They were laying in the bed of Brian's truck, Clay in Brian's arms. They were in the middle of nowhere, having decided that with the next 3 days off, they were just going to drive until they found a spot with no light pollution. It had taken three hours,but it was worth. The stars where bright and clear and the moon shone, all things Brian would have noticed, if he wasn't staring at Clay.
Clay. Apple of his eye. Owner of his heart. The reason he woke up in the morning and the last thing he thought about before he fell asleep. Clay was his everything, to the point were it scared him what he'd be willing to do to keep Clay safe and happy. Even with knowing all that, even before they had gotten together, there was a weird feeling overcoming him
It wasn't a bad feeling, just one Brian didn't recognize. It was soft, and yet full of joy all the same. It was beautiful, but not in a blinding way. It was...it was...it was hard to describe. It was like everything is okay, as long as he has Clay, and together they could get through anything at all. Reactively, Brian held Clay even tighter.
Brian leaned down to Clay's ear, needed to tell him what he was feeling, but the only words out of his mouth were some of the most important in their relationship.
"I love you, baby."
"I love you,too."
Brian shook his head.
"No,I love you. I love you so much, you make me so happy. You mean so much to me, I have no idea what I did to deserve you, and I'm sorry if I dont tell you that as much as I should."
"I know, Bri, I know. I love you, too. You've stuck by me no matter what, and I dont know if I could ever tell you how greatful I am for that. Thank you."
A pause enveloped them as they both looked to the stars.
"Honey?" Brian started.
"What?"
"I love you."
"I know. I love you, too."
And it hit him. Brian finally knew what that strange feeling was. It was...peace.
