“Your Majesty! Prince Wallace of the Central-Keystone Kingdom has arrived for his bi-annual visit.”
Dick looked up from picking at his claws. He narrowed glowing red eyes at the lesser vampire in annoyance. The poor fool couldn’t tell if his ire was directed at him or at who was to come, but it didn’t matter to Dick. As long as they scurried away with their tail between their legs, he would be satisfied.
With a deep bow, the lesser vampire left the king to his brooding. Dick sighed as he slumped further into his throne. It was that time again, was it? How will Dick have to turn the werewolf prince away this time?
He continued to lounge on his throne as he waited. Servant after servant tried to bring him offerings of blood or entertainment to keep his anger in check, but he turned them all away before he impatiently roared, “Leave me until that wretched prince arrives!”
The solitude helped clear his mind for what was to come. With a deep breath, he closed his eyes and waited.
He had to be strong. His will had to be unbreakable for what was inevitably to come.
As if no time had passed, the main double doors creaked open and Prince Wallace was announced. Dick slowly opened his eyes only to be met with green orbs filled with determination. The Werewolf Prince was in front of his throne before Dick could hiss out a greeting.
“Oh yes, Prince Wallace, do come right in,” Dick said sarcastically.
“Thank you, Vampire King,” he greeted with venom on his tongue, “Your hospitality truly knows no bounds. It took, what, fifteen minutes to be led here this time?”
“Nothing but the absolute best for my favorite werewolf,” Dick sneered between sharpened fangs.
The prince let a small growl slip past his lips. His canines extended past as red hair seemed to grow longer.
Servants and guards littered the room - staring at the two with bated breaths - and it felt like far too many eyes on them. It made Dick’s skin itch.
“Away with you all! I need a word alone with the Prince.”
No one dared question the will of the Vampire King. They all bowed and skittered away into the corners of the Bludhaven Castle leaving the two creatures alone.
Dick’s eyes swept over the prince. He wore his formal ruby and gold robes that fit him well. He noted how prim and proper he looked and Dick couldn’t help but compare. His own dark robes were splattered with blood and in need of a cleaning, but what was the point when they would be stained ruby again?
A calculating look was in the prince’s eye that was far too familiar - like he was observing every move and twitch Dick made. The inevitable question was on the tip of the werewolf’s tongue - Dick could feel it - but the Vampire King rose from his throne before those fated words slipped past tempting lips.
With a nod of his head, Dick led them both past the throne room and towards his chambers. Behind a modest door, Dick guided them into a large room with simple but elegant furnishings. It wasn’t anything too gaudy, but green eyes drew to the back wall where there appeared to be a pipe organ. But the prince knew better. It wasn’t an instrument but several metal tubes full of blood for the Vampire King to feast.
The prince entered easily and made himself comfortable immediately. Wally sighed as he shed some of his layers and flopped onto Dick’s bed. He sank into the silken sheets and chuckled to himself. “OOOOoooooh, Vampire King~! Don’t harm me! Oh, I do hope I’m not sullying your pristine sheets with all my lesser rank, grime, and hair!”
“Oh, shut it, Wally,” Dick said with an affectionate roll of his eyes. He too shed his bloodied coat and joined his childhood best friend and lover in his bed. He made a show of jumping high and landing on the sheets next to Wally. They both giggled as they bounced on the springs.
Wally held Dick close and the vampire snuggled into the warmth. The cotton shirt was soft against his skin. With a deep inhale, nose deep into his side, all Dick could smell was Wally. If he closed his eyes, he could imagine his world was just his silly werewolf.
He popped his head out from his warmth and gazed into stunning green eyes. They crinkled at the corners and Wally let out a chuckle, “Hey there.”
“Hey.”
“You comfy?”
To emphasize his point, Dick smooshed his face into Wally’s neck as he replied, “Extremely.”
Wally let out that beautiful laugh again as he hugged Dick even closer to his side. He placed several kisses anywhere he could reach as Dick relished in Wally’s warmth.
“It’s gettin’ real hard to keep up character like that, ya know?” Wally said as he ran his fingers through Dick’s unruly hair. “I want nothin’ more than to mark you in front of everyone.” Wally then urged Dick up towards him and pulled them together in a heated kiss. Dick’s eyes couldn’t help but roll back as he leaned into the kiss. It’s been far too long and Dick was getting lost and addicted to the feeling of Wally against him all over again. But eventually, Wally needed to break for air. The vampire couldn’t help but chuckle at such a novel thing as breathing.
Licking his lips and fangs, Dick said, “Yeah, well, keep it in your pants, West.” He smirked but couldn’t help but lean again forward and placed a chaste kiss to Wally’s lips. “Can’t have rumors spreading around about the young and beautiful Prince of Central-Keystone in cahoots with the big bad Vampire King of Bludhaven, now can we?”
“Doesn’t gotta be a rumor if it’s true,” Wally tried to bargain as he dove into Dick’s neck.
He peppered kisses and bits to Dick’s pale skin. The vampire sighed as he tilted his head giving Wally more room to love. His eyes fluttered closed as he relished in the feeling of Wally’s hands roaming his body and the sensation of Wally leaving subtle marks. Dick’s clawed hands dug into his skin, but not hard enough to break. Both knew the marks would disappear by morning anyway, so they might as well indulge.
But the words nagged at Dick’s mind too much for him to truly enjoy the moment. It was the fated question - even if not posed to be one. With a frown, he slowly pushed Wally away and muttered, “I told you we can’t.”
They both knew what Wally insinuated with his last comment and both knew why the answer was no. It had nothing to do with their intimacy, thankfully, as Dick affirmed that by rubbing at a sensitive spot on Wally’s hip. But the werewolf couldn’t accept that answer.
“Dick -”
“I said no, Wally. The answer is always going to be no -”
“But why!” he said sitting up. The desire in his eye was replaced with desperation and that look tore at Dick’s heart. He wanted to take back those words, but he bit his tongue. He had to be strong! He had to be strong! He couldn’t give in just because Wally had very effective puppy-dog eyes! He had to be strong!
“Dick,” Wally said as he gently reached for his hand and cradled it in his own. “I love you. I love you so damn much, and you know I’d do anything for you!”
Dick finally sat up to meet Wally’s teary eyes. He set his jaw and willed himself not to kiss those unshed tears away. He had to be strong! “I love you too, Wally, and that’s why I’m not letting you throw away your life for me.”
“It’s not throwing it away if I want to,” Wally argued.
“Yes, it is!” Dick readjusted himself so he was facing the werewolf head-on. Wally’s form slumped and his head downcast. Gingerly, Dick caressed his jaw and pulled them closer together. Those beautiful green eyes met his red ones. Before Dick could get lost in those emerald pools, he softly said, “There are lights and darks of this world.”
Wally sighed, “Here we go…”
“You are a light,” Dick insisted, “A shining light of hope for the Central-Keystone Kingdom.”
“Uh-huh.”
“And I am a dark. I draw all the negative and evils toward me so others don’t have to endure it.”
Wally scoffed. “How noble of you.”
Dick chuckled, “Shut it. I’m being serious here.” Impulse got the better of him as he leaned forward and placed a kiss on those quirked-up lips. But he pulled away and rested their foreheads together. “I am a dark. I keep up this Vampire King persona bullshit so that Nightwing can go into Bludhaven and actually protect these people. But in the end, we’re - I’m - both darks. We will draw in the wicked of this world so lights, like you, can truly be radiant. And I’ll be damned if I drag such a beautiful light into this hell pit, Wally. I don’t want to do that to you.”
Wally let out a frustrated sigh. He knew it would be catastrophic if he abandoned Central-Keystone, willingly or not. It would cause strife, panic, and a power unbalance. It would start a war where lives would be lost and cities left in ruin. He knew. He knew but he could still dream of being with his lover. He could still fight to try to be with Dick.
“I know,” he muttered, but he shook his head. With another frustrated sigh, he ran fingers through wavy hair and pulled Dick closers to rest their foreheads together. “But I can’t stand being so fucking far away from you, Dick. It kills me every day that I don’t get to wake up next to you. It fucking sucks that I only get to see you, like, twice a year - more if we’re lucky. It’s hell not being able to touch you except in this stupid room - no offense. You have a lovely room, but fuck, I want the whole damn world to know you’re mine.”
His hands shifted to cupped Dick’s face and tried to bring them impossibly closer. He rubbed his wrists into Dick’s skin - scenting the vampire. Dick’s non-beating heart squeezed in his chest. He wanted all those things too. He wanted all that and so much more, but he knew he couldn’t. He wanted to watch everything burn if it meant that he could be with Wally like this forever. He would do it too if someone asked him on the right day - a day when he was especially missing that contagious laugh or brilliant smile.
But today he was strong. Today, he had to be strong.
Dick kissed Wally. He kissed him over and over again with an apology laced into each one. Wally was a force of hope for the world. He needed to be in the spotlight. He couldn’t - shouldn’t - be with Dick. His Nightwing persona also inspired hope, sure - it was different and bound with fear but it was hope nonetheless - but it was nothing the same as Wally’s light.
The werewolf frowned. The kisses and brushing of their tongues masked it well, but Wally’s disappointment was clear. He didn’t care about all that. He didn’t care about Dick’s weird and convoluted vigilantism in Bludhaven, nor about the fancy metaphor he lived by. Wally just wanted to be by Dick’s side. Simple as that.
“Ya know,” Wally said, between kisses. His eye wandered to the metal tubing that stretched from the ceiling. “My offer to be a ‘generous donor’ still stands too.”
Dick groaned and flopped back on the sheets. He bounced a bit as Wally followed him down. “Those are just from scared mortals who think they have to pledge themselves to me. For protection or something. I never actually touch it unless I’m running low because Nightwing gets all the blood he needs from the true evils of this city. So no, Wally, you don’t need to give me your blood either.”
He rolled his eyes as he placed a hand on Dick’s hip and snuggled close to his lover again. He knew the real answer and it had nothing to do with mortals.
Years ago, Wally offered his blood to a sickly Dick and the vampire almost sucked him dry. Something about Wally tasting too good. That gave the werewolf an ego boost, but they’ve never delved down that road since.
“Yeah yeah. But the offer is still on the table.” The offer would forever be on the table.
With a spark, an idea popped into Wally’s mind. A dangerous idea, but it would probably be hot as fuck too so why not, right?
His hand slowly trailed up Dick’s body. He felt a shiver in his wake as he passed over beautiful, sensitive skin. His eyes became dark and lidded as his palm trailed further and further up. Green met red yet again and Wally’s hand cupped Dick’s face. Dick didn’t make a move - waiting to see what Wally would do. Not saying a word either, Wally caressed his thumb along soft skin. He leaned closer and closer as his thumb brushed closer and closer to that sinful mouth. Dick parted his lips easily showing off those alluring fangs. Breaking eye contact, Wally stared at such a pretty mouth. He licked his lips as he let his thumb slip between parted lips. Dick’s eyes were so blown that Wally could hardly see those brilliant red irises.
Faster than Dick could process, Wally nicked his thumb against the razor point of his fang.
Skin broke and blood flowed.
Dick gasped and covered his mouth. He flinched away from Wally with worry and horror in his eyes. “Wally! Why’d you do that?! Are you okay?”
“Fine, babe, but I do seem to have cut myself. Oooooh noooo,” Wally said, feigning worry, “Why don’t you clean it up for me, sweetheart?”
Dick’s eyes got impossibly wider. As much as he wanted to keep his attention on his face, Dick couldn't help but track the small stream of blood trail down beautifully tempting skin. He shook himself out of it though. “Wh-what?! No!”
“Ah, but it would be such a shame to waste it, ya know?” Wally bargained. He even raised his hand closer to Dick’s face, tauntingly. “Besides, with my werewolf healing, the wound will close soon. Might as well indulge, yeah?”
Dick’s eyes fluttered. The smell. The smell of sweet iron wafted around him and trapped him in a sweet embrace. Dick couldn’t tear his eyes away - or keep his fangs in check - if he tried. He couldn’t place it, but Wally’s blood always smelled so damn good. Maybe it was love that clouded his senses whenever the werewolf was around, but that small trickle of blood looked like a buffet.
And Dick was a starving man.
“Ye-yeah,” Dick whispered. His hands slowly fell from his face as he kept honing in on that beautiful red streak. “Would it… would it r-really be okay, Wally?”
He couldn’t see it, but the love and trust in Wally’s eye never left. “Of course, babe. I’d honestly be a little bit offended if you didn’t.”
If Wally thought the red from Dick’s eye was barely visible before, it was almost as if his entire eye was dark now as his pupils were blown wide. Dick swallowed hard and Wally could see him practically vibrating to keep in control.
“Oh-okay.”
Slowly - oh so very slowly - Dick leaned forward, closed his eyes, and licked up Wally’s arm. His tongue caught every drop of blood and Wally saw the exact moment Dick’s self-control snapped. With a new hunger, Dick licked and sucked at Wally’s skin and open wound.
He looked starved.
He looked wild.
He looked so incredibly hot.
Wally bit his lip - his fangs growing and digging into his skin - as he watched his lover ravage his skin and blood. But as he promised, the wound was closed in no time and Dick was left whimpering for more.
He was out of breath and his eyes looked clouded. Wally hadn’t truly witnessed it yet, but he remembered when the vampire told him about being blood-drunk - a feeling similar to his hunter’s high, he guessed - but Dick looked inebriated from even such a small sampling of the werewolf’s blood. It was incredible.
“Love…” Dick tried to say through his blood-drunk state, “Love you…”
Wally smiled. His tail wasn’t out yet but he could feel it phantom wagging. He loved Dick so much. He loved this vampire with all his being. He wanted this. He wanted this every night and day. Why wouldn’t Dick let them have this? Why couldn’t they be like this every night?
He sighed but his smile never diminished. “I love you too,” he whispered as he brought their lips together again.
Wally would want nothing more than for this to be their norm. He wanted to Dick to be in his arms every night. He wanted this to be their forever.
He would try to convince his lover again tomorrow, he supposes.
