It feels like the wind has been knocked out of her. It feels as though she’s been toppled over, landing with a heavy blow to her back that knocks the sputtering air from her lungs. Her mouth parts in disbelief. She feels diametric and dysregulated, a chill flooding her veins while sweat dews pitifully at her hairline. The wisps at the base of her neck stand at attention while her chest blossoms with heat. She’s frozen to the spot.
