Today is an exciting and hectic day for the frizzy-haired leader of the Phantom Thieves, Ren Amamiya, and his petite orange-haired girlfriend, Futaba Sakura. Around this time of year, a rather popular convention, NoNoCon, is held. Thankfully for this couple, it was close enough to their area to where taking the train was a very easy method of transportation to the con. Their talking cat and close friend, Morgana, decided to let the two have their alone time at the convention and stayed home to rest. The duo have been walking around browsing the different artist booths and prop stands until Futaba notices a couple having a familiar cosplay; a red-haired tomboy and a brown-haired boy with similar school uniforms.
"Oh look Ren!" she exclaimed. "They’re cosplaying as the couple from the anime we’ve binged last week!"
"Wow, their cosplays are insanely detailed. You wanna take a picture with them?" Ren asked.
"If that’s okay with you please!
"Sure, as long as they’re cool with it.
"WOOOO!" she exclaims. The girl then walks on over to the couple with the couple noticing her coming their way. "H-Hi! I really love your outfits! Do you mind if I can take a picture with you two?"
"Not at all!" the girl replied with the boy giving a thumbs up as his way of saying "go ahead." The moment they've responded positively, the orange-haired girl's face gleamed with excitement.
"Yo Ren! They’re cool with it!" she exclaimed while waving at Ren. Ren gives a thumbs up and pulls out his camera app on his phone. After rotating his phone around, he goes ahead and takes a few pictures of all three of them posing together. "Alright, I caught some good ones!" he exclaims.
"Nice!" she exclaims before turning back around to the cosplayers. "Thank you so much, guys! Bye!"
"No problem! Have a good day, you two!" the girl cosplayer responded back with both her and the boy waving at them. The spectacled duo waved back at them and proceeded to keep walking around for different booths to explore.
"Thanks for taking pics for me the whole day, Ren."
"Not a prob. I’m just happy to see you having fun."
"I’m having a blast! I’m glad we were able to go to NoNoCon again this year! And....besides...” she said before pausing herself. Ren noticed that and looked back at her with a rather curious gaze, wondering what she was pausing herself at what to say.
"Y-You’re here with me, so why would I n-not be happy, ya know?" she stumbled her words a bit while having her face become as red as a tomato. Ren gets taken aback enough to where his face rivaled Futaba's from how warm his face felt. Nevertheless, he immediately smiled at her and kissed her forehead, which of course, surprised the petite girl.
"W-What was that for?!" she stuttered out of shock.
"For being adorable, like always," he responds warmly and goes to rub her head. While on the surface, it didn't seem like she enjoyed his display of affection, she genuinely does on the inside.
"I gotta go use the restroom real quick. Is…there one even nearby?" Ren inquired.
"I think? It’s kinda hard for me to see for myself since I’m….well, ya know..."
"A munchkin?" he teased.
"Hey, you chose to date said munchkin, so I don’t wanna hear it!
"I wouldn’t have it any other way, so I’m not complaining," he said while still holding his warm smile at the girl.
"I….man, I was supposed to make your heart flutter there! How are you always able to switch it back around?!"
"Guess it’s a natural talent of mine."
"Yeah, natural talent of being a dork."
"Correction: my dork."
"Ugh, see?! That’s what I’m talking about!" she groaned in playful frustration. Even moreso due to Ren adjusting his glasses with her typical smug grin as if he never left the Metaverse and still wore his Joker attire. Even through her playful frustration, she managed to spot a bathroom while they were strolling.
"Oh there’s one! I’ll wait outside for you!" she said to Ren.
"Gotcha, I’ll be back in a bit."
"Okay!" As Ren walked into the restroom, something immediately caught Futaba's eye: a Featherman artist booth with a bountiful amount of merch and charms hanging up. "Whoa, all of that looks insanely good!" she exclaimed.
Then, an idea struck her. After thinking it over for a quick moment, she grew a mischievious grin on her face.
"This gives me an idea."
After a few minutes, Ren walked out of the bathroom. "Sorry about that. Ryuji was texting me while I was in there, so it took me a b-"
Then he noticed Futaba wasn't at her waiting spot.
"Futaba?" he expressed with concern. Thankfully, she was still at the booth and heard her boyfriend call out to her. As soon as she heard his voice, she immediately called out to him to ease his worries. "Hey, I'm over here!" she waves at him. "I'm alright! Just give me a sec!"
That's all it took for Ren to be relieved. "Thank goodness, she's safe," he sighed in relief. However, he couldn’t help but notice that Futaba was having a full-blown conversation with the artist at the booth. After everything that Futaba has gone through with trying to move on from her mother's death, her abuse from her uncle, and her social anxiety over the years, here she is having a conversation with a stranger about something she's passionate about. The boy can't help but smile and feel so proud of her progress since they met. Before he knew it, he saw Futaba make her way back over. As she was, she was waving goodbye to the artist.
"Thank you so much! Have a good day, you two!" the artist waved back.
"You too! Buh-bye now!" Futaba replied with glee. After her and the artist said their farewells, the spectacled duo started walking together.
"Sorry! The booth was close by, so I wanted to get something from there real quick! Sorry if I worried you…" she expressed with concern.
"No, it’s fine!" Ren ensured. "I’m just glad that you were safe and having a good time."
"Mhm! The artist is a Featherman fanatic, so we kinda talked for a bit. Oh oh! Look what I got!"
As she was talking, she pulled out two Featherman charms from her little gift bag: one of the red Feather Dooka, and the other of the green Feather Toucan. "They were selling these charms! I…wanted to get one for both of us. Y-You know, so we can match."
As if on cue, Ren immediately takes the Dooka charm and pins it to his shirt, catching Futaba completely off-guard by his quick pace.
"D-Don’t just immediately put it on!" she expressed with a beet-colored face.
"Why not?" Ren replied with a blank stare.
This pushed Futaba to follow his footsteps. "F-Fine! I’ll do the same!" she groaned while pinning the charm to her shirt.
"Looks good on you, 'Taba." Ren smiled.
"S-Same to you, pretty bo-"
Her flirtatious comeback was cut short from the rather loud grumbling of her stomach. Granted, they both haven't eaten anything for quite some time today, so it was only a matter of time before one of them got hungry.
"Sounds like someone’s hungry," Ren chuckled.
"Yeah, I kinda need something to replenish my HP."
"Honestly, I could go for a bite myself. There’s a concession stand a little far back. You wanna grab something there? I’ll pay, no worries."
"Heck yeah!"
After finding a concession stand selling takoyaki, they sat down in a corner and continued talking with each other while they ate. After they finished their food, they walked around for another hour before deciding to head home for the day. While they were both exhausted by the end of the day, they both had a blast with each other. In the end, that's all that mattered.
