Chapter 1: On The Roof
Chapter Text
Up on the roof, Joel laid on the hard roof floor, tucked underneath a sleeping bag that did absolutely nothing to keep him warm. Emily was beside him, asleep, breathing slowly, tired from fixing Pegasus’ wing.
She looked pretty. Her auburn hair framed her face, strands attached to different freckles. He didn’t usually have crushes now, too angry for that sort of thing. Before the car wreck, in Italy, there was a girl but that, like everything else, ended when he moved to the States.
He pulled her blanket over her shoulders, getting protective, for no reason. After Pegasus left, they wouldn’t see each other again. He wasn’t about to screw up his plans for some girl he just met.
But she did look pretty.
Chapter 2: Lover Boy
Chapter Text
Joel was feeling far too many emotions than he would have liked, and none of them were important because he was on a mission to save Emily's father. So it made no sense that their kiss, Cupid's lips on hers, was on his mind. He knew she liked him. She ogled him every chance she got.
His stomach twisted. He could barf. But Cupid was next to him now, walking confidently and smug, probably knowing. Probably happy about it. He didn't like her. He was using her, to get a rise out of Paelen. Paelen liked her too. No. Paelen liked her only. Emily was nothing more than a friend. A pretty girl friend, who always somehow managed to smell like flowers.
"I will look for a better entrance. The two of you should stay here." Paelen said, using his powers to stretch thin and small, before moving far from them.
"I suppose you pulled me away from her for a reason." Cupid muttered, leaned against a gray wall. He looked just as punchable as he always did.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"He's not here. You don't have to keep it a secret from me."
He clenched his fist, then his jaw, "Would you shut up?"
"I think when we get to Olympus, I shall take her to the beautiful lakeside with the orchards and pink trees. The two of you won't be there so I can kiss her for as long as I would like."
He was going to kill him, and this whole mission was going to fall apart. Joel breathed harshly, then straightened his posture, "We're in the middle of something if you hadn't noticed. Focus on that."
"Hm. I do not know why I am worried. My competition is a human and a thief."
"Say what you want to say."
"I believe I did." And he left it at that.
