Please be aware: For this story, I completely disregard the other series (Korra included), comics, films, books, and whatever else is out there. This story builds only on the three seasons of ATLA.
o-0-oFour years ago, when the war ended, all of Team Avatar made Zuko a promise that they would end him if he began ruling like his father.
On his way to the Northern Water Tribe, Sokka hears of a devastating attack on the Fire Nation capital plus some very disturbing stories that Zuko had people executed for the crime and carried out the sentence himself.
Has the Fire Lord begun his descent into power abuse?
Has he begun to enjoy killing enemies off?
Only one way to find out, but Fire Lord Zuko has isolated himself on a distant mountain after having dealt with the consequences of the attack, and Sokka is alone.
He isn’t sure what really happened and whether he will need to kill Zuko as he promised all those years ago – but he has to go there and find out. -

“Maybe not individually, but you see your subjects as people. Not as things or numbers you can play with. You care about their right to live and be happy. Or miserable. Or wise. Or sour. Or… I don’t know …horny.” He shrugged and nodded towards the door where a few stripes of the lightning flower glow from outside could be seen through the cracks.
Zuko stared at him for a moment, incapable of making the words make sense. Then a sudden laugh escaped his lips. “You’re right. I care about people’s right to be horny.”
“See, you should use that on your imperial …sticks and flags and things.”
