"Techno! Look! The sunset's the same colour as your hair!" The small boy pointed towards the setting sun, his eyes sparkling with wonder. The sky was ablaze with fiery pink, fading into soft pink hues and purples. The sun was a huge drop of gold, slowly sinking behind the horizon.
"So it is," Technoblade responded distractedly, he was brushing his finest horse, readying for the competition tomorrow.
Tommy, (seemingly annoyed at the lack of interest), tugged on the man's sleeve, gaining an eye roll and a futile attempt to hide a smile in return. He set his brush down, patting Carl gently. The horse neighed softly, enjoying the attention.
"Isn't the sky pretty, Techno?" Tommy asked, his voice full of awe and curiosity. He leaned against his brother's side, looking up at him with admiration.
"Sunsets are always pretty, Tommy," he ruffled his brother's hair, making him giggle. The comfortable silence settled, it was peaceful, watching the sun slip lower, orange hues mix into the pinks beautifully. The only noise being the crickets in the next field and Carl chewing on hay. All sounds seemed distant and muted in the evening It was like they were in their own little world.
The air was fresh and cool, carrying the scent of hay and grass, the stars slowly becoming more and more visible, Techno decided to name a few of the constellations he could see. He pointed at the sky with his finger, tracing the shapes of the stars.
"You see that one, Tommy? That's called the Corona Borealis, this is where-" Tommy gasped and clapped his hands.
"So that over there, must be the Big Dipper! Oh, I love the Big Dipper." He swung his arms, looking every bit the eight-year-old he was. The stars shone like small diamonds in the sky, creating a contrast with the warm colours of the sunset.
"Yes, Tommy, that's the Big Dipper, your favourite constellation." Techno smiled, remembering how Tommy had been fascinated, how he hung on Techno’s every word about the stars, ever since he was a toddler. He had taught him many of the the names and stories behind them.
"You remembered!" Tommy exclaimed, his face lighting up with joy. He charged towards his brother, wrapping his small arms around him tightly, making him grunt at the force.
"I always remember things that matter to me." Techno said softly, hugging him back. In Tommy's very high opinion, Techno gave the best hugs.
"Techno,” Tommy asked, “if you're the sky, what does that make me?" He tilted his head, curious about his answer. When they were closer, physically, the height difference was even more notable. Technoblade absolutely towered over him, but he never made him feel too small.
"You're the sun, Tommy." He carded his hand through the boy's hair, making him smile. He watched as the last rays of the sun disappeared behind the horizon, leaving a faint glow in the sky. "The shine of your hair rivals only the sun, you're the brightest thing in the sky, and you make everything better with your light." He said sincerely, meaning every word.
"I think we go pretty well together." Tommy said, snuggling closer to him. He rested his head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. Techno placed his arm across Tommy's shoulders, pulling him closer. He kissed the top of his head. He would be a liar if he said he didn't agree; the sun and the sky really were perfect together.
