Work Text:
When you dream there are moments, between falling asleep and waking up, where you can control everything. You are magic, or a storybook character, or finally caught up on laundry and have free time. Then there are those moments where, even though you know you are dreaming, things go wrong. Maybe you started thinking and your thoughts got away from you, maybe you were planning out things for a worst-case scenario, but either way it spirals out of your control. No longer are you in charge of your dreams, you are subject to them.
A blessing. A curse.
A part of the Human Condition.
Regardless, it is very annoying.
Or so thought Hizashi as they finally tore themself out from under the blankets to get ready for the day.
It's days like this where they are so grateful for Shouta. Everything was heavy, but he set out a cup of coffee. He isn't a morning person, so if the loud blond isn't being loud then there is blissful silence. And when that silence becomes suffocating in the blink of an eye? Well, no one mentions how Shouta turns on some music.
Yeah, they're grateful for Shouta.

Sometimes, when Shouta was on his way home from patrol, he would stop on the roof. It was always still dark out, and the wind surrounding him felt freeing. Like when he was swinging with his scarf, or jumping and running throughout the city, he felt at peace. Sometimes he recognizes the change in thoughts and heads inside right away. Sometimes he recognizes the change in thoughts and stares out into the city. Sometimes he doesn't recognize the change in thoughts, and his feet shift ever so slightly of their own accord.
Sometimes, he spends so long standing there that he watches the sunrise. On those days he knows how much he loves Hizashi, because they come and sit with him. He knows how much he loves Zashi when they come outside, before the sun starts to rise, and gently take his hand and pull him inside with them. He knows how much he loves Zashi, when even though he stood out on the roof for an hour after patrol, there is a warm pot of coffee when he comes inside.
He loves Hizashi.
~~~
They are both a bit broken. They both have flaws, and triggers, and bad days. But they both have each other, and for now? That's reason enough to keep going. To get out of bed in the morning. To go inside.
Yeah.
That's enough.
