Chapter Text
Another Day... Another Day... Another Day... Work. Work. Work.
This life is miserable... Will this be all I have to do for the rest of my life? It's not fulfilling... Perhaps... Perhaps I should...
"Now remember kid, there will be a day when you feel modern life crushing you... Open this letter. In it is a wonderful gift to you, but only open it when you feel it's needed!"
Huh...? Letter? Wait... Grandpa did leave a letter for me to see if life became unfulfilling... It's gotta mean something. Have to find it... I kept it nearby recently. Maybe because I knew I wanted to read it soon anyway. Now which drawer was it again... There!
I unseal the contents carefully, it's a little dusty but that's fine... I open the letter and start reading:
"If you're reading this, you must be in dire need of a change. The same thing happened to me, long ago. I'd lost sight of what mattered most in life... real connections with other people and nature. So I dropped everything and moved to the place I truly belong."
The old man was always sentimental...
"Inside I've included the deed to that place, my Pride and Joy: XxxxxxxxxxxX. It's located in Stardew Valley, on the southern coast. It's the perfect place to start your new life.
This was my most precious gift of all, and now it's yours. I know you'll honor the family name, kid.
Love, Grandpa"
A Farm, huh? Well... It beats just living in a perpetual cycle of computer work in a cubicle. Plus, with that much land there's clearly something to be done for a profit. Maybe living above minimum wage for once in my life...
Oh, there's a Post script...
"Oh, the House by the farm has enough room for four people. Of course you can expand it or even build another house since it'll be your land but if you invite anyone to come with you keep it to three people."
Invite others? I mean... Yeah. I can see the others in my life also wanting to escape this. But only three? Who would be a good invite?
Toby
My current roommate who helps pay the rent in my apartment. I feel at least a little obligation to offer this to him considering if I move it'll probably screw over his living arrangements until he gets another guy. We're pretty good friends too, though not the best. He also grew up near a river and lake in the past so if I need a fisherman he's the go to option. Also told me he could cook well. Didn't elaborate on what, though.
Sarah
My younger sister. About to get kicked out of Dad's house to find a job. She'll take what she can get and I can probably make her do anything with enough effort. Unless I let her do her Content Creator career... But that'll probably flop anyway. I mean, really, what kind of people have the time to watch a girl play games badly? Regardless, she's still my sister though. I want to help her, and no matter what I do, she'll have my back. Unlike Gerald.
Gerald
My older brother, who was also named after Grandpa, funnily enough. Gramps still gave me the deed though since he liked me more. Me and Gerald... Have had a tumultuous relationship. Maybe this is my chance to fix it? He's also formerly in the military, so if anyone can handle farm life it would be him... Lots of physical activity. But he could also make my life a pain if we start having different ideas for the Farm lifestyle. Guess it depends if I want to fix our troubles or not.
Miranda
My first cousin on my Mother's side. She's... Well she was always nice to me whenever we met. She's a very generous soul who wants to help everyone whenever possible. Believes a little too much in the spiritual and magic world for my liking though. At least I know she's also good at taking care of animals at the local shelter though, and charity whenever possible. She's mentioned something about waiting for destiny to send her wherever she's needed. Perhaps that's going with me to Stardew Valley?
Franklin
Dad's younger brother, and my Uncle. He actually used to live in Stardew for awhile on the farm before he said he wanted to try the city life like Dad. Unfortunately he never found true happiness or a partner to settle down with, so perhaps taking him back would be for the best? Then again, he might have some interesting relationships with some of the older towns folk there, some unpleasant. But he did used to say he was excellent with Mining and Lumberjacking, so I think he'll be an excellent help as well.
Cynthia
My childhood friend. We used to do everything together, and I hold many pleasant memories in my heart. We've had to talk less and less because of how life has been, but I keep in touch no matter what. Surprised she never found a boyfriend though. I think she'd jump at the chance to move to the countryside, gardening was always something she enjoyed and Farming is just that but bigger. A chance to reconnect with her after this horrid chapter in my life.
Now, I'll have to think long and hard on who to choose... I'm thinking-
"Damnit Jaune we don't pay you to daydream, get back to work!" I startle at my boss screaming in my ear. Crap, I got caught having independent thoughts at work again. Oh well, I'll finish today to earn the final paycheck and get my two weeks notice in. In the meantime, time to get typing again.
Just think about the future, Jaune... It'll be better soon.
Decide your fate! Choose your companions for this journey with Jaune. Pick three to begin your adventure!
