Work Text:
“The Nook” was the kind of club a woman could only get into in two ways: Either she was a man’s escort or she worked there. Maureen’s job required her to get in. In her opinion, it had taken too long to find a man to get her in, and the irony that it was a human man who had no idea how many different demons and nature beings were running around there made it almost amusing.
As soon as she was inside, her companion had already separated from her and was content with two ladies who looked suspiciously like sirens from a distance. Maureen’s gaze went through the room and stopped at one of the dancers. It was Elinara, a young succubus, only a few years younger than her and probably the only one who had not bullied her as a child. Maureen turned to the bartender, who clearly looked like fae to her, and ordered a drink. The drink was just in her hand when Elinara came to her and reached past her for another drink.
“What are you doing here?” she whispered so softly that it could only register the heightened senses of a succubus.
“Business.”
“Theo it is.”
“The Satyr?” Maureen asked.
All she knew was that there was a satyr who had orgies here daily with humans, demons and everything else that existed, which was not reprehensible per se, but there were already two dead people, and he had to be stopped before human authorities would get nosy.
“Yes, actually Theoklidas. But you know.”
Elinara pushed herself closer to Maureen. It was no surprise that they had caught the eye of the men. Elinara with her black curls and olive-colored skin, dressed only in lingerie made of lace, pressed against Maureen in her short blood-red dress that was darker than her red hair and highlighted her pale skin so much that she could have been a ghost. If the dress, with its neckline down to the navel and a length just above the bottom, was not supposed to draw Theo’s attention to her, she didn’t know what to do, especially where it really highlighted her feminine curves. As a succubus, she knew exactly how well clothes served for seduction.
“May I buy the ladies a drink,” a man dressed in a Japanese kimono for men in plain black asked, although he was clearly an European.
Maureen raised her eyebrow and looked briefly at Elinara, who shook her head to prove that it was not Theo.
“Oh, pardon me, where are my manners, Connor of the Emerald Isle of Ireland.”
He bowed a little, his skin gleaming green for a moment. A nymph, that was the last thing she needed.
“Why not? I’ve got two hands.”
Elinara grinned broadly and gave Maureen a warning look. Connor used it to lean forward a little.
“I know why you’re here, demon hunter. Let’s talk about it in private.”
Though confused, Maureen smiled and nodded.
“I think that’s best.”
Connor took her drinks and passed one on. With his free hand on her lower back where there was still fabric, he led her through the club into a booth. She sat down on the curve of the sofa and crossed her legs.
“Spit it out, nymph. Even though I’ve never seen a male nymph before.”
“So you noticed. That makes things easier. And to your other remark: The result of 238 years of my kind crossing with other non-humans.”
Unexpectedly, he sat down next to her, but with at least four hand widths between them. Carefully, he took her hand in his hands and looked at her. His account of how long the nymphs had been intermingled was strangely accurate, but that was a question for another day. She had a mission.
“You must abandon your mission. You have no chance against this satyr.”
“How do you know that?” she gave back sassy.
No one had ever asked for anything like this before, and it hurt her honor. Connor took a deep breath and smiled in a melancholy way.
“Theo is only 16, 18 at the most in human years. He’s…”
“… a horny teenager. Oh, great. This just gets worse and worse. Just fantastic.”
“And that’s the problem,” he continued as if he hadn’t been interrupted, “Satyrs are at their strongest at that age with their ability to seduce. The only ones who can resist a satyr then are nymphs. You would instantly fall for him.”
“Are you worried about me?”
Impulsively, she pulled back her hand and gave him a nasty look.
“I have been instructed by his family to bring him back. Our jobs are similar. Only I don’t kill. Not all of us risk discovery on purpose. Many are just young and stupid. Or inexperienced in the human world.”
Connor’s earnest look got Maureen thinking.
“You are a cleaner.”
“Yes, that’s what humans would call it,” he nodded slowly.
“All right. You try it first. If Theo is still here tomorrow, he’ll go back to Mother Earth in little pieces.”
“That’s all I wanted.”
Connor stood up and bent over, his blond curls falling into his face, making him look strangely ageless. He took her hand again and pressed a kiss on it.
“I would be happy if you would wait for me. This job has cost us both a lot of energy.”
A smile followed by a giggle was her answer.
“I could really fill up my energy reserves, and I’ve always wanted to screw a nymph.”
“Gladly, at your service. But business before pleasure.”
He bowed politely and, after letting his gaze wander over her body, disappeared into the club. An expectant tingle ran through her body.
“What a strange man,” she thought aloud, and decided to stay in the private room until he came back.
If he was as good as she thought he was, it wouldn’t be long before he had wrapped the satyr up.
