Work Text:

They got back to the east dormitory buildings a little past midnight. The lounge was empty, and so was the hallway leading to their room, but both of them were too tipsy to notice. Music wafted through the window of their dorm, a sign that the graduation party was far from its end.

Victor noticed this first, turning to face Vincent with the kind of glee that only came from a head full of alcohol and heart full of Vincent Edgeworth.

"May I have this dance?" He asked, bowing dramatically and reaching out a hand.

Vincent stared, hesitating for a moment. The music was faint at best, soft background noise. It was something fast and mechanical, and he was sure he didn't know how to dance to it. He let himself take Victor's hand anyway.

Victor grinned in a way that made Vincent’s face burn. Vincent fought the smile threatening to show on his lips as Victor grabbed his other hand and guided it to his shoulder. Victor’s other hand found it's resting place on the small of Vincent's back, pulling him close until their chests were nearly flat against each other’s.

Vincent felt like he was choking on his tongue, and he strained his neck backwards in an attempt to put some distance between Victor’s face and his. “I do not know how to dance,” he admitted, shifting his glance towards the window. He meant it as a warning, a silent apology for any missteps he made tonight. The main hall, the heart of RMU, was lit up with bright flashing lights that changed colors every few seconds. It casted an erratic glow on their room.

Victor laughed, lacing his fingers with Vincent’s and pulling their arms out straight to the side. “My dear Vincent, just follow my lead. There’s no rules here,” he winked for good measure and pretended not to notice the new shade of red Vincent acquired over his cheeks.

Slowly, they moved, Victor’s feet guiding Vincent’s around their dorm room. The space was too small for a real dance, and they were mostly rocking against each other in a gentle rhythm. It did not fit the sound of the music playing behind them, and they did not care.

“You’re a natural,” Victor commented, smiling as Vincent kept his eyes to the floor, tracking his movements.

Vincent only huffed in response.

They continued for a while in the same steady motion, ciricling the little room they had between their beds and desks. Vincent slowly warmed to the position, letting himself rest his arm comfortably over Victor’s shoulder and leaning into him a little more. Victor noticed, and took the opportunity to adjust his hand on Vincent’s waist, holding them firmly together.

Vincent stole glances toward’s Victor’s face, occasionally staring at his blue eyes and looking away as soon as Victor noticed. The room felt hot, and he wasn’t sure if it was just the alcohol in his body or the summer heat that was making him feel so warm.

He was caught off guard when he was suddenly tipped over, Victor’s arm behind his back the only thing stopping him from slipping down further. An embarrassing noise left his mouth as they dipped, and he didn’t notice Victor leaning down too until their noses bumped.

Vincent’s face was on fire. Surely, the heat was going to kill him.

Victor was so close, Vincent could feel his breathing. He could feel Victor’s beard brushing against his chin and see the speckles around the rim of the iris, where blue met white. His heart was beating so quickly, he wondered if Victor could hear it too.

All of these thoughts were lost when Victor leaned forward the slightest bit more and their lips pressed together. Vincent felt his mind stutter as his eyelids dipped down, scrambling to move his mouth against Victor’s. Victor was warm and soft, and Vincent thought he could probably do nothing but this for the rest of his life and be okay with it.

Victor pulled away as quickly as he had leaned in, and moved Vincent up with him. His own face was now a soft pink, almost matching his hair.

“A thank you for the most wonderful date,” Victor said, as though it needed to be explained.

Vincent, still shellschocked, struggled to reply, his tongue lagging like honey dripping from the bottle. He pressed a kiss to Victor’s cheek in lieu of a reply, quickly burying his face in Victor’s shoulder after to spare himself the embarrassment. His stomach was fluttering in a way he had never felt before.

He could feel Victor’s laughter shaking against him as he wrapped his arms around him, pulling Vincent down with him as he fell backwards onto the twin sized bed behind them.

“My beautiful, amazing, Vincent,” Victor mumbled into his hair, peppering kisses on Vincent’s forehead.

“Stop,” Vincent whined half-heartedly, adjusting himself so he could attack Victor’s jaw with kisses of his own. He reached his hands up to cup either side of Victor’s face, staring silently for several moments. “I want… to spend the rest of my life with you,” he said decidedly at last.

“And you will,” Victor replied quickly, as if he already knew.

Vincent’s memory of the night ended there, and he can only remember waking up the next morning with the comforter pulled over his shoulders and the sound of Victor’s heart beating beneath him.
