Work Text:
They had just finished their first show in D.C., it was their first time coming to the big city of Washington to perform for a tour. They were exhausted, happy, but exhausted too. Taehyun wasn’t going to do much, he just wanted to get to his room and eat, but Soobin suddenly wanted to go live to chat a little with Moa and invited him, so he accepted. They went to the room and started the live.
At first the comments weren’t showing, but maybe it had to do with the fact that they were using the hotel’s wi-fi. However, they both were tired and didn’t want to put any more effort so they just would read them in Soobin’s phone.
They started to talk about the show, about how the fans’ energy was amazing and how Moa danced and sang with them the whole time when they suddenly heard voices outside of the room, so Soobin said, “Hold on… let’s close the door.”
“Just lower it.” Taehyun gestured with his arm, “No. Yes, that’s right.”
Soobin was still at the door when a third voice made its presence, “Are you doing it? The live?”
“Yes. I’ll close the door.” Soobin said before doing so.
Taehyun never averted his gaze from the door when he first heard that it was him. He knew it was him but he still asked, “Beomgyu hyung?”
“Yes. Beomgyu is getting room service,” Soobin said and walked back to sit in front of the camera again.
Taehyun chuckled at that. “It’s nice that room service is available until late here,” he sighed and looked at the camera, waiting for Soobin to sit next to him. Taehyun maybe thought that Beomgyu would join them.
“I’m seriously so hungry.” Soobin sighed.
They started to talk about room service, about the food they had ordered and what they wanted to order later too.
Not much time passed and they were now talking about some movies when suddenly someone knocked on the door. They both looked at it at the same time.
“Did you order something?” Soobin said, trying to get up but Taehyun stood faster.
“I’ll go.” He knew who was standing behind that door. “Hello?” Taehyun asked, he didn’t even let the other talk when he spoke again, “No thanks,” he was teasing.
“I think it’s Beomgyu– I guessed right,” Soobin said when Taehyun finally opened the door and let him in.
They both walked to sit in front of the camera. Taehyun took his place next to Soobin, and Beomgyu sat behind them on the bed.
“Are you all washed up?” Beomgyu asked while fixing his hair a little bit, looking straight at the camera.
“No, not yet,” Taehyun replied. He was watching Beomgyu in the camera that was in front of him. He was trying to be subtle about it.
“I erased my makeup and came, only Taehyun didn’t erase it before.” Soobin replied almost at the same time Taehyun did.
“So I asked Soobin hyung. I asked ‘Should I erase just my eyes too?’ but he didn’t.”
Beomgyu was behind them, but he was sitting closer to Soobin, so Taehyun had to finally turn a bit to face him while talking, trying to meet his face. He leaned his arm in the bed, awfully close to where Beomgyu’s hand was. Beomgyu hadn’t met his eyes until that moment. Beomgyu looked at him but quickly averted his gaze back to the camera again. Taehyun did the same, but he didn’t move his arm one bit. He didn’t want to.
Soobin started talking again, something about the makeup, and Taehyun was smiling, trying to put attention to what Soobin was saying, but Beomgyu started to move, as if looking for something in front of them.
“Is it pasta?”
At that moment they both left their rant about makeup and put attention to Beomgyu.
“How is this pasta?” Soobin said. Taehyun chuckled.
“Raspberry ice cream,” They both said at the same time.
Then Soobin showed the plate to the camera, “He looked at this right now and asked if it’s pasta,” the elder of them said while laughing, mocking Beomgyu.
“At first I thought it was tteokbokki,” Beomgyu said, almost in a murmur, going back to sit on the bed, his eyes never leaving the camera.
“It doesn’t look very good,” Taehyun then said. He was gonna lean his arm back in the bed again, he tried, but Beomgyu was closer to him now so he just didn’t. Taehyun looked at the camera again, to someone specifically.
“It tastes how it looks,” Soobin put the plate back on the table in front of him.
“I even showered,” Beomgyu bursted out of nowhere, biting his lower lip and smiling. Along with a funny voice, the one he uses when he does aegyo, and looked briefly at Taehyun. However, Taehyun didn’t look back at him. It was dangerous.
He was watching through the camera though.
“It looks that way,” Soobin teased, and they went silent for a second before Beomgyu talked again.
“I’ll go,” he stood up fast and left but sat back right away.
Taehyun laughed while looking at him briefly. For a second there he thought that he would really leave, “The comments aren’t showing, so we’re reading them on Soobin hyung’s phone,” Taehyun said instead, feeling the need to say something to Beomgyu so he would stay with them. With him.
They started to read some comments, one specifically that said that they catched a flu so they were watching the live luckily. Taehyun said that there was a cold around the team too, Soobin agreed.
“That’s right. Actually… are you okay?”
When Beomgyu said that, he looked at him, and poked his bare arm with his finger. The touch stood there for two seconds, but it felt as if it was an eternity, Beomgyu made it feel like it was an eternity. And it felt so warm against his skin. He wanted to do the same, he wanted to touch Beomgyu, his arm, or at least his hand.
“I just had a bit of the sniffles,” when Taehyun turned to face Beomgyu, he moved quickly and poked at Soobin’s back, looking at the elder boy now, “What about you?”
“What?” Soobin asked laughing, taken aback by Beomgyu’s actions.
“How natural,” Taehyun chuckled, as if Beomgyu only did it to Soobin so Taehyun wasn’t the only one.
Beomgyu just laughed, closing his eyes, looking a bit embarrassed. They all laughed.
Soobin talked again. But Taehyun suddenly felt that Beomgyu wasn’t close enough to him, he wanted him to be closer, to touch him a bit somehow. Even though they both were looking at Soobin, he turned towards Beomgyu.
For a moment there, he was gonna touch Beomgyu’s arm, but hesitated at the very last moment and only rested his hand very closely to where Beomgyu’s hand was, maybe trying to touch it a little. There’s no way to tell, right? Because Taehyun covered them with his body.
At least he wanted to keep the warm touch of Beomgyu’s body, but the elder moved his hand quickly, as if Taehyun’s proximity burned.
Taehyun hoped it burned in a good way.
They both kept looking at Soobin.
Taehyun started to tease them, asking if they were the same age now that they were in America. He was teasing them, and he felt Beomgyu looking at him, he felt his eyes on him, but never looked back at him, only laughed at what they both were saying.
They kept talking, and Beomgyu finally looked at him again.
“I had a sore throat.” Beomgyu’s gaze was directly at him, and Taehyun doesn’t know why, but he felt kind of relieved.
“What about now?” he asked looking at Beomgyu too. Soobin was just looking at the camera.
“So today, I thought I wouldn’t be able to sing live well, but the sound came out very well.”
When Beomgyu stared to talk, Taehyun leaned on the bed again, he couldn’t control the urge to catch all of Beomgyu. As if Beomgyu’s attention on him would not last. Soobin just kept looking at the camera.
They were having a good time, they started talking about how their voices sounded in the morning, how they would put the humidifier on and how they sounded at rehearsal.
Taehyun felt good, Beomgyu was looking at him and he felt pleased, he kept leaning his arm on the bed. Trying to reach, trying to touch, trying to feel. But he did it a bit too much it seems, because Soobin, who was chill looking at the camera, went silent at some point, and looked back at them, as if asking something. But it was all quick. Probably didn’t even meant something.
Taehyun felt aware of himself. He quit leaning on the bed and straightened his posture. Scratching his arm while looking at something in front of him. Beomgyu looked at the camera too.
They continued talking, laughing and reading Moa’s comments. The fans were saying they’re happy that they came to D.C., that the show was so fun. The three felt good, so the atmosphere was good too.
“And not too long ago, I went on a walk outdoors, and it was so therapeutic.” Beomgyu said so while looking at Taehyun. As if with just one look, Taehyun would know what he was talking about.
Taehyun giggled and agreed with him, not able to keep his eyes away from him anymore. He wasn’t even being subtle, Soobin was talking and all he wanted to watch was Beomgyu.
Taehyun said there was a lot of greenery on the walk, and Beomgyu agreed. “There was a lot of green, and… there were many squirrels, too.”
“There were many squirrels?” Soobin asked, surprised.
Taehyun tried to reach for his phone, which was behind Beomgyu’s hand. He saw an opportunity right there. But Beomgyu moved it the moment Taehyun took the object, “There were a ton of red squirrels.” He started to search for the squirrels’ pictures that he took.
And when he was focused on his phone, he felt Beomgyu lean closer to him, very close, trying to peek at what he was doing. He almost felt his warm breathing against him. If he just leaned a just little bit closer...
He had to physically make himself stop whatever he was thinking and turned to Soobin instead.
He showed the video to Soobin, and he showed it to the camera too, the video of the squirrel he took.
Time passed and they kept talking. They would laugh at each other for something that someone would say, they teased each other, and they also kept reading some comments. They were good, even though it was late at night.
At some point they started talking about the Japanese concept photos, saying that they came out, talking about the day they did the photo shoot and remembering how they posed, laughing.
Soobin was talking. Beomgyu sighed and looked at the space of the bed next to him, as if inspecting it. A second later he moved and laid down, his face to Taehyun’s side.
When Taehyun looked at him and saw him lying there, he leaned his arm how he’s been doing the whole night. Getting a bit too close to Beomgyu’s face. However, he did it for a quick moment, because he got back to sitting straight while he kept talking to Soobin.
But Beomgyu was not having it. He put a little sticky doll he had on his forehead, and when he felt that Taehyun leaned back again and looked directly at him, he saw his chance.
“If I get up from here, would this fall or not fall?”
Taehyun's gaze was on him only, and Beomgyu felt good.
“How do you have to get up?” Taehyun asked, still so close to him. And he could only look up at him, at his pretty face. Soobin was silently looking at the camera.
“Just like this,” he lifted his head a little, trying to give his point across.
Taehyun’s gaze was serious, it could burn his entire body, and Beomgyu started to actually feel that warm feeling on him.
“It would fall off,” Taehyun said matter of factly. Beomgyu smiled, accepting the challenge, and while still looking at Taehyun only, he got up and the thingie didn’t fall. They both laughed, and Beomgyu came back to sit back like he was moments ago. He needed to calm himself.
They read some more comments, they were teasing and enjoying their time with Moa, talking about how some Moas would bring their dads to their concert. They were both hovering over Soobin, to try to read comments too.
“They’re asking what we’re into lately.” Soobin said.
Beomgyu had to think of something quick, something to not say what he actually wanted to say. He laughed trying to seem funny.
“Moa?” He quirked his head.
“You’re into them lately?” Soobin asked him while looking at the camera.
Taehyun was awfully quiet, just casually looking at him through the phone in front of them, but still so close to him. Their arms were touching. Every time one of them moved a little, their arms would touch, and Beomgyu preferred not to think what it would be like to feel Taehyun’s thick bare arm against his skin.
However he had to play it goofy, shoving those thoughts to the back of his head.
“My face is a little red, right?” He touched his cheek. Taehyun was still by his side, close.
He saw a comment asking about why his face was so red, so before Soobin —or even worse, Taehyun — read it out loud, he said it himself.
“Why are you red?” Soobin asked, looking at his phone. Taehyun was looking at it too.
“I drank barley tea,” Beomgyu said the first thing that popped into his mind, a little embarrassed, still caressing his cheek. He could feel Taehyun’s gaze, looking at him through the screen in front of them. However, he said nothing, and just looked back at Soobin’s phone.
Beomgyu felt relieved because if Taehyun would’ve looked at him, he wouldn’t have known what to do. He thought he was getting a bit too aware of their proximity, so Beomgyu leaned back in the bed, making some space between him and the younger boy.
Because honestly, he wanted to kiss Taehyun so bad.
“They kept asking in the comments,” Soobin spoke again, “Everyone asked why your face is red.”
“To me?”
“Yes.”
So Soobin did read those comments, yet he didn’t say anything, maybe not wanting to make him feel embarrassed or something. Taehyun didn’t say anything either.
“There was that comment constantly.”
Taehyun didn’t say anything, until that moment.
“He must feel embarrassed,” the younger boy said, still not looking at him. And Beomgyu had to act silly to not actually give himself up. He couldn’t contain himself as well as he wanted though.
“I’m embarrassed,” Beomgyu put both his fisted hands on his cheeks, pouting, looking at the camera.
“I guess so,” Soobin said, and there was silence.
He was sure though, that Taehyun was looking at him on Soobin’s phone. He was so sure. And he kind of liked that thought.
“You’ll be in big trouble if you get embarrassed twice.” Soobin said nonchalantly. And at that Taehyun did laugh.
They talked a little bit more after that, about their show on the 28th and how it would be streamed in theatres. Kept reading some comments and laughed, but suddenly Beomgyu felt kind of bold. So he went for it.
With the three of them still looking at Soobin’s phone, Beomgyu bursted out, “Taehyun. You are the most handsome person I’ve ever seen.”
…
Okay, it was done, he said it. He tried acting nonchalant after saying that, because it might seem that he was just reading a comment right? But the thing is that the three of them were looking at the screen, so maybe they noticed there was no such comment as that.
They fell silent.
Soobin looked around the room, as if trying to come up with something to get past what Beomgyu just said. He looked so lost and done. At a lost of words.
Taehyun didn’t say a word either, nor even looked at him. And maybe it was for the best, because if he had come up with one of his witty responses, looking like that with that black sleeveless tank top, showing those well-formed biceps, then he wouldn’t have known what to do.
Since no one was saying a word, he had to talk again, “Okay…” he said, hoping that the blush on his face hadn’t gotten any redder.
Then Soobin and him laughed, Taehyun only smiled.
“He reacts well to only his compliments.” Soobin joked. There goes the lider.
After that, finally, finally , Taehyun looked at him, “If they saw me, they probably also saw you.”
Okay, was he implying that Beomgyu was the most handsome person he’s ever seen too? Did he get what Beomgyu was trying to do? They both looked back down at Soobin’s phone though.
“He beat me,” Soobin smiled.
“It’s a difference of preferences,” Beomgyu said, enjoying the smile on Taehyun’s face and the way Taehyun’s ears were red. So he wasn’t the only one.
After a little while, Beomgyu thought that that was it. With every second he was growing more and more restless and anxious. So he had to come with an excuse.
“Everyone! But the food I ordered is about to get all cold…”
“Me too, me too,” Soobin started to chant.
“It tastes bad if it gets cold, too,” he continued, “so I’ll be on my way now.”
He felt Taehyun’s eyes looking at the way he was fidgeting with the little toy in Soobin’s neck.
Beomgyu kept saying his goodbye quickly, racing the words, trying to be funny but also because he wanted to get out of there, he was starting to feel that he couldn’t breath, too aware of Taehyun’s presence next to him.
“I think we can all say goodbye. Soobin hyung and I have to eat too anyway.” Taehyun said, looking at the camera. But Beomgyu could tell from the screen that his eyes were looking at him. Like they’ve been doing the whole night.
Subtle but still there. As most of Taehyun’s actions are.
They tried to do an acrostic poem with ‘DC’ to wrap it up, but as always, it was a mess. They all waved at the camera and finally cut the broadcast.
“Woah, I’m really so hungry.” Soobin said, standing up from the chair to go get his food.
Beomgyu was quiet then, because Taehyun turned to look directly at him, with those big round doe eyes shining with something. He was still so close to him, their sides touching. Beomgyu’s mouth went dry in a second, and he could swear that his face got even redder if it was possible.
“Okay, I gotta head back to my room,” Beomgyu said while standing up. His eyes never leaving Taehyun, who was still looking at him.
“Yeah, good night.” Soobin said, not bothering to look back at him, just busy getting his food ready to eat.
Beomgyu walked fast, almost ran to the door to get out of there, and shut the door closed a little too harsh, with his heart beating like crazy.
“What’s up with him,” Soobin asked with his mouth full, he really looked like a cute little rabbit. He got no response though. Soobin turned back to look at Taehyun who was still staring at the closed door.
“I’m gonna go too,” Taehyun stood dangerously fast, as if the chair was burning under him, and walked towards the door.
“What? I thought we were going to eat?” Soobin said, confused.
“Yeah… see you tomorrow hyung.”
After that, Taehyun closed the door behind him and walked a couple of steps, to one door specifically.
He opened that door, didn’t even bother to knock.
And he was waiting for him right there.
He wanted to smirk, but he could only let out a trembling little sigh, his heart beating fast before walking into that room and closing the door behind him.
Call it maybe the rush and adrenaline that always lingers there after a concert. Maybe call it a mixture of moments and feelings that were harboring inside them for quite a long time now.
Call it whatever you like, in the end, the tension always breaks, and if a live late at night is what it takes to be the last straw between them, then so be it.
