Always and Forever
“So, this is it then?”
“Guess so.”
“No jitters, any regrets?”
“Oh, jitters for sure. But regrets? Never.”
Wolffe was being a bit of a pest while poking into Cody’s psyche with his constant yammering about the upon coming event. The major event in Cody’s life for sure! The questions Wolffe had been throwing up in the air simply trying to make sure Cody was on the up and up. After all, Rex was Wolffe’s best friend in the galaxy, him only wanting to make sure, now that Cody was back, that he really was back. And not getting cold feet suddenly while doing the right thing. Finally!
“But, you should know that by now, Wolffe.”
Cody could not help the chuckle, the loyalties certainly having changed in the past few years. But could Cody really blame Wolffe? True, they had both served the Empire while Rex had not. But Wolffe and Rex had become bestest of friends ever since joining Rex’s Cause sooner than Cody had.
Wolffe stared at his old friend for a spell, before a crooked grin formed on his face. Of course it was mostly done in jest, they both knew that. But there was some, concern beneath all those jabs just the same.
“I do know Codes, simply making sure you know it as well.” Wolffe then chuckled.
“I assure you my friend, if there is anything I have ever been more sure of in my life, it is this.”
Cody checked himself in the mirror for the umpteenth time in a the last hour.
The dress uniform having been dug up from safekeeping clinging on him, having needed some modifications as Cody wasn’t the same size he had been while serving the Republic, the Empire not really putting much stock in their troopers being, well, stocky, muscular. Alas, that was the something old. The borrowed and blue present there too. But more importantly, the tiny box securely on the shelf right beside the mirror awaiting to be… delivered.
“Ready?” Wolffe asked, adjusting his own slightly stiff feeling collar.
“Ready.”

Rex was checking the surroundings nervously.
His friends, his family, all there. The lot of them present for this very special occasion. And they were all looking at him. Rex feeling their gazes, starting to get all fidgety and nervous. The starkness of the uniform not making him feel any better that much was true.
This was it after all. The moment he, among others, had been waiting for a while now.
So why the kark did Rex feel so nervous? He wasn’t having second or third thoughts after all. No, Rex wanted this. There were no regrets. At all. So why did he feel like he was standing there all naked while having been caught right in the middle of something not really for the public’s eyes?
Just as Rex managed to wipe off the errant sweat droplets, he heard the doors to the common room opening and then, the tunes hitting the air. The melody rather soothing. It was something they both liked, him and Cody. One of their favourites. And that is why they had chosen it. For their special event.
Rex glanced towards the entrance, seeing Cody standing there with Wolffe.
Both of them were looking mighty sharp in their dress uniforms. Only Cody was the best looking of the two. At least in Rex’s eyes. His insides melting slightly as Rex watched Cody approach him, the altar, in a rhythmic stride to the music.
As this was the day.
Their day. For Cody and Rex to finally make the plunge. To take their vows to each other.
Cody and Wolffe had reached Rex, who was standing right by Gregor and Echo. Rex’s two best men while Wolffe was Cody’s.
As the loving couple’s gazes met, the loving smiles on their faces a dead giveaway, that this, was what they wanted to do. No doubt about it if there ever had been.
To make things official, finally, in front of their friends, their family. To become, Cody and Rex. A couple of, well, married people? Not that they had not really been all that. A couple, now and before, perhaps even during all the hardship?
But this, this was a promise of, forever. The vows to be taken in front of all the witnesses gathered there. And so, it was just to say the things they wanted to out loud.
“Do you Cody…”
“And do you, Rex…”
The questions placed by their minister, Ahsoka Tano having come specially for the ceremony to administrate the bonding of her two great friends.
“Always and forever, my dear Cody.”
“For all eternity, my dear darling Rex.”
