Flowers for a nerd

Summary:

Katsuki's hands were sweating more than normal.
Which was something considering his quirk is literally sweating. But it wasn't because of a fight or a particularly difficult exam (both things are not a problem for him after all) but because he had decided to finally ask Izuku out on Valentine's Day.

A short fic about Katsuki confessing on valentine's day <3

Work Text:

Katsuki's hands were sweating more than normal.
Which was something considering his quirk is literally sweating. But it wasn't because of a fight or a particularly difficult exam (both things are not a problem for him after all), but because he had decided to finally ask Izuku out on Valentine's Day.

It was as embarrassing as it sounded, but Katsuki wasn't going to chicken out and not do it. He was Bakugo Katsuki! If there's anyone who can invite their crush on a date and come out victorious, it's him!

The other problem was that he had to be quick. During their first year at U.A., Izuku became, well, popular. Katsuki remembered that Valentine's Day. His desk was filled with letters, chocolates, and gifts.

The nerd cried when he saw them and wanted to thank everyone who had left him a gift in person. At the time, Katsuki didn't know why seeing that made him so angry; now, Katsuki knows exactly why. So he was determined to be the first to ask Izuku out; he wasn't about to see him date a random extra with him being right there.

And that's why, as soon as he got up, he left school to get what he needed.
Why didn't he do it before? Well, the nerd once said that receiving flowers from someone special must be very ugg romantic. Katsuki overheard and decided to give Izuku what he wanted, no matter how embarrassing it was. So he was going to give him a bouquet of fresh flowers on Valentine's Day.

His first stop was the store. He bought some ingredients to bake some sweets with Izuku after their date (no, Katsuki wasn't getting ahead of himself; the nerd would obviously say yes) and then headed to the flower shop.

Upon entering, Katsuki had no idea what to choose. Make no mistake, Katsuki was perfectly sure about what Izuku's favorite flowers were. But he didn't know whether to give him only those or other flowers as well, or whether he should give him a large or small bouquet. The girl who worked there seemed to realize his predicament and greeted him with a smile.

"Good morning! How can I help you?"

"I want to buy some flowers, obviously."

Perfect. Izuku would be disappointed in him if he were there. To her credit, the girl didn't even flinch; she continued looking at him with a smile.

"Well, there are many options that I can offer you. Do you know which ones are her favorites?"

"Sunflowers," he murmured without looking at her.

"Well, I can mix the sunflowers with other flowers if that's okay with you; I'm sure she'll love it."

"They are for a boy," he answered, rolling his eyes.

He has always been bothered when people simply assume he is straight.

"Oh! Well, I'm sure he'll love it."

Still with a smile on her face, the girl started to work. The final result pleased Katsuki. The bouquet was neither big nor small. She had mixed the sunflowers with some daisies and pink roses. They were tied with cellophane paper and a pretty red bow. Katsuki thanked her and paid. He felt silly carrying a bouquet of flowers, but he reminded himself that it was all for Izuku. It was time to go back to the dorms.

He didn't find Izuku in the common room, so he went to his room. He looked at his watch. Yes, it was definitely too early for a love confession, but Katsuki was serious when he said he would be the first.
He knocked a few times, and a few seconds later, Izuku appeared, his hair messier than normal and with sleepy eyes.Fuck Katsuki had woken him up.

"Kacchan? Did something happen? Are you injured? is everything-"

"Calm down, nerd," he said, putting his free hand over his mouth.

"I just came to ask you something."

The boy nodded, and Katsuki removed his hand.

"What do you want to ask me?" now his eyes were full of curiosity.

Then came the difficult part. Because no matter how much Katsuki boasted that he was the best and that Izuku would definitely say yes, the truth was that he was afraid. Maybe if their past was different, it would be easier, but how do you ask the boy you bullied for years to go out with you? Izuku had every right to reject him, to laugh in his face even, but Katsuki knew that Izuku was too good for that. In the worst-case scenario, Izuku would politely reject him.

"Izuku," he began, "I wanted to, uh, I wanted to ask you..."

Get a grip, Katsuki! Don't be so pathetic.

Who knew that the Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight would be so nervous about asking the boy he likes on a date? Even his hands were shaking!

"What are you hiding?"

Perfect. Izuku was now trying to see what Katsuki was hiding behind his back. With a sigh, he finally showed the flowers to the boy. From his reaction, Izuku expected anything but that.

"Who are they for?"

Katsuki would throw an insult at him for being so clueless, but he was too nervous for that.

"Obviously, they are for you, nerd."

"Oh."

Oh? Katsuki didn't know how to interpret that; Izuku's expression was strangely neutral.

"What for?"

Katsuki didn't know how he fell in love with such an idiot.

"Izuku, I don't know if I even have the right to ask you this, but I had to try... Do you want to go out with me? On a date or whatever."

Finally. Katsuki felt proud that he had said it without hesitation, even though inside he was dreading his response.
Izuku's smile made all his worries go away. He took the bouquet and admired it for a few seconds, then looked into his eyes again.

"Yes. Of course, Kacchan. The flowers are beautiful; I can't believe you remembered."

Katsuki felt many things in that moment: relief, joy, embarrassment. But it didn't compare to the electricity he felt when Izuku's lips touched his cheek.

"Wait for me for a while; I just woke up," he said with a shy smile, and then closed the door.

Katsuki stood there for a few seconds, touching the cheek that Izuku kissed. Then his expression changed to a victorious smile, as if he had just been declared the number one hero in front of everyone.

This was even better.
