Work Text:

“Have you submitted those reports I asked for?”

Seokjin jumps in his seat, startled out of his daydream. He looks up to see his manager, Jungkook, glaring down at him. Seokjin fixes his glasses, sucking in a breath to try and calm himself.

“Yes, Jungkook-ssi… I sent an email and I had a physical copy dropped off at your desk,” Seokjin bows his head as he speaks. Jungkook hums in response before turning on his heel, heading into his office without another word. Seokjin rolls his eyes and turns back to his desk.

He was fairly new in the company, at least in comparison to the others in his team, but he wasn’t established enough to get his boss off his back. This means that his work is met with an extremely critical eye, and even more critical feedback. His boss, Jeon Jungkook, wasn’t necessarily mean per say. He was simply a perfectionist with a need to prove himself, especially with how young he was for a department head. But Seokjin was diligent, if not a little scatterbrained. He was too busy imagining his days off spent gaming for 14 hours straight to get his work done quickly, but it gets done regardless!

“Hyung, are you doing anything tonight? We’re going out for drinks after work!” Hoseok, one of his favorite coworkers, spoke up from beside him. Seokjin sighs, looking through his phone calendar, trying to stall from answering.

“I’m sorry, Hoseok-ie,” he answers with a pout, “I have plans tonight.”

“Hyung, I know you’re lying,” Hoseok answers with a pointed look, “everytime you say you have plans, you end up getting drunk and posting on your Insta story. How many times have you gotten drunk and played video games alone?”

“How do you know I’m alone, huh?” Seokjin replies quickly while turning his back to Hoseok. He’s a good liar, but he knows his red ears give him away immediately. “What if I have a gentleman caller that wants to remain anonymous?”

Hoseok doesn’t believe him at all, if the unimpressed look he gets is anything to go by. Instead he sighs and pulls out his phone.

“Even Jungkook-ssi is going out, hyung! You have to come! I’ll text you the address, if we don’t see you there I’ll be so disappointed,” Hoseok finishes with a pout. Seokjin is weak for his friend, so he accepts the invite and mourns the loss of his time with Maple Story.

“Seokjin-ssi,” Jungkook’s voice calls out from his office. Seokjin is once again startled, and he hears Hoseok giggling from his desk. He shoots him a glare before hurrying to Jungkook’s office.

“Yes?” Seokjin’s voice is stilted, feeling stifled from being in a room alone with his boss. Jungkook sets the stack of papers he’s holding down on his desk, and Seokjin recognizes them as the report he turned in that morning.

“Did you have anyone help with these reports? Or had them revised by anyone else?” Jungkook looks up at him with a blank face, neither happy nor disappointed with the work. Seokjin hesitates to answer, not knowing what it is Jungkook wants to hear.

“I worked on them alone, and I had some of the team members look over them before I submitted,” he responds. Jungkook only raises a brow before nodding.

“They look good, thank you,” Jungkook begins typing on his computer, and Seokjin takes it as a dismissal. He bows and steps out the room, entirely confused by the interaction. Did Jungkook really only call him into his office to say his reports look good?

-

“Are you ordering lunch?”

Seokjin jumps in his seat, launching his phone away. He looks over to see Jungkook again, reaching down to pick up his phone.

“Ah! You don’t need to-”

“Oh, you’re going out tonight as well?” Jungkook says, handing the phone back to Seokjin. Seokjin blushes furiously, bowing his head. Truthfully, he had been on a dating app, swiping aimlessly through alphas in an attempt to find a partner for his heat. The app must’ve swiped out when Seokjin threw it, opening to a new text Hoseok had sent with the address for that night’s hangout.

“I am. Usually I’m not one for drinks, especially after work, but Hoseok-ssi can be very… persuasive,” Seokjin answers. Jungkook only nods, looking around the office awkwardly. “Um… you’re going too, right?”

Another nod, and Jungkook pulls his phone out. He types something in quickly before he pockets it again, looking back at Seokjin. He’s about to speak again when the elevator dings and a delivery man steps out, looking around. He spots Jungkook and walks over, holding out two large bags.

“Delivery for Jeon Jungkook-ssi?” Jungkooks bows as he takes the bags, and the delivery person walks away.

“I got too much food,” Jungkook says, looking back at Seokjin. “I was asking if you had ordered food already to see if you wanted the rest.”

“Oh!” Seokjin is genuinely surprised, he had never seen Jungkook eat in the office, usually he would have one of the secretaries make a lunch reservation so he can step out for an hour or two. He takes one of the bags Jungkook holds out for him, and bows. “Thank you, sir. I was actually going to skip lunch today.”

Jungkook frowns as he goes through his own bag, pulling out a can of soda. He sets it on Seokjin’s desk delicately, and he looks directly at Seokjin again.

“You shouldn’t skip lunch. It’s unhealthy, especially if you’re going out drinking later,” Jungkook says. He bows his head slightly before turning on his heel, heading straight to his office. Seokjin is once again left confused, before opening the bag.

It’s his favorite.

-

“Are you taking the bus?”

Seokjin doesn’t jump this time. He almost expects Jungkook to sneak up on him as he packs up for the day. Hoseok sneaks a glance, but Seokjin only shakes his head slightly, signaling he doesn’t need him to interject.

“I was planning on taking the bus, yes. Is there an issue?” Seokjin doesn’t like not understanding Jungkook. He doesn’t understand why he keeps popping up, much less with trivial questions that have nothing to do with work. It’s not new at all, even when he started Jungkook would ask questions like that nonchalantly, but Seokjin would always chalk it up to the man being terrible at small talk. Today had been different, he had never bothered Seokjin more than once a day. Was there something wrong with him?

“I was going to offer a ride, but…” Jungkook falters looking between Seokjin and Hoseok. Hoseok takes that as a cue to step in, rising from his seat.

“Don’t worry, Jungkook-ssi, a bunch of us are commuting together so no one will go alone!” Hoseok motions for Seokjin to stand too, taking his backpack out of his hands. Seokjin shuts off his computer and stands to his feet too, bowing at Jungkook.

“I suppose we’ll see you there, sir?” Seokjin asks, watching as Jungkook rubs the back of his neck. “We’ll get going, see you soon.”

With that, both he and Hoseok turn and join the gaggle of people waiting for the elevator, squeezing in. As the elevator doors close, Seokjin’s stomach drops at the look of disappointment on Jungkook’s face, and he thinks maybe he should’ve accepted his offer.

-

“This is why I don’t like going out!” Seokjin is screaming over the music and his coworker’s equally loud hollering. Hoseok laughs loudly, stumbling and spilling his drink in the process. “Hobi! Watch your drink!”

Seokjin isn’t nearly drunk enough to deal with his rambunctious crew, still sipping on his first beer of the night. It had almost gone warm after almost an hour of being held in Seokjin’s hands. Truth be told, he wasn’t in the mood to drink, especially after waiting for Jungkook to show up. He still hadn’t arrived as all his coworkers laughed at the idea of The Jeon Jungkook, stick in the ass and stick in the mud, going out drinking with his subordinates. Seokjin hadn’t laughed along, shifting uncomfortably as his fellow subordinates took shots for every time they had wanted to punch their boss in the last week. It was bothering him deeply, and Hoseok had taken notice quickly. He tried changing the subject, directing the conversation to the new gossip from the HR department. Seokjin shot him a smile, thankful that his friend was amazing at picking up his emotions and knowing how to deal with it.

He was about to let Hoseok know he was calling it a night when a hush fell over the group, before quickly picking back up, noticeably more tense. Seokjin looks over at the entrance and sees Jungkook standing awkwardly, bowing at everyone before spotting Seokjin and Hoseok and making his way over. Seokjin chugs his beer, grimacing at the temperature and wishing he had gotten a little more tipsy.

“Hi,” Jungkook says, more reserved than usual. Both Hoseok and Seokjin greet him in return. Hoseok excuses himself, stumbling again as he walks away. Seokjin smiles before waving over a worker to order a drink for both he and Jungkook. “How many drinks have you had already?”

“Oh,” Seokjin says, blushing a little. He can barely hear Jungkook over the music and the chaos, so he pulls his seat a little closer to Jungkook. “Honestly I’ve only had one drink, I was waiting for you.”

It’s Jungkook’s turn to blush, his mouth forming a little ‘o’. Seokjin doesn’t have a chance to clear up what he meant when the worker comes up, asking what they would like to order.

“Can we do two of your house beers and two bottles of soju?” Seokjin asks quickly. The worker nods before stepping away again. Jungkook is still sitting shocked, and Seokjin clears his throat. “I uh… I didn’t think it would be fun to sit around a bunch of drunks while you’re still sober…”

“Oh right… of course…” Jungkook’s voice is neutral, and they both sit without speaking as they wait for their drinks. When they do arrive, Seokjin holds his own glass up, asking Jungkook to cheers. With a grin, they both chug their drinks before cracking open the soju.

As the night progresses, Seokjin can feel himself becoming less and less stiff. He’s laughing at the antics of his coworkers, but Jungkook stays beside him the entire night. He’s getting drunk quickly as well, joking around with everyone and even joining in on the karaoke machine. Everyone is silent as he sings, surprising everyone with a sweet melodic voice. He seems to be hypnotized as he sings, not paying attention to the crowd around him as he hits notes perfectly. He sings two songs before he tries to step away with a blush, breathing heavily as everyone chants “One more song! One more song!”. Seokjin joins in, enjoying seeing Jungkook so loose. Jungkook laughs as he picks another track, a poppy song by a girl group Seokjin loves. Jungkook does the choreo as he sings, prompting more whooping and hollering from everyone.

After three rounds of “one more song!” Jungkook finally steps down from the small stage, and everyone slaps his back as he makes his way back to Seokjin, complimenting him on his singing and dancing.

When he finally gets to Seokjin again, Hoseok rushes him into a side hug, asking if he would ever be interested in joining him for one of his dance classes.

“You’re a natural, Jungkook-ssi! I bet you pick up choreo pretty quick, huh?” Jungkook has a flush on his cheeks, and Seokjin can’t tell if it’s from the praise or from the alcohol. “My students would go nuts if you beat them at learning our steps as a first timer.”

“I didn’t know you taught dance, hyung,” Jungkook says. His eyes go wide as he realizes what he said, quickly apologizing for being informal.

“Ah that’s okay, Jungkook-ie,” Hoseok replies with a grin. “I would love to be a hyung for you!”

Hoseok walks away with that, going to join a group taking more shots. Seokjin laughs as he watches him stumble through the throngs of people, before turning back to Jungkook.

“I got you another drink,” Seokjin hands another glass of beer out to Jungkook, who takes it gratefully. “You were amazing up there.”

“Thank you, Seokjin-ssi, I hadn’t actually performed in front of an audience in a while,” Jungkook chugs his drink, slamming down the glass as he finishes in record time. “It felt good to sing again.”

“Oh, you used to be a performer?” Seokjin finishes his own drink, waving over the employee to pay his tab.

“No, I got it,” Jungkook reaches over Seokjin to place his own credit card on the bar, and Seokjin blushes as Jungkook’s scent hits him. It’s faint compared to the smell of beer, but it’s noticeable at such a close distance. When Jungkook pulls back slightly, their face to face, lips inches from meeting. Seokjin is tempted to press their lips together when Jungkook steps back, almost as if burned. They stare at each other for a moment before Jungkook grabs his card back. He begins to walk away before he looks back at Seokjin, motioning to join him, and steps out of the room. Seokjin rushes to gather his things, thanking the employees, and goes to find Hoseok. He lets him know he’s leaving, and Hoseok winks at him before pulling him into a hug.

“Go get your alpha,” he laughs loudly, prompting everyone around him to holler and take more shots. Seokjin rolls his eyes as he makes his way out, finally stepping out into the crisp night air. He sucks in some breaths as he tries to steady himself, the alcohol causing him to sway slightly.

“Would you like a ride home?” Jungkook calls out, standing of to the side. He’s got his jacket in his arms and his dress shirt sleeves rolled up. As Seokjin steps closer, he can see the tattoo sleeve covering his forearm. “Oh… I guess you’ve never seen it, huh?”

“No… no I haven’t. They’re gorgeous,” Seokjin says, reaching out to touch. The alcohol is completely messing with his impulse control, but not enough to touch him without permission. “Can I-”

“Go ahead,” Jungkook responds, pulling his sleeve up further to reveal even more inked skin. Seokjin feels hot thinking of just how much of his skin is covered in art, wanting to run his hands over all the different images but instead opting to simply grab his hand to turn his arm over. As he fawns over the tattoos, he can feel Jungkook’s gaze burning into him. “No one knows I have them, it’s a hassle trying to keep them covered.”

“They’re sexy,” Seokjin states. It takes a second for his brain to catch up to his mouth, but when it does he immediately begins to apologize. Jungkook only laughs in response.

“Thank you, Seokjin-ssi, they mean a lot to me,” Jungkook continues to giggle as Seokjin steps back.

“You can call me hyung too if you want,” Seokjin murmurs, looking down at his feet. He doesn’t see the way Jungkook smiles at him.

“Okay, hyung. You didn’t answer, did you want a ride home?” Seokjin looks up at him and shakes his head. He feels the guilt in his stomach again as Jungkook’s face drops.

“No I don’t- I mean we’re both drunk, neither of us should be driving. We can take the bus together, though.” Jungkook giggles as he pulls out his phone.

“Hyung, I’m not stupid,” Seokjin narrows his eyes as Jungkook continues giggling. “I had a driver drop me off, he can come pick us up.”

“Ohh.. in that case I would love a ride. I think if I have to be pressed up next to other drunks on the bus I might hurl,” Seokjin replies with a huff. Jungkook laughs before typing out a message, pocketing it and leaning on the wall behind him. Seokjin joins him.

“Not me though, right?” Jungkook bumps him with his shoulder. Seokjin dramatically sways before bumping him back. “You wouldn’t mind being pressed up against me, right?”

Seokjin hums in thought before he looks over at Jungkook. There’s a soft blue light coming from over them, and Seokjin thinks he looks like a celebrity standing there, perfect and beautiful in the night. The alcohol seems to still be causing a blush on his cheeks, and Seokjin reaches his hand out to touch his cheek. He hesitates, still not wanting to touch without permission, but Jungkook is quick to press his cheek against Seokjin’s palm.

“I don’t mind when it’s you, Jungkook-ah.”

-

The ride back to Seokjin’s is uneventful. There’s some waterbottles stocked in the back- Jungkook had some foresight and knew he would not be coming home sober- and they held hands as they took turns sipping. When they arrived at Seokjin’s, Jungkook had stepped out to open the door for him. The eldest took the hand offered and looked him directly in the eyes. There were no words spoken, but there was an agreement between the two. Jungkook looked to the driver, gave a nod, and followed Seokjin up to his apartment as the driver pulled away.

“I’m sorry it’s not much, I wasn’t expecting company today,” Seokjin apologized as he opened his door. It’s not that he’s dirty, but he doesn’t mind a bit of clutter in his space. “Would you like anything to drink? Some snacks?”

Jungkook asks for more water as he looks around Seokjin’s living room, making Seokjin feel shy. He feels naked, watching Jungkook inspect his home with curiosity. He blushes as Jungkook picks up one of his plushies, a cute alpaca he has on his couch.

“He’s cute,” Jungkook says, pulling and pushing the plushie at the sides.

“Hey! Don’t hurt RJ!” Seokjin rushes to pull the plushie out of his hands, pressing him against his chest to fluff him up again. “He’s my son and he deserves respect.”

Jungkook collapses on the couch with a laugh, pulling Seokjin down with him. They wrestle with the plush, gently tugging it away from the other before Jungkook finally throws it across the room, flipping both of them so Seokjin is laying on the couch with Jungkook hovering over him. Their breathing becomes heavy, and Seokjin becomes aware of Jungkook’s scent.

Without the mask of all the beer and liquor, the alpha’s scent is far richer, the floral notes wrapping around Seokjin’s own sweet pear scent. Seokjin starts to feel dizzy, wanting nothing more than to reach up and press his lips against Jungkook’s. There’s a beat of silence as the two breath each other’s scent in before Jungkook pulls away, straddling Seokjin.

“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be pushy,” Jungkook says, visibly nervous. He gets off Seokjin’s lap, sitting on the floor. Seokjin sits up, debating whether or not to pet Jungkook’s hair. “I-... I’m sorry if I’ve made you uncomfortable at all. I’ve never… well I’ve never pursued anyone.”

“What?!” Seokjin is immediately sobered up, and it’s Jungkook’s turn to be startled. “You’re a virgin?!”

“No! No no! I just mean I’ve never dated,” Jungkook stammers. Seokjin sighs out in relief, happy he won’t have to spend the night walking Jungkook through the ins and outs. “In school people would come to me and ask to spend their heats with me, but I never wanted to be in a relationship before.”

Seokjin blushes at the realization that Jungkook had feelings for him, but one thing was still confusing him.

“Is that why you gave me such a hard time at work?” Jungkook looks at him confused, and Seokjin has to hold back a laugh. “Don’t act like you don’t know! You’re constantly critiquing my work!”

“Oh… no you just suck at data compartmentalizing, hyung. That has nothing to do with it,” Jungkook says, and by his tone Seokjin is able to tell he’s being dead serious. Seokjin scoffs before using one of the couch cushions to smack him. Jungkook laughs before grabbing his arm, holding it back.

“I’m serious, hyung. I really do have feelings for you, but I don’t want you to feel pressured into being with me.”

Seokjin takes a moment to think about the situation. Would he be fired for being in a relationship with his boss? Would Jungkook face disciplinary actions for starting a relationship with someone who works under him? It takes a moment before Seokjin responds, pulling Jungkook back up to hover over him on the couch.

“As long as you stay off my ass at work, I would love to be yours and have you be mine.” He pulls Jungkook down into a kiss, immediately falling for Jungkook deeper with the little whine that escapes the alpha’s mouth.

Between the soju flavored kisses, the two begin to learn each other.
