Work Text:
Being in separate organizations was the worst. Soon after saving the universe, Keith permanently joined the Blades and Lance stuck around the castle with Pidge, Hunk, and Shiro as local police. They still formed Voltron from time to time, but it wasn't as necessary as it used to be so they could all explore their own interests and return home whenever they pleased.
However, Lance and Keith could rarely find a time when they were both at the same place at the same time.
So, they took to borrowing each other's clothes in the time they were apart. It started as an accident, Keith had grabbed the wrong jacket on his way out of his room one day and hadn't had time to return it until after he got back from the Blades, returning to the castle.
He liked having the jacket when he couldn't have its owner, so he started stealing Lance's clothes right as he was about to leave for Mamora.
Lance noticed his missing clothes and decided to retaliate by taking one of Keith's sweaters or hoodies. They were the same size, despite Keith being a bit shorter—a fact Lance relentlessly bullied him for—, so they could swap clothes easily.
Keith likes having Lances clothes because it was the closest he could get to having his boyfriend with him at the Blades. Keith's clothes helped Lances sleep, keeping him calm and reminding him why he was fighting for the universe.
After they had established that they would be doing this before needing to be apart for a long time, people started to notice.
It started with Shiro. He knew Keith's wardrobe and also knew Lance's, so of course he would recognize when Keith was wearing something he didn't own.
Keith walked into Shiro's room, grabbing something he'd left there and shoving it in the bag he dragged between the castle and the Blades, and watched as his face lit up from his desk.
"Whose hoodie is that?" He asked, a knowing glint in his eye.
"...mine," Keith said hesitantly. He never lied to Shiro, but he didn't need to know this.
"You sure?"
"Yup."
Jason looked down at the blue hoodie. The plastic bits were chewed off the strings, a habit Lance had. The design in the middle was faded off from how much it had been worn. Lance clung to his earthly items until they were rags. Now, they could go back to earth whenever they wanted, but he still kept them close. The pocket was even messed up, with a big hole in the middle making it useless for holding anything other than cold hands.
Shiro looked skeptical but dropped the topic.
After Shiro, it was Hunk. He also knew Lance's wardrobe and did from the beginning. Since they were friends before Voltron, he easily recognized when Lance was wearing something belonging to Kieth.
"Where did you get that?" Hunk asked, already sitting at the table for breakfast. Pidge was rarely awake by morning, so Lance and Hunk had 'bonding' breakfasts.
Lance mentally cursed himself for forgetting to change out of the hoodie he'd fallen asleep in for breakfast. It was obviously not his, with a dark red color and something basketball-related he knew nothing about printed on the front.
"It's...mine," Keith lied, taking a bite of his lightly-burned toast.
"I'd believe you if it wasn't maroon. You hate wearing red, it's your least favorite clothing color."
"And? It was cheap. Got it on clearance."
"Is that why Keith has the same one?" Hunk asked jokingly.
Lance didn't want to look up and see Hunk's shit-eating grin. So, the blue paladin laughed lightly at his defeat and went back to eating his toast. Hunk wasn't satisfied, though.
"You think I don't know about you two? You're so obvious about it," Hunk said dramatically, chewing on his oatmeal.
"I wasn't hiding it," Lance said back, defeated.
"Sure. Is that why you turn your phone brightness down when you get a text."
"You're so nosy."
Suddenly, "Is that my hoodie?" broke up their bickering. Lance turned his head to see Keith standing by his table, his backpack slung over one shoulder.
Lance laughed. "Is that my hoodie?" He echoed, noticing the familiar faded design.
Keith put his backpack on the ground by the table before taking a seat by Lance. "Maybe."
Hunk groaned and made a gagging noise before finishing his oatmeal and walking to the sink, giving them some privacy.
Lance kissed Keith's cheek gently. Keith smiled intertwining their fingers under the table.
"I didn't know you were stealing my things," Keith laughed, examining Lance in his hoodie.
"I just missed you last night," Lance said, underestimating just how much Keith would tease him for that.
"Really?" Keith laughed, a familiar smile threatening to break on his lips.
"God shut up," Lance laughed back. "You're wearing my hoodie too, hypocrite."
Keith laughed, leaning on Lance a little.
"And? You love me, you can share."
"Yeah, yeah I do."
