Work Text:
There’s a loud groan from the room over, followed by the sound of paper ripping. Rui doesn’t even look up anymore, isn’t bothered by the sound anymore, focused on his own task.
It’s not like he doesn’t want to help Akito, but he has his own job and a deadline.
He sits back in his chair, cold hands pressed against his face.
Then again, he hasn’t seen Akito in a while. Despite the two living together, despite Akito being just a room away, their work caused horrible sleep schedules and worse eating habits- Rui completely forgetting to eat until late into the night and Akito grabbing small things from the kitchen to nibble on as he works.
But Rui, and he’s sure Akito would agree, doesn’t feel like he’s satisfied with all he’s done today yet. There’re still more things to finetune, more plans to adjust.
So, Rui stays put, returning to his work after the brief pause, mind soon occupied with it rather than his husband.
Akito collapses into the bed after a long day of work, wholly unsatisfied with his progress. None of the designs he had made were passable in the slightest, at least not to him. Rui would say otherwise, but what does Rui know about fashion?
He glances at the other side of the bed, hand brushing over the spot usually occupied by his husband. In moments such as these, Akito can’t help but feel a little lonely.
He knows Rui isn’t far, knows that he could get up and talk to the other, but… well… It would hardly be what he wants.
Akito wants the quiet moments, shared in the morning hours, sunlight filtering through the window, an embrace shared just between the two of them…
He closes his eyes, turning around, blanket wrapped tightly around him. Just a little longer… he’ll get all of that and more if he holds on just a little longer.
Rui smiles, as he heads home, happy to finally have finished the calibrations for all the electronics he needs for the next few shows.
When he gets home, he definitely deserves a good rest, although… ah no no, he shouldn’t disrupt Akito’s work. He can wait until both of them are free to make up for the lost time… He can totally wait.
HE CAN NOT WAIT.
Did his resolve crumble way too fast? Maybe! But he’s touch and attention starved, and Akito is way too cute, eyebrows furrowed and outing down at the papers before him. And and and- most importantly! He missed him! A lot!
Quickly, Rui tears his eyes from the scene, disappearing into the bathroom for a relaxing shower, then heading right to sleep, although it doesn’t find him fast, a small, painful tinge in his heart keeping him awake for longer than he’d like.
Rui wakes up alone. Not that he was expecting anything else, but it’s still a little sad…
He gets up, waddling to the kitchen to make himself something to eat, checking in on Akito as he passes. Still in the same spot as a few hours ago, a few crumpled papers scattered around the table, but no longer are his brows furrowed nor is he pouting. Rui hopes this means he’ll finish up work in the near future.
It’s taking all his self-control not to run over and pull the other into a big hug, holding him closer than close, until they melt together.
A deep breath. Food. Then more sleep. He has a lot to catch up on. Just a little longer anyway.
When Rui wakes up, he is greeted with orange hair and a warm puff of air against his shoulder, the smell of something syrupy and sweet in his nose and the warmth radiating from the body next to him.
A bright grin, followed by a small giggle and arms wrapping around Akito, holding him close, close, closer, breathing him in, happiness swirling just under Rui’s skin.
A quiet huff, Akito shifts a little closer, eyes blinking open, meeting with golden ones glowing like the sun. Rui is warm like it too, the warmth sinking into Akito’s skin and he’s happy happy happy.
No more work, no more agonizing over being so close yet way too far for comfort, now all that awaits is a lazy morning just as Akito had wished for and the affection Rui had longed for.
