Work Text:

Hook groaned as he sat up unsure what hit him this time, at least, based on the pain, it was his face and not his chest.

“Hook,” A worried voice said

He blinked bringing his vision back into focus, sight first falling on Scrapper in his holoform about 30 feet away. Looking around more he found himself in the middle of a large sheet of glass…well not glass it was ice, cause they were in Alaska. He and Scrapper had been crossing the lake and they were attacked.

He dropped his head sighing hard before he heard an ominous chirping noise as a large cracked formed underneath him, what caused this the ice had to be several feet deep.

“Don’t move,” Scrapper warned

“Oh I was going to surge forward, thought that would be a good plan,” Hook snapped back sarcastically, as he jerked to look at his leader, only to regret it with another loud chirp of the ice.

“Keeping you alive has to be my most difficult job yet,” Scrapper muttered to himself as he rolled his eyes, wishing he could send irritation over their bond, but he couldn’t in his holoform. Nor could he step on the ice without risking farther cracking

“What happened?” Hook asked as he went back to looking around noticing the large hole in the ice from which the cracks spread.

“We were attacked by….something, it was 30 feet easy, furry, white, batted us both pretty hard,” Scrapper explained as he looked for anything to get Hook off the ice with “can you use your anti Gravs?”

“Too cold still for the nanites,” Hook answered as he got lower, “I can use subspace and that’s about it.”

“Got any rope or a chain?”

“Chain but it will be heavy and only about 20 feet,” Hook said after thinking about it for a moment.

“It’s something,” Scrapper said with a shrug

Hook gave a nod and started to crawl as carefully as he could, though the ice chirped with each step. But when he was close enough he pulled the chain from subspace and whipped it across the ice before wrapping it around his arm and laying flat

Scrapper grabbed it when it hit the snow and started to pull Hook along the ice

Hook looked down at the clear water below, well clear for about 20 or so feet then it was just dark, “ what happened to the thing?”

“I regained some sensibility and it was stalking towards you, so I shot it, with a missile,” Scrapper said as he slowly drug his human back to land until he was within range to grab the back of his jacket and yank him off the ice, “it crashed down and broke the ice. Musta been fragging heavy.”

“Was likely the force from the missile,” Hook said with a grunt as he was yanked into the snow covered bank

Scrapper knelt down and grabbed Hook’s face to turn it and check the damage. He’d likely have a large bruise maybe even a black eye

“How much worst can this trip get?” Hook asked as he pulled away

“Well I believe there is at least one more of those snow monsters on the loose and we have no way of warning the others,” Scrapper said glancing pass Hook so he could check his com signal on his HUD. He also stood and dusted himself off, “no luck.”

“Right,” Hook said looking back in the direction of the town as he stood carefully

“Let’s get going,” Scrapper said as he started walking

Hook threw one more look over his shoulder to the hole in the ice before he followed closely
