Red hair scattered in a tapestry of embers on the floor. Hubert paced toward it, each click of his heels on the stone whispering away to die in the empty hallowed space.
Soldier's red, midnight blue, winking silver. A laugh as bright and unselfconscious as a puppy, blundering out at the most inappropriate times.
A deplorable preference for tea, shining transparent sugared brown as morning sunlight danced across the surface and graceful fingers held the cup at a carelessly perfect angle.
Nothing would ever be the same again. Why couldn't the sun, rioting over that wild-spread hair, respect that?
