Work Text:
Checking herself in the mirror for the hundredth time, she refixed any imperfections in her makeup and any unruly curls. Charity was rather nervous for her date with Severus and made up for it by dressing up. She wore chestnut cord trousers, a navy long sleeve top, simple gold jewelry, and her favorite boots.
Ding dong.
After grabbing her keys and putting on her coat, she opened her front door. Severus stood there with a bouquet of flowers.
“Oh, are those for me?” Charity accepted the bouquet. She wasn’t expecting such a sweet gesture from Severus. “They’re very pretty. Let me just put them in a vase with water, and then we’ll leave.”
Severus waited for her at the door while she rushed to place the flowers in the water. She would have to rearrange the flowers once she got back from the date.
“Let’s go.” Charity held his offered arm as they walked in the chill spring air. Birds chirped, cars drove by, and other people walked by.
“Can I ask what made you ask me out? You’ve never shown any interest in anyone, at least that I’ve noticed.”
Severus contemplated for a long moment. “I’ve never felt this content being around someone since my childhood. And I don’t want to make the same mistakes and allow anyone else to steal my chance at being more than just your friend.”
“Oh.” Charity felt her cheeks heat up in delight.
