I get a call from Lin in the middle of the night and immediately a sense of dread washes over me.
“Lin? What’s wrong?”
“It’s about Mako…”
I feel sick to my stomach at Lin’s solemn tone.
“What happened is he okay?”
“I’m sorry…”
The soft sob escaping Lin shatters my heart into a million pieces…
“How…”
“An explosion downtown… he went inside a burning building to save people but the fire hit a gas pipe…”
I startle awake suddenly my heart racing a mile an minute, my body drenched in cold sweat as I look around my moonlit surroundings, next to me a concerned looking Lin.
“Love? Are you okay? What’s wrong?”
I attempt to calm down as I remember the events of last week and that Mako is in his bed down the hall since he has only a few minor injuries from the explosion.
“I’m okay… just a nightmare…”
I slip out of bed leaving a confused Lin behind as I silently walk to Mako’s room and open the door. He’s sleeping peacefully so I just look at him for a moment to make sure he’s still breathing and that he’s really okay before returning to bed. As I enter the bedroom Lin looks at me with a worried look.
“Y/n? Please tell me what’s wrong…”
I crawl back into bed and lay my head on her chest and tell her of my nightmare.
“Oh love… he’s okay… he has just a few bruises and a broken arm…”
“I know… it just… felt so real…”
“I know… just close your eyes and rest… I’m here he’s here and okay… just rest…”
I sigh softly and bury my face in her chest as she rubs my back and begin to fall back asleep soothed by Lin’s lingering scent of jasmine perfume.
“I love you Lin…”
“I love you too sweetheart…”
