Chapter Text
"Good soldiers follow orders...."
The phrase would have been enough to pull Kala from her holonovel, but Tapper jumping up and grabbing his blaster scared her out of her wits.
"What?"
The clone captain grabbed his head as if he were in pain, causing the senator to tentatively reach out. But her hand was pushed away and a blaster was trained on her.
"Get—agh—get the General....and the commander....away from us...get them safe-"
Kala was frozen. "Tapper what is going on?"
"Just-" his voice cut off by another wave of pain, "-go!"
The blaster clattered to the floor and she grabbed it, running to where she knew General Jura and her Padawan Commander to be. As she bolted through the ship, it dawned on her. Fives. The chips. The plot to kill Jedi.
"General!" Kala breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the red headed Jedi wielding her lightsaber, but her heart plunged when she saw Reglin slumped in a corner.
As if reading the Senator's mind, Ruth cleared her throat.
"He's asleep. I figured with what we know from our friend Fives, things could get interesting. I've got a plan."
Kala nodded numbly.
"Lure the boys into the medbay one by one. Between Agria and I, we should be able to put them to sleep using the force."
Kala held up Tapper's Deecee. "What about a blaster set to stun?"
The Jedi grit her teeth. "It's risky, but it'll be a good backup. We have five chips to remove and hardly enough time."
So they waited in the medbay, knowing that eventually the troopers would resort to look there. A Jedi stood on either side of the door, ready to subdue the clones as soon as they stepped inside.
Kala hated it.
Her husband, her brothers. They acted strange. They had to be hurt. They each looked dead on the operating table.
But it was over as soon as it began.
There were reports of Jedi masters being slaughtered by their own troops.
Order 66
The Republic had fallen, and become an empire.
Everything felt like a blur. The Jedi Master and her padawan had taken a shuttle back to Coruscant. Hinge and Bex were the first to wake up, and it was then that Kala realized.
They were on their own.
