Work Text:
I can't believe we're finally alone
I can't believe I almost went home
What are the chances? Everyone's dancing
And he's not with you (Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm)
Everything was so dim. The lights were low, and everything seemed like a blur. But it didn’t matter to Alex. He was only focused on one thing. Or rather, one person.
Henry Fox.
Henry Fox, the bane of Alex’s existence. There was always a constant rendition of Henry going on in some part of his brain. Henry was supposed to be a guy in his American Literature class. He turned out to be so much more.
He was now one of Alex’s best friends. Alex craved more. He needed it. He was dying without it. Henry was his oxygen and he needed copious amounts of him. Every breath, every laugh that Alex got from him, was a breath of fresh air for him.
All he could focus on was Henry Fox, standing in the middle of the dance floor at a club, arguing with his boyfriend.
His boyfriend, Max. Alex had never known hate the way he felt it for Max. Every fiber of Alex’s being was on blazing fire when he saw the two of them together. He couldn’t do anything about it though, now could he? He couldn’t lose Henry, in any way whatsoever. So, he just burned with jealousy every time.
Currently, Alex leaned on the bar, a whiskey in his hands, as he smirked while looking at the view. Henry, jabbed his fingers into the chest of his boyfriend, screaming as hard as he could.
Alex didn’t know what they were fighting about. He honestly couldn’t care less.
What surprised him though, was the fact that after the shouting match, Max decided to say fuck it, and left.
The universe must have divined this
What am I gonna do? Not grab your wrist?
I could be a better boyfriend than him
I could do the shit that he never did
Up all night, I won't quit
Thinking I'm gonna steal you from him
I could be such a gentleman
Plus all my clothes would fit
There he was, Henry Fox, in all his glory, standing alone. He looked ethereal. He was looking at the floor, his shoulders slumped, sadness evident. That made Alex furious.
Now normally, Alex would make sure Henry felt alright, and would’ve have made sure he got home safe. He would’ve been the perfect friend.
Tonight? Tonight, he had different plans.
Alex usually isn’t like this. When it comes to Henry, he never wants to risk it. Plays on the safe side. Tonight? Tonight, is different.
His friends are dancing away on the other side of the club, not one of them in sight. Maybe it’s this whiskey he’s been downing. That must be it.
Henry is still standing there, looking at the ceiling. People around him are dancing, but it’s like there’s a bubble of golden light surrounding Henry, and Alex can’t look away.
Tonight? Tonight, Alex gets Henry. No matter what goes wrong, he’ll still do it.
He puts his glass down, sauntering over to Henry, the song changing into something slow, sensuous.
As soon as he reaches Henry, he looks at Alex, a small smile on his face.
“What are you doing here?” Henry asks, but Alex says nothing, drinking in Henry’s appearance. Henry had come to the club straight from class, so he was wearing a soft blue sweater, a pair of pretty white pants, and his favorite sneakers.
Before Henry could ask again, Alex catches his wrist, and pulls at it with a little force. Henry, not expecting it, lets a surprised sound of his mouth, as he falls into Alex, hands on his chest.
His other arm snakes it’s way around Henry’s waist, as he pulls him close, their faces a few inches apart.
I don't need to tell you twice
All the ways hе can't suffice
If I could give you some advicе
I would leave with me tonight
The universe must have divined this (Mmm, mmm)
Ladies first, baby, I insist
“Hey sweetheart.” Alex whispers, his eyes never pulling away from Henry’s. He saw Henry gulp, his hands still on Alex’s chest.
“Hi.” Henry croaks as Alex releases his wrist, giving him plenty of time to get his hands off of Alex. Henry however, is frozen there.
Alex brings his other arm around his waist as well, pulling him in until their breaths ghost over each other’s face, slow yet desperate.
“Where’s your boyfriend?” Alex asks, already knowing the answer.
“He uh left.” Henry mutters, his arms coming around Alex’s neck, resting gently on his shoulders.
“Why?” He asks, trying his best not to smirk, looking as innocent as he could at this moment.
“We had a fight.” Henry answers simply, his eyes a little wide. Alex internally grinned, knowing he had that effect on Henry.
“Well, that’s a shame sweetheart. A guy like you, should never be left alone.” Alex smirks, as he hears a small whimper leave Henry’s plump red lips.
“Yeah?” Henry breathes, his eyes going wider, his breath catching in his throat.
“Oh yes, baby. Pretty guys are rare to find. Good thing you’re here.” Alex continues, his hands now resting on Henry’s lower back. He heard a catch in Henry’s breath, on hearing the ‘baby’, and Alex knew it was working.
As the music continues, Alex starts swaying with Henry, both of them still pressed against each other, breaths mingling, but nobody made a move to kiss. They both knew better. Cheating wasn’t something they wanted to be a part of.
Didn’t mean Alex couldn’t steal Henry though. Tonight was his night. In every aspect. Henry pressed flush against his chest, his blue eyes shimmering with the glow of lights from the club, his pink lips parted.
All Alex wanted to do was kiss them senseless. But he knew better. He’d just have to do it with words.
I could be a better boyfriend than him
I could do the shit that he never did
Up all night, I won't quit
Thinking I'm gonna steal you from him
I could be such a gentleman
Plus all my clothes would fit
I could be a better boyfriend than him
I could be a better boyfriend
As they swayed, they couldn’t keep their eyes off of each other’s faces. They were so transfixed, even blinking felt like wasting time. Both of them wide eyed, holding each other close.
Alex places his forehead against Henry’s, his eyes fluttering close at the contact. He could feel Henry’s breath quicken, and he couldn’t help the grin that took over his face. He has imagined this a million times, and the actual feeling of holding Henry so close, trumps any fantasy he’s come up with.
“What are you doing Alex?” Henry asks, breathless. His tone wasn’t accusatory, he wasn’t mad. His tone conveyed genuine curiosity.
Alex opened his eyes, looking into the blonde’s ocean blue ones. They were like ocean, so vast and so majestic that he couldn’t look away if he wanted.
“ Baby .” Was all Alex said, and this time Henry’s eyes fluttered close, as he dropped his forehead, against Alex’s shoulder, snuggling into his neck.
“ He left you alone sweetheart, what am I gonna do? Not grab your wrist? ” Alex whispered seductively, as he felt a shiver run down Henry’s spine, his words having the desired effect.
I never would have left you alone
Here on your own, glued to your phone
Never would have left you alone
For someone else to take you home
“What are you doing Alex?” Henry asked again, whispering into Alex’s ear. His tone pleading for Alex to give him a proper answer.
Alex turned his head a little, dropping a little kiss on Henry’s temple. Henry lifted his head from Alex’s shoulder, looking straight into his friend’s eyes, lips parted.
On their own accord, one of his hands find it’s place on the nape of Henry’s neck, the other gently placing itself on Henry’s cheek.
“Henry. You are so amazing. Everything about you is perfect. Your hair, your eyes, your love for Jane Austen. Everything. Nothing compares to you, sweetheart.” Alex says, a small smile gracing his lips.
They were standing so close, that even in the dim lights, he could see Henry’s cheeks colored with a light blush.
His thumb grazed against Henry’s jawline, wanting to leave a kiss there, but he controlled himself.
“He is an asshole. Even you know that, Hen. What do you even see in him?” Alex asked, as if it was rhetorical question. Henry let out a shuddered breath, his eyes closing, the veins on his eyes clearly visible.
“You are fucking exquisite, darling. You deserve so much. So, so much.” Alex continued, as he saw Henry’s eyes open once again.
“Really?” Henry asked, in a voice so small, Alex wanted to squeeze him to death. How could anyone treat this man less than the king he is? Alex wondered, dazzled by the ivory skin of the man in front of him.
“You deserve someone who knows what he has when he holds you. Who worships every inch of your skin in any way you’d like. Who spends every minute with you, knowing that he is the luckiest son of the bitch in world.” Alex says, his breaths staggering, as he saw Henry’s grin take over his face.
“I could be a better boyfriend than him, baby. I could do the shit he never did. I know what a great guy you are. And if it wasn’t obvious, I have been in love with you for as long as I can remember.” Alex finishes, breathless, a wild grin covering his face.
He was nervous, yet he knew he couldn’t stop now. He did what he had to do. It was all up to Henry now. The ball was in his court.
“What?” was all Henry could say, eyes blown wide at the confession.
“I love you, baby. I have for a while now.” Alex yells towards the club, a wide grin over his. He felt drunk, even though he only had two whiskeys, He wasn’t a lightweight either. He was drunk on love, he concludes.
He looks at Henry, and Henry pulls him close, their foreheads together.
“I’m gonna steal you from him sweetheart.” Alex smirks as he hears a whine, or maybe a moan, leave Henry’s lips.
Their breaths mingled, their lips an inch apart. A slight movement would help their lips touch, but they both knew not to.
Alex’s resolve was melting with every moving second. He lets go of Henry’s waist, taking a step back. Henry stumbles a little, his eyes snapping open.
“I can’t make you cheat. I won’t have you resent me for that. You mean too much to me. You think about it.” Was all Alex could say. He knew that if Henry wanted him, he’d approach Alex.
Henry said nothing. With every second Henry stood there, stupefied, Alex’s confidence slipped. Alex started realising the mistake he made, his breaths starting to quicken.
Alex took a quick step forward, placing a sweet kiss on Henry’s forehead.
“I love you.” Was all Alex could whisper, as he withdrew himself from Henry Fox’s magnetic field.
He turned around, and all but ran to the bar. There were so many people around, it was easy to blend. He went to the nearest drink station and asked for a water.
He did not want to be drunk right now. If Henry somehow miraculously found him, he wanted to be sober. If he was going to be rejected, he was going to take it properly.
Minutes passed, no signs of Henry. Alex’s hope crumbled, his head felt heavy with unshed tears.
I could be a better boyfriend than him
I could do the shit that he never did
Up all night, I won't quit
I'm gonna steal you from him
I could be such a gentleman
Plus you know my clothes would fit
I could be a better boyfriend than him
I could do the shit that he never did
Up all night, I won't quit
Thinking I'm gonna steal you from him
I could be such a gentleman
Plus all my clothes would fit
Alex decided to get some fresh air. Clear his mind. Try to undo the mistake. Maybe he could hide forever.
As he leaves the club, he sees the last person he wants to see.
Henry Fox.
Henry is on the phone, more specifically yelling at it. His back is facing Alex. Alex wants to leave unnoticed. He has a chance to. But for some reason, he’s glued to his spot.
“I am fucking done with you, you asshole.” Henry yells, as he quickly cut the call and shoves the phone in his pocket.
Henry turns around, and as soon as he sees Alex standing there, he stops. His expression turns to something soft, something warm.
Before Alex can register what’s going on, he feels Henry crash into him, Henry’s arms around Alex’s neck. He squeezes him tight, and Alex does the same.
Alex inhales, the smell of clean linen sheets filling his senses. They hold onto each other like that, not a care in the world.
Henry pulls back, as he litters Alex’s cheeks, forehead, jaw and nose with sweet kisses. Alex giggles under Henry’s touch, all his worries melting away.
“I love you so much, darling. More than anything. I have never loved anyone like I love you. Max was my way of moving on. He was shitty, but I so desperately wanted to move on. I was convinced you didn’t feel the same way.” Henry confessed, tears brimming in his clear blue eyes.
“How could I not be in love with you? You are everything that I need.” Alex whispered, as he swiped the tears off of his lover’s face.
“You said you’d steal me from him. I broke it off with him on the phone. But the truth is darling, I was always yours.” Henry smiled as he smashed his lips against Alex’s, both of them channeling all their passion into the kiss.
Their lips moved against each other’s, teeth clashing, but they couldn’t care less. Alex slipped his tongue into Henry’s mouth. He bit on his lower lip, and a sweet moan from Henry filled his ears.
After a few moments, they pulled apart out of breath, grins evident on their faces.
“I’m going to be a better boyfriend than him. I’ll be such a gentleman.” Alex grinned as Henry laughed and nodded.
“You’re already the best guy I know. I love you Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz.” Henry laughed as Alex pulled him into a hug, getting his happy ending.
