Work Text:
Jazz bit her lip looking over at Jason who was in the ecto-filtration bubble playing a thumb war with himself by linking his fingers together. She wasn’t worried she was interrupting something important.
As the right seemed to be dancing in victory she spoke, “Hood?”
Dropping his hands Jason turned his attention to her, “What’s up?”
“Does Gotham University accept non-gothamite psychology students?”
“You want to study... psychology… in Gotham.”
“Gotham University psychology graduates are some of the greatest psychologists in the nation with dealing with patients who have large numbers and, or extreme severity of traumas.”
“Well, that’s probably because they’ve experienced highly traumatic situations in Gotham. The other part is how fucked up the patients you’ll encounter are.”
“My home town has obsessive violent randomly appearing ghosts. My brother is a half ghost and lived in the house of ghost hunters that were actively hunting him. My brother is the Ghost King and he’s not even old enough to drink.”
“Wait pause, real quick, Danny is of age, right?”
“He’s twenty.”
“Alright. Gotham University doesn’t often accept outside applicants, cuts down on student turn over due to death but I can give you a recommendation as Red Hood and if you pass the psych exam to get, wait, you going for a masters or a doctorate?”
“Doctorate. Why?”
“There’s no psych exam for masters, just doctorate programs.”
“Why?”
“Most of our villains have doctorates. We’re trying to catch any new villains before they finish their doctorates. There’s a mandated psych exam every year. Don’t say you know about ghosts, say you know about ectoplasmic entities. I have those registered as a thing that exists now, but the examiner will probably get twitchy at the term ‘ghost’.”
Jazz blinked, “I would like the referral. Gotham is one of the few places in the world that has enough ectoplasm to support liminals like myself.”
“Liminals.”
“Somebody who isn’t a ghost but has enough ectoplasm in their system to be ghost like. Depending on the level of contamination, living in places without certain levels of ectoplasm can negatively affect their health.”
“Huh, maybe that’s part of the reason people never leave Gotham, at least not for long.”
“There’s a high likelihood of that being a factor.”
“Well, when you go to enter Gotham for the first time, call me first. Lady Gotham doesn’t really like outsiders but she likes me so if I introduce you she’ll treat you right.”
“Do you think you could do a general invite to Amity? Once people see me not returning every week to get the ectoplasmic contamination some people will probably follow.”
Jason hummed, “I can try, not sure how she’ll react but the Ghost King did and is healing a Bat so she’ll probably at least not be hostile.”
“Sounds good, now I just need to figure out how to afford it?”
“I’ll cover it, full ride plus living expenses.”
“I can’t just take your money!”
“Your brother is the only reason I’m sane and crime lording pays well. I’m probably going to buy you a house straight out, so you have a safe place to stay, and have room for your brother to stay if he doesn’t want to stay in the manor or one of my various safe houses.”
“Oh.”
“So, send your transcripts over and we’ll get you set up for the psych exam.”
