Work Text:

Just as he thought his day couldn’t get any worse, it did.

Akaashi seemed to have misplaced his luck when he went to bed the night before.

First he fell and twisted his ankle during morning volleyball practice, then he spilled his lunch all over his homework he was working on and got an F for failure to turn it in despite explaining he in fact did have it but he had ruined it, after that he had to sit out at practice because coach didn’t want his ankle to hurt more and he got hit in the face with a volleyball that had flown off course.

And finally, the worst one of all..he had forgotten his house keys when he left for school this morning and his parents are both on a business trip. He had no way to get into the house.

He was an only child so unfortunately he had no one else to let him into the house. The windows all had a small device that was connected to a house alarm. It was quite late at night because he went to the nurse to get his face checked out and he definitely didn’t want to wake up his neighbors and cause more trouble.

Poor Akaashi was already feeling exhausted but he didn’t want to sit on his front steps until school the next morning. He decided to walk around, it was better to move around unless he wanted to fall asleep on the grass.

The dark-haired boy tuned out his surroundings as he walked and before he knew it, he was in a familiar neighborhood.

Where a certain energetic upperclassman lived.

Akaashi decided it wouldn’t hurt to ask Bokuto if he could stay over, the older boy probably would rather he be there. The dark-haired boy knocked on the door and was met with a woman who he assumed to be Bokuto’s mother.

“Hello!” She exclaimed as she smiled warmly, he could see where his upperclassman got his personality from.

“Hello. I’m Koutarou’s kouhai.”

Bokuto’s mother turned and called for her son and not long after, Bokuto came around the corner. The dark-haired was hung up on the fact he called his upperclassman by his first name. It was strange but he wasn’t going to call him by his last name because everyone here had it.

“Akaashi!!”

The dual-haired boy ran up to him, trying to hug him “What brings you here?”

The dark-haired boy let the older boy hang off of him as he explained his situation “I got locked out of my house and my parents aren’t home.”

“You can just stay here! We’re about to have dinner! Come in Akaashi-Kun!” Bokuto’s mother said as she ushered him inside. Bokuto led him in and shut the door behind him.

“Sorry for the intrusion!”

“There’s no need for that! You’re welcome here, Kashi!”

Akaashi looked around the house, he had only been up to the door before so this was a new experience. The house was filled with pictures and miscellaneous objects that seemed to have either been from trips or maybe stuff Bokuto and his sisters made as children.

It was a total difference from the beige and dark colors of his house. At his house there were not many pictures on the walls, maybe a couple from when he was a child and a picture from his parents wedding. This house was more cozy compared to the cold and lonely house he was used to.

“Come sit down!”

Akaashi walked to the table and sat down next to his upperclassman, watching as the family interacted in front of him. He was served a plate and watched as they all thanked for their food

“Itadakimasu.” He said before gingerly taking a bite of the hot food, it was really good. He hadn’t realized how hungry he was until then. That’s right! He didn’t finish his lunch. He practically inhaled his food and was left satisfied.

“Have more Akaashi-Kun!” Bokuto’s mother

“I’m full, but thank you for the offer.” The dark-haired boy said as he picked up his plate

“Don’t worry about your dishes! Koutarou will get them.”

The dual-haired boy picked up his bowl and disappeared into the kitchen before rushing out “Come on! Let’s go upstairs!”

Akaashi followed his energetic friend upstairs and into a well lit room, there were three different lamps on and the big light as well. It hurt his eyes and blinded him for a moment.

“Is it necessary to have so many lights on?”

“The big light isn’t enough!”

“What are you doing that you need this many lights?”

Bokuto laughed, “I’m studying!”

The dark-haired boy stared at him for a moment "Be serious."

“I am being serious!”

Bokuto pulled a futon out of his closet and set it on the floor then threw a pair of shorts and a shirt onto the rolled up futon.

“You can borrow my extra school uniform tomorrow. That one seems a little..dirty.”

Akaashi looked down at his uniform and internally cringed, the remnants of his lunch was stained onto his blazer and pants.

“Thanks.” He said as he picked up the sleepwear.

“The bathroom’s down the hall to the right.”

The dark-haired boy followed the directions his upperclassman gave him and stared at himself in the mirror, there was a big bruise on his cheek. He hadn’t seen himself until now and was momentarily surprised before he remembered he was hit in the face with a volleyball.

By the time he was done changing, Bokuto had turned off most of the lights and set his futon up, he was about to thank him but was met with snores in response.

Akaashi laid down on the futon, curling up under the covers. He let out a small contented sigh as he let his body relax, he was happy to be in a warm place with a roof over his instead of on the streets. He turned to look at the ceiling before glancing over at the sleeping figure of his friend. He was going to treat him next time to show how much he appreciated his help.

The dark-haired boy let his thoughts drift as he slowly fell asleep.

His face may be bruised and his ankle was hard to walk on, but he slept soundly in the warm environment of Bokuto’s home. Near all the wonderful colors and the miscellaneous objects.

And you know what?

Tomorrow will be better.

Notes:

So Like I said in the summary, this is totally not based off of real life events (Sarcasm).

I got locked out of my house after going out with a friend and my dad was out. Luckily I was invited to my friends house and I ate dinner with their family. I had the urge to write about it afterwards.

This happened like a week ago so I've been procrastinating.

Thanks for reading!
