Single Parent Problems

Summary:

Shiera Seastar, Great Bastard of Aegon the Unworthy, raises twin sons by two fathers. It is just as complicated as it sounds.

Notes:

I hope you enjoy this story. If you want, you could write the follow up scene where Shiera has to deal with the mess that just occurred.

Work Text:

“I cannot believe that Gwenys would break my Glamour before the entire court!”

Sheira Seastar was still embarrassed by that. She had been using a glamour to hide the changes to her body that had occurred after her pregnancy.

She was no longer thin and supple. Her hips and belly had more flesh to them now than they had ever had before her pregnancy, and nothing she seemed to do would fix it.

Truth be told, she didn’t hate her new appearance, it just ran counter to the image that she has spent most of her life cultivating.

“You didn’t expect Brynden’s sister, the mother of Aegor’s firstborn, who loves Aegor, even though he just uses her to spite her brother, who feels intense jealousy for you, to lash out against you after it was revealed that you had a son with both her brother and lover?”

Daemon’s words cut to the heart of the matter, as they always did. Turning to face him, her eyes blazing with fury, she moved towards him, until Daemon took the legs out from under her fury with his next words.

“You are just as beautiful as you were before, just in a different way. You are still a goddess, just The Mother rather than The Maiden.”

They were in the maidenvault, more specifically, in the room that she had converted into Jace and Val’s room.

She didn’t like that Daemon had brought Blackfyre into said room, but she knew that trying to separate Daemon from his sword was practically impossible.

Especially now that Lords and Ladies were calling Daeron, Daeron the falseborn openly.

“Well, when you put it like that…” Shiera smiled at her half brother.

Daemon smiled back. “Are our beloved brothers still trying to abduct their sons?”

Shiera shook her head in exasperation. “Of course they are. They are even coming up with half decent excuses. Training the boys in the martial and magical arts.”

“Their four. Far too young to bother with either of those.” Daemon grunted, taking a gulp of her wine as though it were water.

Shiera waited for him to swallow before speaking again. “That is a problem though. Boys start learning the ways of war late in their seventh year, and I can’t teach them that.”

Daemon looked at her, seemingly considering her words. “I could train them with my own sons. Jaehaerys and Maegor are only a few moons older than them, they would all learn the basics together.”

Yes Daemon. I will surrender my sons to you as hostages. And the moment that Valaeryn sends Maegor into the dirt, is the day he will die of a summer chill.

“Baelor has already promised to train them when they are of age.”

Suddenly, Daemon’s face clouded over with fury.

“Do not mention that dornish snake.”

Shiera’s grin turned feral. “Really Daemon, after all this time? It was one tourney.”

Daemon turned to look at her, his face red as his doublet, the shadows cast over it as dark as the dragon that he wore for his sigil.

“Always.”

There was nothing that she could say to that.

That was when they heard a window open.

Shiera screamed into her hands in exasperation, and whoever had broken into the Maidenvault fell over, scattering whatever he had fallen onto all over whatever chamber he was in on the floor below them.

Drawing Blackfyre, Daemon nodded at her, suddenly pretending to be the truest of true knights.

Leaving the room and going down the stairs, Daemon left her and her children to go face the intruder.

Walking over to the bed that her son’s shared (The room was not big enough for both to have their own bed. The Maidenvault was originally designed as a prison after all.) Shiera took them both into her arms.

Jacaerys was outgrowing Valaeryn as she knew he would, and holding them both at the same time would soon be impossible, but Shiera would continue to do so until she physically couldn’t anymore.

The moment of silence was shattered by a yelp, a punch and a bit of a scuffle.

“Shiera!” Daemon called. “I’ve caught your Raven!”

She bit her tongue to keep herself from swearing and teaching her sons bad habits.

“I’ll be right down, Daemon.”
