Chapter Text
Day One
You drank a few gulps of water from your water bottle, your hands were shaking.
None of it felt real.
Your breath was shallow as you stared at the time on the right corner of the screen. Your leg was bouncing up and down.
Normally, you weren’t up at this hour. The room was really dark apart from a few lit neon decorations and the light of your screen. You weren't playing any music like you usually would, you really wanted to hear any notification you could get.
Your hand squeezed your brand-new mouse tightly as the cursor hovered over the Join button.
It made no sense to you. Why you? Of everyone, why you?
It felt like an eternity passed by before the clock turned to 3, the indicated time.
You took a deep breath, and pressed the record button on your other screen.
You opened your eyes, seeing for the first time the world around you. It was just morning. You were certainly going to have a lot of things to do.
And you weren’t alone.
You stared with a smile as a crowd of people appeared, one by one, and greeted each other with enthusiasm.
You listened in on some of the chats that occurred, slowly recognizing the faces here. You knew them. Most of them didn’t know you.
You stared as some of them left the spawn point to go adventure somewhere else, speaking of their future plans, and of materials they might need.
You kept quiet as the amount of people at spawn diminished rapidly. Soon, you were only four.
Grian turned around to look at you.
“Hi! Glad to see you!”
You nodded with a smile.
You muted yourself for a moment to let out a shaky breath.
“So? Any plans? What are you going to do?” he asked with his hands on his hips.
You pause for a moment before answering.
“Mmh- I don’t… I don’t know?”
“Would you like to do something first? You could come with us, we’re going to look for a nice place to settle. You could place your base next to Scar’s, Scar loves a nice neighbor.” His colorful wings fluttered as he showed his excitement.
“That I do! Nice to meet you!”
You turned to Scar who was wearing a big broad smile. You noticed his clothes.
“Are- are you s-supposed to be a… a Canadian?”
“What? No! I’m a handsome traveler! I’m going to build a nice base near a road to let other weary travelers rest their feet!”
You smiled more warmly.
“That’s nice.”
“I know, right?! Now come on, we need to find a spot before all the good ones are taken!”
Grian grabbed your wrist and pulled you with them, running and making little jokes.
You stared at them in wonder as your heart swelled in your chest.
After a few minutes of running and then walking, Grian freed your wrist to grab Scar’s who was starting to complain a whole lot about the long walk, pulling him instead of you.
You giggled at their antics. Their pure joy was really contagious.
You stared at each of them, Grian with his wings, Scar with his new outfit, and Mumbo who was also along for the ride, and you realized you forgot to count how many times he twirled his mustache since you arrived.
That was a bit sad, you really wanted to make a bet on it.
There was no one to make the bet with.
Grian chose the spot, a nice clearing with hills all around, and you went with the flow, choosing your hill last after they all ran in different directions. You were now stuck to a small hill, since you knew how limited your building abilities were, and you spent the first moments hollowing it out.
You were barely halfway through when Grian peeked his head through the hole you were going to use as a doorway.
“Going for the Hobbit vibe?”
You looked around, as the square hole you made.
“Yeah?”
“Oh, that’s cool! Can’t wait to see how it’s going to go! I wanna prank Scar though, right now. I was going to ask if you want to come along?”
“What kind of prank?”
Grian’s eyes turned mischievous.
“Only the best kind.”
Uh oh.
“If we don’t kill anyone, I’m in.”
Grian laughed.
“You’re so sweet. No, we’re not killing him. Come on, I have the jukebox, and we need to do some redstone.”
You followed him, a bit nervous as he walked you to his base, explaining his plan.
You were really surprised at the pace at which you blended in with the group, already being a small part of jokes.
And now you could proudly say you made Scar scream in your first session on Hermitcraft.
