Maureen

Summary:

The succubus Maureen just wants a calm night in a pub, but things never go the way she hoped.

Notes:

This is the first piece of a collection featuring Maureen. It came to be through a flash fic Friday prompt on Tumblr years ago and grew since then.

Work Text:

Everybody who knew Maureen would say she wasn’t the usual female demon. The most common phrase she heard throughout all her life was: ”You don’t have the fire in you for a demon.”
It started with her mother and ended with her last boyfriend.

Now she sat in this small town bar and drunk her worries away, or at least she tried it. The alcohol tolerance was high for demons, and at nights like this she hated it. The barkeeper already eyed her weird, and she started to consider finding a new bar. Her plan vanished into thin air when she felt the presence of another demon. With a sigh, she downed her beer and got up. There was no way she would mingle with one of her kind tonight.

“I know who you are.”, a voice hissed behind her.

So much for leaving before things get nasty.

“Leave me alone. I just want a drink.”

“The bottle is empty.”

With a sly smirk, the other demon moved next to her and revealed herself to be a youngling with short brown hair and porcelain complexion. The perfect little seductress, and Maureen hated her instantly.

“None of ya business, kiddo.”

She rose from her stool and showed her full six feet tall trained body. There was no way she survived multiple hundreds of years as a broken demon to flinch when a youngling with an ego bigger than earth came around.

“I am older than I look.”

“I don’t care. Go hunting in a different place. This one’s mine.”

Doll face smirked, self-sure, and pushed Maureen's shoulder. Next to them the barkeeper started to gather the empty glasses and bottles, obviously expecting a pub brawl. Maureen just rolled her neck and shoulders with a tired expression.

“Ya still a kiddo to me. Now go. I am not up for this bullshit tonight.”

A few of the male patrons openly stared at them. It was an easy guess what they were waiting for. Doll face looked around and realized her behavior drew too much attention to them, so she huffed and turned on her heels to leave.

With narrowed eyes, Maureen watched her leave and paid her bill once she was sure the other demon left. Expecting doll face to lurk around at the entrance, she took the backdoor and sneaked around the corner to get her car. There was no way she would leave her darling back.

The sight of her car was bittersweet, as she immediately saw the scratches that weren’t there when she entered the bar hours earlier.

“It stinks like you.”

“Should’ve known it was ya.”, Maureen turned around, annoyed to find herself face to face with doll face.

“I know who you are. Broken one.”

“Ok, listen dolly, I am not up for whatever bullshit ya planned, so leave me be and go ya own ways.”

Slowly, she forced doll face to move back into the dark alley.

“I won’t take orders from you. When was the last time you killed a human?”

With crossed arms, she pulled her chin up in a weird defensive stance that made Maureen laugh.

“Oh, kiddo, ya have no idea who you are talking to.”

“I know who you are. You are the broken succubus who has no fire in her rotten body.”

“Oh, ya think?”

A malicious smirk crept in Maureen’s face as she snapped her fingers on both hands and held two small fire orbs in her hands. Doll face stumbled backward in surprise.

“You shouldn’t...”

“… be able to do this? Oh bad news, dolly. Ya wanted to know how long it has been since I killed a human? I never killed one”, Maureen stepped closer and let her fire grew bigger, “But bad news for ya, kiddo. I have killed many of our kind. I am not broken.”

“What the hell….?”

The squeal got covered by the sound of the fire wrapping her up and grew seven feet high within the blink of an eye.

“Burn baby, burn.”, she giggled slightly maniacal.

Only a few seconds later, it was over. Ash was all that was left. Maureen kicked the little remains of doll face with a grim smirk.

“Ya deserved it. No one touches my darling and gets away.”
