Black came rushing in with grocery bags and an unapologetic smile on his face. Severus needed to ward his home against stray mongrels. Leaving his journal on the sofa, he took half of the bags from Black and placed them on the kitchen counter.
“Why did you bring all this? As a matter of fact, why are you here?” Severus blew air out of his mouth, frustration in his countenance. This was the third day in a row that Black had come over without an invitation.
Black made himself at home, taking out the groceries from the bags and placing them in their designated areas. Yesterday, he dusted the empty cabinets and wiped them, and today they were filled with cans of food, boxes of cereal, boxes of pasta, and other foods. Severus’ fridge was also filled with food. Black was insane to do this entire thing when Severus hadn’t asked him to do any of it.
"I know how little you eat, and while you could survive on so little in the past, you cannot do so anymore." Black looked into Severus’ eyes as he said this in a serious tone.
Severus glowered but said nothing when Black grabbed a cutting board and sharpened a knife. He should have thrown out Black, never letting him return, but his presence was strangely soothing. Black washed the knife and vegetables and began chopping them with the sharpened knife. Severus pulled up a chair and sat, watching Black cook in his kitchen as if this were where he belonged.
Everything had changed a week ago when he told Black about the pregnancy. He thought nothing would change. He thought he would raise the child on his own, but Black seemed pleased by the news. He seemed to love the idea of being a father to Severus’ child, making plans about the future without Severus’ input. Severus never expected to be embarking on this journey with a man with whom he was having hate-sex.
Black flashed him a bright smile and Severus’ stomach twisted, a flutter in his chest. Maybe it would all work out. His mother had told him that he could not plan for everything, and that the best moments came when he least expected them. Co-parenting with Black would be better than doing it alone. His child would need both of their parents, after all. He rubbed his flat abdomen and saw a wonderful life ahead of him.
