Chapter 1: William x m!reader

Chapter Text

A lot of things had been going on with the Moriarty plan; they had come in contact with Irene Adler, they had received the documents containing Britain's scandal, they were planning on proposing the government's silence, and some other things.

You were worried about how overloaded everyone felt, but there was nothing you could do.

Or so you thought.

You then got the idea that if you couldn't do something special, like prepare a tea party because that wouldn't feel unique, then you could make gifts. You planned to give out each gift on a separate day so you had a chance at making them look forward to something, and each gift would be related to something they care about. Sounds fun, right?

While the others were out doing smaller things unrelated to Britain's scandal, it was the perfect time to get started. You left for your old room to craft in, because you had moved your things in William's room and no one went in there.

After gathering some materials and candy for the gifts, you sat on the floor close to a closet to quickly hide what you were doing in the event someone came looking for you. You made a total of seven small bags, one for each person living in the mansion, including yourself, and even Herder if he made an appearance.

It was much later in the day when you finished them all, but at least you wouldn't leave yourself open for discovery making them all throughout the week.

That evening, you would select your first recipient. You thought Albert was the best choice for the first day, as he would probably brag about getting a gift from some unknown "secret admirer". That was the plan, everyone had to know about the gifts before getting one, besides the first being the introduction, of course.

Just your luck, William was working in his office instead of coming to lay down, so you hid all the gifts in a place he wouldn't look (your personal space because he could find anything :')), and left for Albert's office.

You assumed he was already in his room, because he never tried to miss out on sleep. When you arrived at the door, not a candle was lit, so you took this as a go ahead to place his gift on top of his paperwork where it would easily be found.

Albert's bag was decorated in tiny wine glasses and masquerade masks you made out of felt, with a green base that matched his eyes and tie of choice. Now that you looked at it on his desk, it looked like an early Christmas gift with the green background and red wine glasses. Not that you intended it to look that way, but you decided it was fine, nonetheless.

Thankfully, you weren't noticed the rest of the night as you crept back in your room to fall asleep.

The next morning, Albert had admired his gift and talked about it the whole day, just as you planned. He enjoyed all the small gummies and peppermint sticks and talked about how he wished he could drink the wine on the bag, going and getting a bottle for himself. No one quite knew they would be getting one as well, but by tomorrow, that problem should solve itself.

You continued gift giving every day of the week until it was Saturday, and William was the only one who hadn't received one. You felt kind of bad, yes, but you wanted to do something a bit more special with him. You were saving the best for last, of course.

You couldn't read his face when you asked him about it, because you even made it look like you got one. Given how the situation looked, everyone assumed William was the one passing out gifts, even if he denied it every time. So, this prompted you to start making preparations for his tiny surprise.

The kitchen was open, since it was past all meals, and you made the best stargazy pie you could. Louis had shown you how to make one weeks ago, so you hoped you remembered it well enough for him to enjoy it.

Once you had finished it, your clothes were covered in flower and smelled like fish, so you went to yours and William's shared room to change.

When you arrived, you slightly jumped seeing him already in there. William was laying in bed reading a book, most likely waiting for you. It shouldn't have been that surprising, considering the hour, but you didn't predict this when setting up.

You were going to say something, but William got to it first, "Hello, darling. It's quite late, where have you been?"

He had asked with a comforting smile, but you were still searching for things to say, so you looked nervous.

"Are you alright?" he tilted his head in concern, "You don't have to respond."

You shook your head, "Oh, no, it's nothing. Um, could you wait for me a second longer? I've got something for you, but I have to get changed first."

"Of course," he complied.

You made your way over to your shared closet, pulling out some pajamas and getting dressed quickly. You waved a hand to signal you'd be back before almost racing out the door to get his surprise pie. No one had touched it and it was right where you left it. Perfect.

Once you picked it up, you slightly scanned the hallway, then hurried over to your door and knocked.

"William," you called, "close your eyes."

You heard his laugh faintly through the door, "As you wish."

Even though you knew he could smell the pie, you tried to be as quiet as possible. You may or may not have tripped over your own two feet and the air a couple of times when reaching for his gift, what you bought from the fitter days ago, and setting down the pie, but you didn't drop anything.

Once you had all the items laid out carefully on the bed in front of him and you sat down, you asked him to open his eyes. When he did, he barely glanced at the items you got him and threw his arms around you instead.

"Woah! Thanks for the hug, William, but the pie!" you said, startled.

He apparently knew what he was doing, because it didn't fall and he laughed after your words.

"Thank you so much, (Y/n). You're the best man I could have ever asked for," he smiled.

Your heart felt like it warmed up to the temperature of lava, so you returned his hug ten fold. After a couple moments of this, you realized where you were, and ushered him to look at his gifts.

Once he took a better look at the decorated bag, he claimed, "I knew it was you. You weren't sly enough this time, I'm afraid."

You playfully hit his arm at the statement, but then rested your head on his shoulder. He softly hummed at the sweet gesture, and then looked over to the fabric laying out.

"When did you go to the fitter?" he asked, "And how did you remember my measurements with that scattered brain of yours?"

"Wow, William. I try to do something nice for you for once and you constantly insult me? How rude."

"You know it isn't like that, I just didn't expect it."

"I figured with that massive brain of yours, you'd know everything. Guess I was wrong..."

"Alright, alright. Let me eat my pie in peace, would you?"

Once he asked that question, you lifted your head abruptly.

"Ha, I don't think so," you laughed, reaching for the pie as he held it just out of reach, "I made that pie, so now you have to enjoy it with me!"

Before you could grab it, he somehow placed it on the nightstand, pushed you back and hovered over you.

He smiled, lightly touching the tip of your nose, "I don't think so."

"I just love it when my partner won't share with me," you huffed, crossing your arms and looking off to the side. That's when he turned your head back to face him.

"Oh, darling, don't look so cross," he consoled, as he connected your lips to kiss you. Moments later, lips now barely touching, he concluded, "I suppose I'll let you have some."

You looked up at him, not knowing if you should still be "upset" or not. Giving him a quick glare with a smile, you pushed him back up, saying, "Go ahead and eat your pie. I'm happy just seeing you receive your presents."

"Well, to be fair, " he began, reaching for the food on the nightstand, "you should be thanked for being such an amazing person. After all, you did get me multiple gifts and made my favorite dish unprompted. There has to be an award for that, right?"

You giggled, he was just too sweet. Once he sat the pie in between the two of you, you both enjoyed it while talking over the week and how much you loved each other.

There really wasn't anything better than this.
