Work Text:

I'm gonna become an actress.

Not because I hate dance, but because it's too much work with too little reward. And besides, I'm convinced Ms Bell hates me, and would rather not have me in her class. I'm doing her a favour!

Jack told me not to change my major. "You're the only friend I've got in Dance, now Carmen's leaving." he said, "Yeah, yeah, I've got Iris, but she's my girlfriend.". "But, you don't get it. Dance is just too hard for me. Acting seems like less pressure." I explained. "But-" Jack started. "-No buts, Jack. I'm changing my major. That's it. No more discussion." I told him firmly. And he didn't argue.

My first day in Drama was kinda weird. At least most of the kids in Drama seem nice. Especially this girl Serena Katz. She was the first to come up to me when I entered the Drama class. "Hey! I'm Serena. What's your name? I haven't seen you around much." she asked. "I'm Mabel." I said. "You transferred from Dance, didn't you?" Serena asked. I nodded. Then I heard a very obnoxious voice say "There's another chick joinin' Drama?!?! And she's from Dance?! Oh baby, this is gonna be great!" from the corner of the room. I turned around, and saw the guy who likes perving on Carmen. Joe Vegas. "Hey, mamacita, you new here?" he asked, walking towards me with a disgusting grin on his face. "I'm new to Drama, yes. I came from Dance." I explained, slowly stepping away from him. He suddenly pulled his arm around my waist. "You're Mabel, right? You're hot, girl." Joe said, and I noticed his eyes looked to my boobs. I slapped him. "You are one horny motherfucker." I snapped at him, before walking off.

The lesson itself was great. I honestly like Mr Myers way more than Ms Bell. It's nice not having your teacher yell at you to point your goddamn toes every ten seconds. And the stuff we did was fun. We played a few games, and then we discussed the school play, Romeo and Juliet. Serena is playing Juliet, and a guy named Nick Piazza is playing Romeo. It seems like those two have something romantic going on. Honestly, it makes me jealous.

"Oh my God, have you seen Mabel lately?" "Oh my God, yeah. She's gained so much weight since leaving Dance." "She's so ugly." "And she has no chance getting someone to fuck her. Ever." "Oh, come on, Sonia, let's be real. No-one who does Drama has any chance of that." "Mabel really let herself go. Worst decision, if you ask me."

I walked into the cafeteria, and saw my ex-friends from Dance, Sonia and Brittany, sitting together, and they were talking about me. They were talking absolute shit about me. And, of course, they were talking about my body. Since joining Drama, I've been getting more comfortable in my body, and I no longer think of myself as following "The Seafood Diet". I'm just eating what I want. But, of course, the minute I start to feel good about myself, fucking Brittany and Sonia of all people are talking about me behind my back.

I tried to ignore them, and I went to go sit with Nick and Serena. "How's Romeo and Juliet going? You guys learning your-" I started, before I realised that Serena was too busy playing with Nick's hair, and Nick was too busy reading something. They weren't listening to me. Goddammit, I miss having Carmen at school. She would never ignore me. I stared down at my food. Seafood diet. No, not that. I'm just doing what I want. Brittany and Sonia are right. No they're not! They're both absolute bitches. My brain was being so stupid. You're sad and lonely and single as fuck. Ok, that one's true. But who's gonna be able to love me?

That's how I ended up dating Joe Vegas.

He was actually genuinely nice to me. Maybe a little horny, but nice. He's like the only person who's ever told me I'm hot. Except maybe Carmen that one time I got really upset after Dance class, but I can't exactly remember if she called me hot. But Joe really loved me. He's such a flirt. He would call me his "li'l cutie" and he loves making out. And at least he didn't try to make out when I didn't want to, which I honestly thought he would. And he kept buying me chocolates. Which, I dunno, maybe that was a dig at my body image issues, or maybe he was just being sweet.

But then there was that one day I caught him eyeing some other girls, and a guy. And that day that he was being a little rough with the making out, and I had to tell him to stop because he was making me a little uncomfy. And that time he drunk-called me, saying he was gonna fuck Carmen and me at the same time.

Maybe he wasn't all that good.

One day, I finally decided to call Carmen.

[Mabel: Hey, Carmen. How are you going?]

[Carmen: Good. LA's pretty chill. How's PA?]

[Mabel: Great! I just changed my major to Drama. Best decision ever. And I've got myself a boyfriend.]

[Carmen: Damn, who?]

[Mabel: Joe Vegas.]

[Carmen: You have gotta be kidding me. Mabel, he's a fuckin' pervert. And a creep. And he's just weird. He's gonna cheat on you, you know that, right?]

[Mabel: I know. But he was so nice, and I was so desperate.]

[Carmen: Joe Vegas is NOT nice. He's a weirdo. And you deserve better. Like a girl.]

[Mabel: A girl? Actually, that doesn't sound bad, to be honest. Girls are honestly way more attractive than guys.]

[Carmen: I've got this friend in LA. Her name's Ashlee. I think you'd like her.]

[Mabel: For real? You'd be willing to give me her phone number?]

[Carmen: Absolutely, bitch. Now, go dump Joe's sorry ass. And I'll hook you up with Ashlee.]

[Mabel: You'd do that for me?]

[Carmen: Mabel, you're my friend. I'll definitely do this for you.]

[Mabel: Oh my God thank you Carmen you're the best.]

[Carmen: It's ok. You deserve it.]

And that's how I ended up dumping one Hoe-se Vegas and met the girl of my dreams, Ashlee Jones.
