Work Text:
“Callie!” Marie called out as she opened the front door, kicking her boots off and carefully shifting the bags of groceries in her hands.
When she didn’t get a response, she called out again.
“Callie!”
And yet again. Nothing.
“Where did she go now?” Marie mumbled with a sigh as she walked further into the apartment and stepped into the kitchen, sitting the bags down on the counter and beginning to unload them.
She pulled out the bread, and then the eggs, and then Callie’s favorite, the apple juice.
She let the apple juice sit there as she went to put the eggs in the fridge. Turning around and opening it, shoving them in there before shutting it and turning around to deal with the bread.
Only to be greeted with an octoling staring at her wide eyed, holding the apple juice.
They just stared at each other, both wide eyed, and Marie filled with confusion.
“…how.” Was all the idol could get out before the octoling scurried off further into the apartment.
“Hey! Get back here!” Marie yelled chasing after it. There was no way she was gonna let a rogue octoling just run around in her home. It was clearly from the domes, given the fact it was wearing the armor supplied by Octavio to his soldiers. Maybe it followed her home and was doing recon? Planning an assassination?
Whatever it was doing, Marie was putting an end to it now.
She chased the octoling into the living room, where it proceeded to hide behind the couch. Marie on one side, the octoling on the other. Anytime Marie tried to go one way, the octoling would go the other. Like a weird game of cat and mouse.
“Hey! Stop-no!”
Eventually, Marie got tired and just jumped over the couch. And the octoling yelped before running away yet again.
Straight into Callie’s bedroom.
“No no no no no!” The idol yelled, quickly running to the door as it shut and twisting knob, throwing the door open.
And she was greeted with the very terrifying sight of at least ten octolings all sat in Callie’s room, on her bed, on the floor, on her beanbags. And Callie sat right in the middle of three of them as they cuddled up to her.
“Oh! Hi Marie!” Callie called out, waving to her disturbed cousin. She could see the octoling she had chased hiding behind Callie, clinging onto her.
Marie was at a complete loss for words. Staring in horror and confusion at all the once murderous octolings that sat in the room, wrapped in blankets and sipping on juice as they all stared up at Marie in wonder.
“WHAT IS GOING ON?!” Marie practically screamed, clutching her tentacles as she looked between everyone.
“Hey! Easy! You don’t wanna spook them!” Callie said clutching one of the octos heads and rubbing it gently.
“Spook them…” Marie said in disbelief, “Callie. These are military trained soldiers. Why are they in our house?!”
Callie pouted at her cousin and wrapped an arm around another octoling, pulling it in to lean against her as it stared up at her with wide eyes of wonder.
“Because I like them!” She exclaimed.
“Callie! They were trained to kill us! Why did you even-no actually, HOW?” Marie asked.
“I dunno. I just kinda picked them up and they let me.” Callie said with a shrug.
Marie let out a dry wheeze and clutched at her coat, where one of her hearts where as she leaned against the door for support.
“Calliefortheloveofcodgetthemoutofourhome.”
“No! We’re watching movies!” Callie said and some of the octolings nodded in agreement.
Marie knew this was a losing battle. And honestly. She was too tired to deal with this right now.
So she kinda just accepted it.
“Fine.” Marie said rubbing her temple in annoyance. “But I want them gone by next week.”
“No promises.” Callie said grabbing an apple juice, “Oh! By the way, can you get us some more popcorn?”
“…sure.”
Multiple octoling cheers were heard as Marie closed the door.
