A Valentines cold

Summary:

Erestor comes down with a cold (no thanks to the twins) on Valentines day, but to his luck, Glorfindel is with him.

Notes:

So, I feel very single today and instead of sitting in my room and crocheting with my two cats like an old person, I opted to write a short story about my favourite couple (whoever says that their not absolutely adorable, go into a corner and stay there).
Enjoy!

Work Text:

It was a sunny day and even surprisingly warm, considering it was in the middle of February. Many couples were enjoying the day with a walk in the gardens or by the bruinen, others were spending the day loving each other in bed.

Despite being usually very active in bed, Glorfindel and Erestor did no such thing, for the latter had caught a cold.

Erestor didn‘t consider being a half-elf a blessing. He grew cold way faster than Glorfindel, could become sick, and he could go on with a lengthy list of how being a full elf was a myriad-times better than being a half-elf.

Two days ago, Erestor was giving the twins a lesson in elvish history, when the two elflings had decided to distract their teacher and run of into the valley in the middle of an early spring storm.

When Erestor had noticed, that the two mischief makers had taken off, he went out to search for them.

When he found them by the bruinen, about a mile away from the house, all three of them were drenched. The twins had later received an intense scolding from their parents, while Glorfindel threw a nasty look at the two younglings, while taking his shivering lover into his arms.

Erestor had been very tired, he had searched for the twins for a while, seeing it as his responsibility to watch over them. They had been hiding in a small, barely noticeable, cave near one of the older and lesser used paths.

Still, all three of them had been soaked to their bones when they came home again. It didn‘t come as a surprise when Erestor had come down with a high fever.

The advisor was suffering from dry coughs and was having an enormous headache at the moment. Glorfindel had been gone for a while now, claiming he would get medicine from Elrond.

Shivering, Erestor buried his head further into the blankets, he was feeling terribly hot and terribly cold at the same time. The blankets didn’t do much in helping him, he felt as if they were just taking his warmth away. He wished for Glorfindel to be by his side again.

Erestor was really glad, that he couldn‘t make Glorfindel sick. He hated being alone when he was in such a weak state. He needed some comfort, because old memories he wished he had forgotten were resurfacing.

Memories of shortly after Gondolins– Glorfindels- fall always tended to resurface. He had been a similar state back then. He had been injured in battle and hadn‘t had the time to tend to the wound. He was sick for a long time, the grief over the loss of his husband, his family and his home had nearly send him to the halls too.

Without really noticing he had started to cry, taking Glorfindels pillow in his arms and hugging it tight. It smelled like him.

A few moments past, till the door to their bedroom opened and Glorfindel came back inside. Erestor hadn‘t even heard the door to their shared quarters open or close.

„I‘m sorry, my love, that I took so long. Something came up.“ He said while walking towards the bed. Erestor, who had lain with his back towards the door, now turned to face him. When he saw what Glorfindel had in hand his eyes went wide.

„Celebrian grows them in her gardens, normally they wouldn‘t be growing this time of the year, but she has an excellent green thumb.“ Glorfindel said, while placing the bouquet of yellow celandines next to the bed. „I know they‘re your favourite flowers.“

The blond pressed a kiss onto Erestors unnaturally warm forehead, before wiping away the tears on his cheek. „What happened?“ He asked, frowning, but Erestor shook his head. „Old memories.“ He mumbled, as another wave of coughs forced their way out of his throat.

He sat up, before he reached for the glass, filled with water, on the nightstand and emptied it in one go. „Their pretty.“ Erestor said, while looking at the flowers, before another violent shiver made its way up his spine.

Glorfindel sat down next to Erestor. „You‘re still even prettier.“ He said and smiled softly at him and put an arm around the others shoulder. „Elrond have me this, its against you fever.“

The blond reached into his pockets and pulled out a small vial. Erestor took it and looked at Glorfindel before drinking its contents. „It tastes vile.“ He mumbled while snuggling close to Glorfindel, who pulled the blanket up.

They both lied down again. Glorfindel kept a secure arm around Erestor and kissed him on the lips. „Thank you for the flowers.“ Erestor said, before adding a „thank you for taking care of me.“

„Always.“ Came the whispered reply. „Sleep, it will do you good and I will be here when you wake.“

Glorfindel had noticed how Erestor had grown tired, his body needed rest to recover from the cold. He would be fine in a few days, but for now, Glorfindel took care of him as if he was the most precious being on Arda.

And to Glorfindel, Erestor was the most precious being in existence.

Already feeling better, because Glorfindel was with him, Erestor quickly fell asleep, but not before mumbling a slurred „I love you, Fin“ to his husband.
„I love you too, Eri.“ Came the soft reply and another kiss on his forehead.
