Chapter Text
The Circus was in chaos, the costumes weren’t done yet and one of the dogs had broken a puppet. Tiff was searching for Spige everywhere and eventually found him talking to the ticket vendor, Nicolai.
Spige noticed her stomping towards them and his mouths grinned, “Why hello, Tiff! What service can I do for you today?” his voices echoed together. She glared, “Fix the mess that’s going on around us!” she practically growled at Spige as he laughed and dismissed Nicolai.
“Come dear, take a walk with me.” Much to her protests he wrapped his arm around her a led her to the exit of the big tent, on the way out she saw Courtney flash her a curious look and she looked at her pleading for help.
“Why isn’t this such a lovely little town? Come, let’s go explore a little.” He said cheerily. she grumbled and tried to shrug his arm off her shoulder but he had a tight hold on her.
Tiff hated how people looked at them as they walked through town. She only contained her anger because she saw how the little kids would look at them with awe… and with fear.
Tiff grumbled and crossed her arms as they left the circus and walked into the local town.
And just like clockwork, the townsfolk screamed, dropped their belongings, and ran for the hills. Tiff looked away in anger… and a little bit in shame.
“What’s wrong my dear? Y’know you’re never fully dressed without a smile!”
Spige smiled and elbows her in the shoulder, which only rose her irritation.
”What’s wrong? What’s wrong is our circus is doing shitty! We either scare or bore people to death…” She grumbled with disdain. Spige’s mouths frowned slightly before he put on his cheerful exterior again.
“Oh silly little Tiff! Don’t you know? Our circus isn’t for the audience, it’s for the entertainers. Like you said people are scared of us. Imagine how all of our friends must have felt at their old towns before they came to us. We are a shelter for people like us and just so happen to make a little of money off of it.” He rambled as the crossed the streets. People stared from distances and out of the corner of Tiff’s eyes, she saw a little boy in the alley who was closer than the rest.
the little boy in ratty clothes walked forward and Spige noticed him too, “Why hello there, my fine fellow! How are you today?”
The boy ignored the question, “Is it true you take in rejects?”
“Yes!” Spige boasted as Tiff studied the boy, his curly unruly hair made her eyes twitch a little.
“Will you…take me in?”
Before Spige could even answer, Tiff cut in, “In what way is a little human boy like you, a reject?”
The boys eyes shifted nervously and before he could speak, Spige interrupted, “None of that now, Tiff. The little fellow will tell us on his own time. In the mean time he can stay with us. We take in all rejects, even humans.”
The boy’s eyes lit up, “Thank you sir! My name is Minime! I’ll help around the circus in anyway I can!”
“How enthusiastic! Nice to meet you, Minime. I’m Spige and this grumpy clown is Tiff!” She crossed her arms and looked away annoyed.
“Come, i’ll show you around the circus.” Spige spinned around and walked back to the giant tent in the distance with an excited boy chasing after followed by a pissed girl dragging behind them.
Spige gave the grand tour of the circus to Minime and Tiff left after a while to go talk to Courtney.
Finally they got to a a caravan that was painted with vertical black and white stripes. There were hand painted circus snacks around the bottom such as peanuts and popcorn. Around the roof of the caravan there were small clay charms hanging like windchimes in the shape of the circus snacks. After a minute of letting Minime observe the Caravan, Spige spoke, “This is where you’ll be staying! Your roommate is lovely!”
“Roommate…?”
“Roommate!”
Suddenly a short girl emerged from the caravan. Her long blond orange hair covered her eyes and she had giant fox ears. “What’s all the racket?” Then she turned and saw Minime. She barred her teeth in a challenging way and growled out, “And who is he?”
