It was supposed to be a simple task. Bring the materials to the photo shoot location. When did it go so wrong?
—
Tollin looked down at the address that his brother had given him, then back up at the building in front of him. The building is old and seemingly falling apart, but it's the right building. He goes inside, struggling slightly to open the door. Then, he carefully closed the door behind him.
The amount of dust inside makes them cough almost immediately. With one hand, they bring their turtleneck in front of their mouth. Their other hand clutches the box of materials. They look around to see the walls covered in cracks.
Why would his brother’s agent choose this spot for a photo shoot? He was told it was because of the ‘vibes’ of the building, but couldn't they just create a set? He doesn't know, and he's too afraid to ask. Even if he did, his brother would probably ignore him anyway.
As they venture deeper into the house, not even their turtleneck can stop the dust. They start coughing once more, their eyes tearing up from the sheer force of it. Once they stop, they finally make it to the room their brother told them to put the stuff in.
He struggles to open the door as he goes in. As he looks around, he feels a drip of water hit his head. Looking up, he finds that there's a leak in the ceiling.
They place the stuff gently down on a creaky table. As they back up, they hear another creak and some cracking. They can feel their hands start to shake, and their breathing starts to get faster. They need out now.
With all the speed he could muster, he runs out of the room, navigating through the large house. He hears more cracking noises as he makes it to the door. He tries to open the door, but finds it difficult to do so.
Each time they struggle to open it, they can hear even louder cracking sounds. They're shaking even more, starting to feel nauseous. With one more tug, they finally open the door. However, it was too late.
Everything came tumbling down.
—
When Tollin's consciousness comes back, all he can feel is pain. He lets out a strained cry, tears streaming down his face as the cry makes the pain worse. He can't move, being pinned to the ground by something. His arms feel crushed, like someone took a hammer and broke every individual bone. And his legs… he can't even feel his legs.
They continue to sob loudly, each sob only making their body hurt worse. Their brother would be so disappointed if he saw them in this state. He would call them useless, scoff at them for not being able to take a small box to a place without screwing up.
Will anyone notice he's gone? And if so, would they care enough to look for him? To save him? He doesn't know. He really doesn't know. His head is pounding so bad, it hurts to even think.
They're going to die here, aren't they? They're going to die, crushed under an old building, because they were too stupid to notice the signs. This was all their fault.
He doesn't know how long it's been, but after a while his sobs start to quiet and he has no more tears left to cry. He's so tired… His eyes feel heavy.
Maybe it's okay, that they're gonna die. They're gonna see their sister again. That would be nice.
“Is anyone in there!? If anyone's in there, please, say something! Let us know!”
He can hear someone… but he's too tired to respond. It hurts too much to respond. He hears more yelling, but it all starts to fade away.
They close their eyes for the last time.
