Naming The Duck

Summary:

Adam falls asleep in his garden, which he had grown to resemble Eden.
While sleeping, he has a vivid dream of one of his favorite memories from that time.

Notes:

I wrote this in my English class instead of doing a test. I hope you enjoy
I did too much research on ducks

Work Text:

Adam lands, dizzy and tired. Unable to enter his penthouse, he sits in the garden he grew. His head spins, looking up at the few trees he grew. Closing his eyes, the night-like lights of Heaven draping colors across his body. He sits on the grassy ground. Yawning. Closing his eyes for a moment. Just one moment.

“ADAM!” A voice calling him, coming from somewhere within the trees. He opens one of his eyes and looks around. There's dense forest as far as he can see. He groans softly when the sunlight invades his eyes. Closing his eyes, he feels a shadow linger over him.

“Adam, buddy, wake up!” The voice called again, much closer- hell over him. Opening his eyes, he looks up at the angelic figure invading his sight: golden hair, bright white tophat with a blue under-brim. The figure hovered over him for a moment, six bright white wings beating the air in an annoyed fashion, too speedy for the blue underwings to be seen, before Landing and sitting next to The human.

“Too lazy to get up huh.” The figure asks.

“Go away, Luci. I want to sleep.” The words escaped Adam’s mouth before he could stop them.
“You can sleep all you want after I leave!” Lucifer laughs gently. “I want to show you something.”

“Show me what,” Adam asks, more annoyed at the angel for interrupting his nap than curious
“Sera let me make an animal.” Lucifer pulls out a small thing. It's making some hash sound. Adam sits up, and the Angel hands the small thing to him. “I want you to name it. That's one of your jobs here on earth after all.”

Adam thinks for a moment, holding the soft thing in his hand. “Is it fully grown?”

“... no. I wanted to see what it would grow itself into!” The angel grins, his bright blue cheeks glowing slightly.
“You know you can't do that.”
“I know.” the angel takes the creature out of the human's hands. Making it grow in an instant.  The grown duck has a yellow or orange bill with a black "bean". The plumage is whitish with markings in various shades of brown and grey. Her legs are yellow-orange with dark toenails and wings marked with a blue cross-stripe.

“How about ‘Duck’?” the human asks, he didn't expect the name to stick, but the angel’s eyes went wide and bright. the sun from above capturing their almost purple hue. Oh, how he could be lost in those eyes forever...
“A DUCK IT IS!!” he threw the animal up, and it made distressed noises. Neither the angel nor the human cared, both of them laughing at Lucifer’s outburst.

Adam yawns laying his head on Lucifer’s shoulder once he sat back down. “I missed you.”
The words the angel said blurred, as Adam fell asleep.

He wakes up suddenly, sitting back in his garden. Half drunk from his show. Trying to stand, he stumbles. He forgot how heavy his wings could be. And clothes. Fuck. he stands and stumbles over to an apple tree he grew and grabs one of the apples. He shouldn’t miss the traitor. it was ten thousand years ago.  Reaching up, he plucks one apple from the tree. the tree he shouldn't have.

Sitting back down he sighs, holding the picked apple close. The shiny red apple reminds Him of the Fallen Angel. and the Days he betrayed Him and all of Heaven. Falling asleep again, holding the apple close to his chest.

He doesn't Miss him.
