You're not the same.
You're not who you were.
You're not the one I've been searching for.
You're not who I thought.
You have that same hair.
You wear that same sweater.
You have those same wings.
You wear that same expression on your face.
But there's blood on your hands.
But you look ragged as you never did.
But there's no spark of recognition in your eyes.
But you are afraid of everything.
I'm forced to wonder who you are.
I'm forced to question if you're the same.
I'm forced to tell you that you're not mine.
I'm forced to acknowledge the loss of my version of you.
I think you know what I'm talking about.
I know you can't even pretend.
I think that it's all over.
I know that it can never really be.
The reply you give me is that I'm not yours either.
The truth in that hurts.
The unasked hangs in the air.
The solution nowhere to be found.
If only I could see more.
If only you understood where you were.
If only we could sit down and talk it out.
If only there were a simple answer.
“I miss you,”
I tell you.
“I don't.”
