression. Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint didn’t work on him, but they still looked exactly the same. Dokja felt something in his heart ache; he would wait, work hard here until he could return to his regression.
Kim Dokja leant down and pressed his lips to Yoo Joonghyuk’s.
A pause.
Then Dokja felt Joonghyuk’s lips quiver the slightest bit.
He raised his head again, watching as Joonghyuk’s face stiffened in his sleep. Still so adorable.
“It’s okay,” he whispered, half-giddy on the high of kissing Joonghyuk. “I’m here. It’s safe."
“You’re not alone anymore."
“Do you remember now?” He smiled yet again. Only Joonghyuk made him smile this way.
“I will take care of you now.”
And under the astonished gaze of the archangels Gabriel and Jophiel, Yoo Joonghyuk shuddered and sighed back into sleep in Kim Dokja’s lap.
