Work Text:
Jaylah always knew she liked women, but it took her a while to warm up to Gaila. She was somber and brooding, while Gaila was bubbly and bright. For a long time, Jaylah didn’t have any friends other than Montgomery Scotty, who occasionally came to visit her in Starfleet Academy. But after Gaila told her she’d grown up enslaved and barely survived Nero’s attack on Vulcan, she realized they were both hiding pain. Jaylah was still trying to heal from what Krall had done to her. On most days, she was fine, but sometimes, her anger was so strong she felt sick with it. Somehow, Gaila was able to say or do something to make her laugh and forget the pain, just for a little while.
Neither of them had a home other than Starfleet Academy. So maybe, Jaylah thought, they could be each other’s home. They both liked computers, engineering, and playing loud music. And soon, Jaylah realized she was deeply in love with her.
