Work Text:

Rebels and Imperials

“You, are a traitor! Just, like the Jedi.”

The words of CC-2224 being delivered without any of the mocking lilt though. The frosty bite, the effect those words had had even for himself before, were all but gone. Having heard it all before one too many times. Spat out like hatred by the other clones as well. Guess, it simply had lost its meaning after all this time.

“Cody, surely you can see it? Feel it even? Deep, inside of you. The troopers you once were knowing this is all, wrong. That the Empire, is evil. Nothing you do in their name helps anyone but the Emperor.”

Rex could only hope to somehow reach through the thick armour the imperials had placed both figuratively and literally on the once proud republic soldier. The proud Marshal Commander Cody had been, and not this, number. CC-2224. That there was still an inkling of the old Cody left in there somewhere. Deep within. Rex only hoping the effect of the control chips having faded in time for Cody as it had for so many other troopers already seeking refuge with Rex’s Cause.

Cody looked, well, confused perhaps. The bucket having been discarded already earlier while trying to assure Rex it was really him. Cody. No just an Imperial Number. CC-2224. Remaining baffled though, the words of Rex clinging to his thoughts like some antidote to a decease he was suffering from.

The initial idea of Cody’s having been the one of recruiting Rex into the imperial ranks after having heard the rumours of the rogue clone organising the awol clones to some kind of rebellion. Well Cody had hoped to, what, talk some sense into Rex? Trying to change his mind and join the Empire.

But, seeing Rex here now, after all this time. Cody’s heart, his love, his… everything… surely, that was in the past now?

“I… I … “

But the words were stuck in Cody’s throat. The tears never shed prickling behind his eyes with all the emotions, all those pesky feelings having been kept locked, hidden away deep inside of him never to be felt again… It was no use to try to struggle against them and so, Cody simply broke down. Crying, wallowing in the sudden burst of sensations, his body shaking uncontrollably like a leaf in the stormy winds.

Falling to his knees on the ground of the forsaken planet Cody had lured Rex into, for… well. Cody could not even think about what his intentions were at this point. Suddenly everything else loosing meaning. The Empire, the rebellion, choosing sides…

Because Rex, was here. With him.

Rex was by Cody’s side in a flash, his arms around Cody, holding onto the distraught man. His, heart. Rex’s very reason of coming to this place.

“It’s alright Cody. It’s alright.” Rex kept on whispering softly to Cody, holding onto the man for dear life. Both, their lives.
